Dandelion Lover

Chapter 20 - A New Secret

"Let's get even!" Vivian said with a hint of hatred in her voice. I gazed at her like she was mad but at the same time, I felt a need to agree with her. Even if Gray told me to let it pass, Ann and Rob both made a fool out of me and my pride was smashed to smithereens.

"I heard he wants to bring you down," Vivian told us and she soon switched her look towards Gray.

"That's funny," Gray's lips turned into a cold smile. "And how exactly does he plan on doing that?" He asked almost amused at the idea.

"I'm not sure yet, I still need to talk to some people, but knowing him it will surely be something underhanded." As she said that, Vivian had a strangely sad expression and her eyes were now laying on the old red carpet that was crudely placed at her feet.

"No need, I'll deal with it. Don't worry." Gray replied in a serious tone while his brows moved into a small scowl. I could feel a chill go all through me as I stared into the cold eyes before me, both Gray and Vivian were deep in thought and I stood there enraptured by how good both of them looked after a sleepless night.

A painful reminder of the situations I was in quickly hit me when Gray stood out to leave, his wedding ring shining proudly on his finger. I wondered then how his wife was, and that thought was similar to a cold shower in the middle of winter.

"I have to go, can you girls handle yourselves from here on?" Gray asked after reading a message. Then looked at me unsure of what he wanted to do.

"Yeah, we'll be fine," Vivian answered for us both and we were soon left alone in the small stuffy room. Vivian was still immersed in her own thoughts and I took this chance to take a quick shower after I faintly let her know of my intention.

The water was slightly cold but it helped me wake up from my hazy state. Feelings of annoyance tugged at my heart because of Gray. His back as he turned to leave the room made me feel lonely and sad. At the same time, I had a feeling of irritation clawing at my insides. Why was I feeling this way towards Gray I had no idea. I understood that he somehow got under my skin at some point while working together, but I knew he was married, he never hid it from me. I resented my d.e.s.i.r.e to throw away everything I ever thought was ethical and stick to him without any shame. But my upbringing forbade it and the reality of the situation was there looking at me straight in the eyes.

"Are you done?" Vivian asked when I returned to my room.

"Vivian... I want to do it..." I said in a low voice, I couldn't believe my own ears and apparently, Vivian was as shocked as I was.

"Do what?" She asked and a faint laughter escaped her lips.

"Get even." I simply responded. My tone put a damper on Vivian's amus.e.m.e.nt and she turned serious.

"I've had enough of being made a fool of. They obviously had something going on between them and still made me take center stage in their little play." Vivian looked at me with an understanding gaze and seeing the look of determination in my eyes she left out a long sigh before answering.

"It is about time for you to become more independent, now's a good of a moment as any." She replied and eyed me top to bottom. "Get dressed and let's get this show on the road." A chuckle made its way from her lips and before I knew it we were out of the strange motel and passing through some high-end boutiques I could only have dreamed of entering before.

"You know, Rob likes his women s.l.u.tty dressed rather than cute and with your usual outfits, you can't pull that off," Vivian mentioned while I looked around me amazed at all the different clothes. All of them were s.e.xy one-pieces or simply clothes that left little to the imagination, not really something I was a fan of.

"Try this one, and this, and those two..." Vivian threw several outfits my way and rushed me to the changing booth. Swapping among them was a challenge for my uncoordinated hands but I was determined to stop Rob from harming Gray and the company any more than he already did.

"Vivian, how come you know so many things about Rob?" The information she had was often more complete than mine and that made me question what I knew about the s.e.xy redhead. She took a while to respond but what she said turned my world upside down.

"We were married." She replied with a cold voice just when I was coming out of the changing booth. I stared at her with my mouth almost fully opened as I couldn't believe what I just heard. Seeing my shocked expression she gave me a sweet smile before checking out the dress I just changed into.

"No good, next." And she pushed me back into the booth. I obeyed her and while taking it off, I heard her continue in a lower voice.

"Rob has always been quite popular, it didn't last long for him to start playing around as he enjoys all the attention. I should have just let Luc fire him when he wanted to, but I was too proud for that. I insisted it didn't affect me in the slightest when he paraded all his conquests in front of me."

I was left speechless at this confession, I always thought Vivian was a strong and independent woman, and here she was admitting to suffering for the same reason I did but for her, it must have been a hundred times worse.

"I'm sorry." Was all I could say. My mind was in a turmoil same as my heart and I felt a sudden heaviness trying to take over my heart as darkness seemed to swallow me whole. I remembered Gray and his wife. Was I capable of being the other woman just to satisfy my d.e.s.i.r.es? Would I make someone else go through the same pain as Vivian? I couldn't see myself doing all that, but the attraction between me and Gray was obvious to both of us.

"It's fine, it helped me get where I am today so it's all good." She simply said with a shrug as I exited the changing both.

After a couple more dresses Vivian decided on a simple black dress with a built-in push-up bra that was barely covering my most important parts. After the dress, she had chosen some high heels to go with it and she paid for them herself. She admired my new outfit and nodded in acceptance.

"This will do for now, let's go get some well-deserved sleep and we'll discuss the rest tomorrow."

I took the bag with the new dress and shoes and soon enough I was back home, throwing everything aside and snuggling under the comfortable sheets. I fell asleep with the sad tone of Vivian ringing in my head and the look of doubt on Gray's face haunting me.
