Danmachi: Magus Rex

Today was another early day for Magnus as he got up and left for the dungeon. On the way he saw quite the commotion as people hurried in a certain direction.

Reaching the dungeon he was greeted by Albert

"Good Morning Albert-san, any idea why the town is in such a commotion today?"

"Good Morning, Why it's because of the Monster Feria hosted by the Ganesha Familia that's occurring today. They're mostly monsters tamers and they host this event to showcase their captured monsters. You should go check it out, it's held over at the large arena."

"It seems like an interesting event, I'll go and check it out"

'I'm more or less ahead of my goal with 500 in 3 days, I can afford this one day break I guess, I have been going into the dungeon from morning till night ever since I got here'

Making his way to the arena, Magnus was faced with some familiar faces.

"Magnus-san it's been a while" the blonde leader Jack walked up enthusiastically.

It was the Dian Cecht familia complete with Jack, Jill and Alex. Along with them were two others, a girl with long silver hair and purple eyes and an old man with grey hair.

"Indeed how have you guys been?"

"Perfectly A1, this here is our senpai Airmid Teasanare and our god Dian Cecht" Jack introduced the last two people.

'So that's a god, it's my first time seeing one up close, quite different than what I expected'

"I'm Magnus, It's a p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to make your acquaintance" he gave a polite bow which Airmid returned with a kind smile.

"Nonsense, you helped my kids so there's no need for formalities, I take it you're going to the monster feria?" The old man, Dian Cecht, gave a big smile and called out.

"That's correct sir, I had some free time so I decided to check it out"

"Wonderful, we were heading in the same direction so you're welcome to come with us"

Initially Magnus wanted to decline but with the pleading expression the trio had, he found it hard to refuse 'Besides I may be able to get more information regarding this event if I travel with someone experienced'

"I'll thankfully accept the offer"

On the way Magnus was pestered regarding his happenings by the curious trio as Airmid and Dian kept a close ear to the conversation

"So you managed to reach the 7th floor the day after you helped us out, as expected of Magnus-san" Jack exclaimed with a happy expression.

"Well yes but it was just a single floor, not much to be hyped up about"

"That's what you may think but most adventurers take more than a month before they're able to properly clear the 7th floor so I'd say it's quite the achievement" Jill chimed in.

"If you say so I guess" Magnus gave a casual shrug as they kept walking to the arena.

Passing through the entrance, they were able to get good seats thanks to Dian Cecht, 'it seems like medicinal familia have their own advantages' Magnus mused as he took a seat between Alex and Jack.

As they were waiting for the show to start a man walked up on stage. He was a muscular man wearing a red and yellow elephant mask over his face. He wore an orange sash that went over his right shoulder and wr.a.p.ed around his waist. A gold rimmed leather plate sat on his stomach, holding the garb together. He also sported white pants with dark brown under the knee boots - also with gold accents. He also had Gold jewelry to further cement the image of "show boat". His jewelry could be seen as a thick gold necklace and arm bands. He also wore gold rimmed gauntlets along with shaggy ash-brown hair

"That Ganesha, a show off as always" Magnus heard Dian comment on the man

'It seems like that's the god who hosts this events, the so called god of the masses. Indeed he seems different from Dian, more into showing off his wealth'

He started giving a speech regarding his own familia which seemed like some sort of advertis.e.m.e.nt than a speech and finally got to the part regarding the Feria.

It seemed like the event would start off with the Ganesha Familia members showing off their prized beasts after which they would bring in wild monsters that the familia members would then attempt to tame.

The final segment consisted of a small monster fight where volunteers would be allowed to fight with monsters matching their levels and then finally ending the show with what Ganesha claimed was 'The greatest spotlight of the show'

Overall it had been an interesting time. They showed off multiple tamed monsters ranging from the common goblin to Minotaurs and Lizardman. They also had trolls and some Harpies. The first part of the show was then ended by a group of singing mermaids.

For the second phase they brought wild mosnters such as a Bloodsaurus, Sirens and even a Green Dragon which they then tamed with various methods

"They may be show-offs but you have to admit they have the skills to show off" Dian made an off-hand comment near the end of the second phase

"Now then with the second phase, which of my children would like to enter the arena" he talked with a smile that said it wouldn't take no for an answer

"If it's ok with you Dian-san, could I participate in their place" Magnus asked in anticipation "I've been till the 7th floor and I feel I'm more than capable of a fight"

The trembling trio gave thankful expression towards Magnus as Dian considered this for a second

"Very well, you three should be thankful for this guy" he gave a large grin as he called one of the standing Ganesha familia members to get Magnus signed up.

"What is your battle potential sir?" the attendant asked the purple eyed boy

"I'm confident in anything as long as it's level 1" Magnus replied in a confident tone

"Understood" the attendant noted down that info and walked off

"Are you sure about this? Level 1 monsters can be strong if you underestimate them" Alex asked in a concerned tone

"I'm sure, I'm confident in taking on anything in the level 1 range, above that would be tricky"

After a while Ganesha announced for all volunteers to enter the back stage.

"""Good luck Magnus-san""" the trio saw him off

"Give me a good show boy" Dian gave him a grin as he walked off while Airmid just gave him an encouraging nod.

*Backstage*

The backstage was filled with different types of adventueres, ranging from level 1's to what Magnus felt to be equivilant to Level 5.

"Hello, you're Magnus aren't you?" A red haired boy in similar red robes walked up to Magnus "I'm Rador, a Level 2 from the Hecate familia, Master Irildor mentioned you."

"Ah it's nice to meet you, I take it you're taking on the level 2 category?"

"Of course, I'm going to be the ace of our familia in the future so I can't be seen backing off" he gave off a confident aura.

"What about you Magnus, I heard you aren't a part of a familia yet so which category did you go for?"

"I applied for the overall Level 1 category"

A surprised expression appeared on his face which was then replace with a knowing look "As expected of one Master Irildor recommended, I wish best of luck to you in the field of battle, now you must excuse me as I prepare for the upcoming battle, you can check out the match ups on the board over there" He gave one last nod and walked off to sit down and meditate.

Magnus walked over to the board where several competitors had their names written. Looking down at the level 1 category he soon found his name.
