Dandelion Lover

Chapter 5 - Melanie

Another day passed by, a day that was strangely short considering I didn't have that much work to do. Now that the project was underway and the tasks had been split, I had to start working on a design for their new website; however, inspiration just doesn't come when I want it to. I might as well take my time and enjoy a little break tonight.

All those business meetings and traveling made me tired without even realizing it. A good dinner and some coffee might do me good. Just as I was going through my plans for the evening, a key in the lock turned and the door opened with a small squeak.

"Welcome home Mell!" I said as I was just thinking of making dinner for two. "You're just in time, I have some free time and I wanna make some pasta, wanna join me?" I tried to soften my voice as I knew she could be pretty feisty when she was tired.

"I'm not hungry Luc." A deep and lascivious voice answered me. I liked the way my name just rolled on her tongue, it reminded me of how she once was such an innocent girl, following me to school and hanging with my friends.

How could I have resisted her when she tried so hard to make me hers. Unfortunately, these last few years I have been busy since founding my company and I wasn't able to spend a lot of time with her, but maybe we should go on a vacation for a week after this project is done. We could go back to St. Kitts where we went for our honeymoon. I was just thinking about proposing that when Melanie, my dear wife, appeared in front of me adjusting her glasses on top of her nose and looking straight at me.

"I could go for a cup of coffee if you're offering," she said while throwing me a small wink that took me by surprise. It had been a while since we just relaxed together at home.

"Sure, I was gonna make one for me as well, maybe we can watch a movie after." I offered, happy that I could relax in her company.

"Sorry dear, I still got work today." she simply replied with a cold tone that made me feel at a loss for words.

"Problems with the restaurant?" I asked trying to get on her good side as she seemed to be annoyed with me for some reason.

"Just a new chef is giving me headaches." She replied while flipping through some doc.u.ments over at the bar in the kitchen, while I was making the coffee.

"Want me to go beat him up?" I asked jokingly as I knew she liked my bad boy side from high school, although I didn't really mean it. Her reaction though made me wonder about that, as she flinched and looked at me with her sharp brown eyes. I thought I could see a hint of fright in them but it was just for a fraction before she returned to a cold stare.

"I can handle it." She muttered while glancing towards the espresso machine. In just a couple of minutes, we were both sitting at the bar drinking our coffee in silence. I watched Mell sip on her coffee while her eyes were scanning the papers in front of her.

She was not a tall woman but the fact that she always wore heels made her reach my height easily. Her hair was short and neatly arranged around her face, which together with the business suits she often wore made her look outstanding.

She was a natural brunette but a couple of months ago she had dyed her hair a pale shade of blonde and she had kept that for a while now. Not that I was complaining, I thought it looked great with her slightly darker skin that she maintained by going to the tan salon from time to time; she looked exotic.

Looking at her after a few days of being away from home made me wonder at just how much she had changed lately. It might be the fact that she worked that made her look different, but she had become more confident and now she was always busy running here and there to take care of various business that she was tasked with as manager of a chain of restaurants.

I was quite proud of her but I couldn't stop thinking of the young innocent girl she had once been.

Looking back on different memories from high school, I suddenly felt the scent of vanilla tugging at me and giving me a state of unexplained attraction, towards what I didn't know. I slowly got up from my seat and went over to Melanie.

Slowly resting my hands on her arms I leaned my head on her shoulder, my face glued to her cheeks and took a deep breath of her perfume. For some reason, I was expecting to feel the vanilla scent coming from her but instead, a fresh citrus fragrance invaded my senses, It wasn't bad and it suited her, but nevertheless, I found myself slightly disappointed at this.

"Did you change your perfume?" I asked still keeping my body close to her, breathing in the new scent which was strangely unfamiliar.

"Uhm..." she replied not really paying attention. Seeing that her thoughts were still far from turning towards me left me feeling uncomfortable. I started placing small kisses on the back of her neck while moving my whole body near to persuade her to turn around but she was still working without giving me a second glance.

In a last attempt to disturb her train of thoughts I grabbed her chin with my hand and turned her head to face me before placing a deep kiss on her pouting lips. It had been a while since I had kissed her like this because we were both too busy with work, leaving me exhausted most of the time, but now I was suddenly in the mood for more.

"I'm going to bed, you coming?" I asked, unclenching my hand and letting go of her lips, observing the eyes that were now looking back at me. However, to my dismay, her eyes had become unreadable and she turned her back to me.

"I still have work." were the only words that came out of her. The same words that made me want to simply grab her small body and carry her in the bedroom without asking for permission, but they were also the words that made me lose my appetite. I turned and headed off to bed without saying another word, leaving her to see to her own business as she wanted.
