Dawn: Another World, Another Fight, Another Clam

Chapter 13 - Horrors of the Otherworld

The 50 of them faced off against the goblins in a silent equilibrium. The fear slowly crept up on them like a spider.

Kwrk!?

Kaak!!

Suddenly the goblins looked at them with their light green pupiless eyes. They screamed and rushed at them weapons in hand. A female student who happened to be at the back or front from the goblins perspective was first.

"No stop! Don't come any closer!"

"I said stop!"

She screamed at them but they ignored her pleas. And viciously grabbed her and hacked away at her fleshly body.

Ahhh!!!

She screamed nonstop in pain until her cries died down. In that moment, it was clear to all of them, kill or be killed. They didn't know what to do in terms of technique, only a select few did martial arts classes privately and most of them, to their regret didn't take it seriously.

Like amateurs they swung around the daggers chaotically as the goblins jumped on them and fought viciously to kill.

"Everyone be calm!"

"We must band together to survive, we are vastly out numbered! Everyone form a circle with your backs to each other."

They all looked at Minerva, as the sole a.d.u.l.t they had an unfounded belief in her. They looked at the vicious looking monsters and made a circle with their backs to the one side of the barrier.

The stats present when they touched their left ears, the dead people, the daggers in hand, the the small fairy, the goblins staring them down, this situation... all made it clear, this was happening. It was real.

"Arghh! Damnit! Let's Fight!"

One student shouted seemingly ready to throw himself at the goblins, seeing this Minerva took charge as the only a.d.u.l.t present.

"Yes, but we should stay close together and most of all stay calm. Use your daggers to fight. Let's go!"

She was scared as well but they were counting on her as the only a.d.u.l.t, she couldn't falter here. She shouted and stabbed at a goblin who stabbed at her in response, she barely dodged suffering a gash on her t.h.i.g.h before slamming the dagger deep in it's skull.

She breathed haphazardly," See they can die, now stick close and fight!"

Ahhhhhhh!!!!

They shouted and banded together, attacking the goblins.

******************

A battlefield.

A war ground.

A cemetery.

The bodies decorated with wounds and rusted dull weapons, the scent of fresh flesh yet to rot, the bodily fluids of those scared shitless who pissed themselves and those scared to the extent of having an unpleasant odour at their rear regions.

This was Hell to them.

She touched her ear, after gazing at the dead goblins and her dead students who piercingly looked at her soul, blaming her for leading them to death, her limbs weakened with guilt.

She knew it had to be done but that didn't change that they died following her. 42 of them died. Yes, there was mere 8 remaining excluding the 50 escapees.

If they didn't gain runes after killing, none of them would have survived. This was the case for most tutorial areas. The 50 who ran were eventually killed by monsters with a select few surviving to become strong, the survivors of the goblin fight we're the true beginner adventurers.

[Minerva Lightwood]

Strength: 8.7

Stamina: 7.9

Agility: 10.1

Perception: 10.3

She had no idea what to make of her stats, yes she got stronger but she was aware 10 was for the average human as the fairy said, however they all were below average as teenagers including females.

Her initial stats were still below 10 but she felt comprehensively stronger.

She thought strength was the most important and was sad at it's value but this was due to her ignorance, it was usually like this at the first stage where they knew nothing.

You couldn't compare stats in pairs but strength and stamina, agility and perception had a close relationship with each other.

Without enough stamina then no matter how much strength you have you won't be able to use it efficiently and no matter how high your stamina was, if your strength was low then it was just wasted talent.

If one were to move properly in the sped up time from agility they needed to have high perception and it wouldn't matter how high your perception was if your body didn't follow.

The best solution was keeping all the stats around the same number. She had no way of knowing this at this early stage so she was preoccupied with the subconscious thought to get stronger and equating the strength rune to that.

"Wow, you didn't do all that bad considering the circ.u.mstances, we'll you should understand the way now, Ok go! Fighting!"

The fairy appeared and cutely cheered but it's demon like behaviour eradicated any thoughts of it being cute. The survivors murmured among themselves, hostility brewing with the 7 who fought and got stronger, the adrenaline was still pumping and looking for a target.

Jake, who was one of 7, an American rich kid, looked malicious and ready to fight, looking at the 50. He was impulsive and didn't realize that they could crush him as a group, as he wasn't superhuman quite yet.

Tch.

'Those f**kers, they escaped while we did all the hard work. I ought to-!'

"O.k. Everyone gather round!"

"First of all, it's understandable that the 50 who escaped did so, as we all attempted to do the same thing, so let's not hold any grudges."

'Those little disgusting runts.... sigh...I'm the a.d.u.l.t here, calm. calm. Be the a.d.u.l.t. Forgive and don't forget.'

Minerva pointed to the root of the most severe problem and nipped it in the bud. She was the sole a.d.u.l.t and she was also at the forefront of the fighting so they all felt assured believing in her. Even Jake didn't want to argue as not only was she an a.d.u.l.t but she was beautiful and a fighter.

Ironically, they who were usually unruly to a.d.u.l.ts confided in one like any other child when push came to shove.

"Second of all, we are in a strange environment, Our first priority is secure food and water, then find out where the Hell this Otherworld is!"

They all nodded at that, it was the right thing to do in their situation. Seeing their behaviour, Minerva grew more confident in that what she was doing was right, her shoulders were heavy with the burden of responsibility but that was her job as an a.d.u.l.t, her cousin already had a son and was teaching him values. Who was she to complain.

They grouped together and began to slowly search the area, finding only monsters, nothing edible at all, the first day ended with no findings at all, only something scary that gazed down at them.

The moon opened it's eye, gazing down at them, it found them with no food to erase, so all it did was give them a dress of moonlight that revealed their positions, the only parties involved were them and the monsters, they were a big group and this actually made it easier to hunt each set of monsters.

It was only after the Third day, that adrenaline stopped working as much and hunger kicked in, despite her warnings some students ate monsters and starting convulsing in pain from the stomach.

This furthered their resolve to follow her, though it was common sense not to eat strange things, everyone was mentally and physically exhausted right now.

"Gahhh Gabriella! No! Don't die!"

"Ahhh!"

A beautiful red head who looked European was pierced by a kobold. One of the stronger mobs of the tutorial area, fortunately for them they weren't the 3-5 metre kobolds in games. But the smaller versions, but they were still difficult do deal with, these dog like creatures had a keen sense of smell and night vision.

The moon also targeted only humans despite their dismay, after all the monsters viewed them as their food, if it was fair treatment they'd disappear, their initial assumptions were rooted out and they suffered greatly against these beasts.

At this moment, Gabriela a female student who was an athlete went to pee by herself and was ambushed and killed. Her friend Isabella rushed to mourn her, trying to stop her from dying by screaming no.

Jake looked on coldly,

'Dumb bitch. It's her own fault going off on her own, being shy here will get you killed. I won't follow after her mistakes. Tch. Look at that bitch wailing. She's dead. Accept it.'

'But..... I admit she had quite the hot body, but I've f*cked a lot of bitches with similar bodies so it's not all that a loss.'

Jake was adapting to this world at a quick pace, this was great to him, he never wanted to go to school to learn to take over his father's company anyway, that was why he was shipped to a boarding school in Japan.

He cursed the old man but now he thanked him for this opportunity.

The fourth day arrived with them barely holding their hunger. No one thought of the absurd idea of a convenience store underground at a train station, still possessing food.

<Ah. Ah. Everybody? Can you hear me? Please gather to the starting point this moment please>

The fairy spoke from an unseen location.

They all became alert to danger.

"Should we go? Miss Lightwood"

"Of course not, we shouldn't listen to that crazy thing."

Some students started debating at their course of action.

"No. We should go. It's not like we are I'm control here. It will find a way even if we resist. Let's go"

"...If you say so.."

They weren't really willing but what she said was quite plausible. Minerva touched her ear I'm preparation for what the.fairy was planning.

[Minerva Lightwood]

Strength: 21.1

Stamina: 21.2

Agility: 16.1

Perception: 16.6

Mana: 12.3

<Skills>

Blood recovery: 1.5%

Blood recovery was a skill that increased stamina and health recovery by a certain amount, which was helpful when she had nightwatch to not fall asleep. She hadn't completely understood its uses as of yet.

They walked to the starting area.

"Greetings! Everybody! I'm here today with two very very good news!"

The fairy, who had shouted loudly, watched them as it smiled.

"The first good news is that if you hold onto 72 more hours then you can get out of here!"

"…"

They had heard the news but didn't really make a happy expression.

Because it sounded like that even if they had left this place, the place they will go to wouldn't really be safe.

No, since this was the tutorial it was obvious that they were going to a more dangerous location.

The fairy laughed at their gloom.

"I think I know what you're feeling. But when you hear the next story you will think that this is a very good news"

And as they stared at the fairy, it flicked its fingers.

Kugugugugugu

Something rapidly shot up from the small movements of the hand.

A structure almost the size of a small building.

'…Altar?'

The people made a weird expression as they looked at the new building

It definitely had a similar form to the altars at the ancient aztec grounds.

The fairy laughed as it looked at their group

"It's a magical altar. There lives a very cute pet inside."

Then the altar shone bluish as it turned transparent.

The altar was an empty box-like structure unlike its outside appearance.

And they gulped as they saw the creature within it.

Krrrrrr…

Something that resembled the Alien.

If you discard the fact that the size of it was 15m.

The thing inside the altar was scratching the wall of the altar as if it was pissed at something.

An even more frightening thing was that every time it scratched the wall, parts of it would fall apart as it made grinding sounds.

"Can you see it? Its called <Carnivorous Beast>. But our friend here is very hungry right now. Since there's nothing to eat in there it wants to come out of there right now. We starved it for a whole day for this."

"…"

"As you can see the Altar is very good in terms of looks but it isn't really useful. It will probably get destroyed soon. Since its a structure that is faithful it's design."

At these words the people made a frightened expression.

Everyone knew.

That the area they were in currently was limited.

If that altar fell then they would all get eaten.

Even if they were to hide, the beast will eat them alive as it chased them one by one at night.

The people then realized why the fairy said the earlier news was a good news.

Because in other words, after 72 hours they didn't have to be in the same space as the monster.

'Wait it said there were two good news before'

The fairy smiled as it spoke.

"I said there were 2 good news before right? Thankfully there is a way to make him fall asleep. If he falls asleep then he would naturally stop scratching the wall to come out right?"

But nobody asked a question.

Since it had shown what happened to someone who questioned it before.

As there were no reactions, the fairy made a dejected expression for a while then spoke again.

"The answer is very simple. Five a day."

"…?"

"If you give him five people as food then he would fall asleep. Since its 72 hours you would need to give him food three times right?"

Everyone clenched their teeth at these words.

'What the f.u.c.k. The number of people who are still surviving is only around 30…'

It meant that only if they use half of the people they had now then that beast wouldn't escape.

'Damn. Then it's just better to fight'

As someone had this thought in their mind, the fairy spoke again.

"The choice is yours. Heehee. Give or not give. But I'll show you this in order to help you decide"

And then the fairy played a short clip in people's heads.

"These were people who decided to fight it together. From the tutorials before"

The people who had seen this made an extremely frightened expression.

The beast that was released was basically causing a massacre.

Ruthlessly ripping and smashing.

And the beast that had escaped didn't just stop after eating five.

The beast that had came outside devoured the humans in a craze.

They had fought with combined strength but every time it ate somebody its health rose and the injuries on its body healed.

Almost 70 people had charged it but they were all massacred and the ones who ran away were later eaten.

The beast which had eaten everybody was left alone as if nothing happened.

"…"

Everyone realized what kind of decision they had to make after the clip finished.

One of the students who didn't fight the goblins, who had seen the clip asked whilst clenching her teeth.

"How do we choose!? The people to go in!"

Then the fairy answered with a strange expression

"Why are you asking me that?"

"…"

"Pulling out of a hat, f.o.r.c.i.b.l.y chucking them in, figure it out yourselves. You just need to put them in while they're alive. No dead bodies"

"…"

The fairy which had emphasized <chucking> smiled as it spoke for the last time.

"By the way you should decide within an hour. If you put in a sacrifice then you will be safe for 24 hours. And then if you put in more in the next hour after that you will be safe again. Then be strong for the remaining 72 hours. Bye!"

And then the fairy disappeared just like that.

The starting of her first big hurdle as leader began. Minerva had cold sweat on her neck. She just barely unified all of the as one. Now she had to deal with this.

She didn't want to make the decision, she wanted someone else to do it. But she took up the mantle as leader. She must choose all fifteen now and put five in first and wait to put in the others, that was the logical choice.

"Damn it!!!!"

She screamed in frustration while the teens uneasily stared at each other. Their numbers dropped to 30 yesterday. The teens were fragile and mostly unfit, without street smarts and survivability, it was a miracle this much survived. Nonetheless, all those deaths, she personally witnessed them, and while she wasn't the one who killed them.

It sure felt like it. Now, she had to personally throw half of the to the pits, to that creature. Like some sort of sick joke. There were exactly 15 boys and girls remaining.

Their was a visible difference between them, people fought for a lot less. Slave rebellions where people fought for skin color were prominent, they girls who would usually instinctually find a man to take care of them, grouped together in faith.

It was a known fact, female friendship was stronger than male friendship numerically speaking, they had no problem bawling their hearts out and making intimate jokes, men were hardasses, in a group there was a smaller trio or duo who were the true friends who knew each other's dirty secrets. The others weren't even close.

This haphazard alliance was formed in an instance.

Su lin glanced at Rebecca upon the fairy starting a fire, they recalled the scene they stumbled on one night ago.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The moon was menacingly turning everyone into a beacon but they had gotten used to it a bit.
"Hey let's do a little scouting, I think I saw some light over there and a heard few sounds."
Su lin spoke to her friend as she got up.
"Are you sure? It isn't all that safe....."
"Stop being a big wuss girl , let's go, it's only a little scouting."
Showing off her adventurous spirit that had resurfaced from getting used to the fear and strained situation of the Otherworld , she boldly stepped out without looking back, causing Rebecca to sigh and follow.
They saw quite the scene.
"Ahh ah ah ugh mhm ugh mhm, yea baby... go.. ugh! mhm!"
A boy Toyotomi from their class was doing the unspeakable with his partner, the right hand. Unlike a hentai the situation didn't go- Oh we're pent up too, let's have a threesome- no, they were actually quite disgusted by the sight.
"Ugh how repulsive."
"I know right."
"Let's go, it's hurting my eyes"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Back in the present,

Su lin and Rebecca two BFFs started the verbal war, "I think it's clear you men should go, do the gentlemanly gesture."

Jake, the firecracker immediately retorted," We should gently give away our lives huh, I'll tell you what."
