Chapter 4 - The Ticket

I realized it was a smooth piece of this weird paper like substance. I reached down and grabbed the almost lime green object, when I pulled it out it slipped on to the floor and slid under my desk. Just wanting to get my day over with I told myself that I would get it tomorrow. I cleaned the dust out and saw a piece of gum over the sensor, seeing it was the easiest fix I thanked my lucky stars and removed it. I turned the bot on and it started it's job of keeping my lab clean. I left the bot to it's job then closed and locked up the workshop on my way out.

Poverty is a funny thing, people can sometimes see that a person is poor based on how they dress, but most of them hide it under a smile and nice clothes. But one glaring problem is that they don't own a car, or at least a majority of them don't, making public transportation still a thing in 2156.

I waited at the GravBus station for 10 minutes before I saw it peaking over the horizon, it slowed to a stop and the doors opened with the stairs floating down. I stepped up the stairs and after swiping my card over the Bus Bot's hand for the fare I took a seat right behind him in the first row. Knowing that this would be a long ride I turned my HOD on and went back to Iudus' site, my interest piqued on this new game.

"Welcome back folks to the place that has got all the news about Iudus, Game Heaven." said the neon dressed man seated at the desk on stage. "Tonight we have a special guest, Emanuel Sanders, the first publicly know winner of one of the coveted tickets."

"Thanks Josh, and I want to let everybody know that I already handed my ticket in to Iudus and that you can't buy it from me." Emanuel stated. "So, Emanuel, I have got to ask, what does it look like?" Josh asked, eyes shining with curiosity. "Well I have a picture of it if you could put it on screen please?" Emanuel asked. I almost fell out of my seat in shock when I realized that the ticket looked almost exactly like the thing I pulled out of the dust tank except his was yellow. "Wow it looks magnificent, so what did you ge..." the connection cut out when the GravBus was jostled all of a sudden. I finally started paying attention to my surroundings when I realized that the bus was malfunctioning and starting to drive all over the place. I started to freak out a little bit thinking that I was going to die, but then something hit me, I could fix this.

So with the speed of a practiced technician I ran up to the Bus Bot and yanked it's c.h.e.s.t panel open so I could see what was wrong. I couldn't find any problems with a first glance but when I looked closer I saw that a lot of the stuff was repaired haphazardly with no regard to safety codes. Knowing that I needed to find the break switch I pushed a lot of the wires out of the way to try to find the red switch which would be my salvation. I was jostled and shook throughout this entire ordeal which made it hard to focus, after a couple of seconds of frantic searching I finally found the right switch and pulled it down hard. With smoothness that made it seem like everything was fine the bus slowed to a crawl and finally stopped letting the terrified passengers off.

After almost 2 hours of getting questioned by the police I was finally released, with a small reward for my heroic efforts. They let a cop car drive me home which was a welcome respite from the uncomfortable and stinky buses. After the cop dropped me off I walked up to my apartment and made my self a cup of this instant oatmeal egg concoction which was kind of bland. I took a long shower to calm my frazzled nerves, realizing that I could have died if the bus ran into a building. When I finally went to bed at around 11:45pm I felt like I forgot something important but for the life of me I couldn't remember what it was.
