Chapter 22: Mysterious Living Creature

He had walked along this street many times over and was very familiar with it. However, there was an additional novelty to it right now. The entire world seemed to have become a lot more colorful.

He arrived at that dilapidated building again.

But he stopped in his footsteps, hesitating for a little. While other passersby didn’t notice, he walked toward it in a flash.

Very soon, he came to the space channel and entered the Otherworld once again.

Breathing in the viscous air here, there seemed to be a wave of power coming to live in his body. A familiar feeling grew.

He looked at his attributes panel. The ‘elementary recovery’ had once again changed to ‘natural recovery’.

It was already afternoon in the Otherworld, about 2 p.m. in Earth time when the sun was blazing hot.

He walked a few steps and got accustomed to the gravity here before practicing the Thirty-six Stances of Body Training a few times to move his body.

Under three times the usual gravity, the training took a lot more effort. Every action would deplete a tremendous amount of physical strength.

Thankfully, he wasn’t the same as he was in the past. Amongst all of his attributes, his physical strength and constitution was the highest.

He only felt a little tired after having practiced five times.

However, he didn’t dare to deplete too much strength here and quickly stopped. He picked up the wooden rod he had tossed away yesterday and continued to explore this island.

Although he had looked around roughly yesterday and found out that this island wasn’t dangerous, he didn’t dare to let down his guard.

The Otherworld was different from Earth.

Although the material elements in the Otherworld were similar to Earth, there was an additional mysterious force field here. The barbarians referred to it as the force of nature or origin force.

It was omnipresent, penetrating deep into every single atom or even into an even more microscopic structure.

It could obstruct electron movements tremendously, resulting in it being very hard for atoms to lose or gain electrons. To put it simply, any chemical reactions would become very slow, making it very hard to even ignite a fire here.

In theory, a world like this would definitely be a dead world. No living creatures would be able to survive.

On the contrary, the Otherworld was filled with vitality.

Based on scientists’ most common explanation, this mysterious force field was likely to be interfered with by lifeforms. From the lowest level microscopic living creatures to the highest level intelligent living creatures, all of them possessed lively biochemical reactions.

Even after their deaths, their souls could live on independently, not dissipating even after a very long time had passed.

Ghosts, spirits, and the more terrifying nature spirits were just legends on Earth. However, they really did exist in this world and could be seen everywhere.

In such an environment, the living creatures here—not just animals, but many plants as well—possessed individual consciousness or even intelligence. They might even possess the ability to move.

Chen Shouyi held onto the wooden rod and carefully climbed up to the top of the mountain.

This was a desolate island. Other than wild plants and flowers, there were only strangely shaped reefs. There wasn’t even a single tree around. He suspected that this island had just floated up to the surface of the sea.

It didn’t take long for him to reach the peak of the mountain.

The sea breeze blew, causing his hair to flutter around. The surroundings were just an endless stretch of sea, and it felt very refreshing.

Chen Shouyi couldn’t help but let out a long howl to vent out his excitement.

He only came down from the mountain after quite a while, arriving at the beach once again.

The tides kept on washing onto the shores. A few crustaceans crawled quickly on the beach, and he could occasionally see colorful shells emitting brilliant colors under the sunlight.

He was immediately drawn by the shells’ colors. Compared to the shells on Earth, not only did the shells here had stranger shapes, even their colors were a lot brighter and colorful.

He had always been very interested in things from the Otherworld. He planned on bringing one back to put in his bedroom as a decor piece.

If Chen Xingyue were to see it, she’d probably be very jealous.

He carefully looked for one, planning on choosing the most beautiful one of them all.

At this moment, his eyes suddenly lit up.

It was a palm-sized shell lying on a huge boulder that was over one meter away from the sea. Under the sunlight, it emitted a colorful glow. It seemed to have some kind of misty colors, causing it to stand out amongst all the other shells.

Moreover, the shell was half-opened, and the surroundings were relatively dry. It was clearly not a living item.

Chen Shouyi was still instinctively wary of the living creatures here. Since it was dead, then he wouldn’t have any mental burdens.

He quickly walked over, put out his hand, and picked it up from the huge boulder.

However, before he could assess it in detail, an accident happened.

The shell suddenly opened up, and a small figure floated up in midair, an inch over the shell. She started to move her hands and feet around, appearing very coquettish amidst the flashing light.

Chen Shouyi was so shocked by this sudden abnormality that his eyes opened wide and he almost threw the shell out.

However, he quickly realized that this mysterious living creature seemed to not pose any threat to him.

She broke away from the shell, floating in midair. Light spots glimmered around in the surroundings, making her appear quite mysterious and unfathomable. However, she was really too small, about the size of one of Chen Shouyi’s fingers. He couldn’t feel any threat coming from her.

Chen Shouyi suppressed the terror in his heart and carefully assessed this mysterious living creature. She shared a similar appearance and shape as a female human and was completely naked.

He also slowly understood that her strange actions seemed to be her dancing.

“What is going on here? Did she think she can scare me off by putting up a farce like this?”

Out of curiosity, he touched her gently with a finger. The girl from the shell was really powerless and immediately fell back into the shell from the impact. She shrank up in horror and started to break into tears.

However, Chen Shouyi didn’t hold much pity toward other lifeforms.

“This should also be the first time humans discovered a living creature like this. If I were to post a video of it online, it might cause a huge commotion.” An idea suddenly popped up in his mind as he looked at the crying girl.

However, this was merely a fleeting thought that he immediately dismissed.

The moment he exposed this lifeform on the Internet, the space channel would also be completely exposed after the investigations had been conducted.

He hadn’t thought through it carefully to see if he should report the existence of this space channel or not.

He decided to continue to monitor this island for a little longer. If it was really dangerous, then he’d report it immediately. If there weren’t any danger, then his decision would be to drag things out indefinitely.

After all, this space channel probably hadn’t just existed for one or two days. If there was really some kind of risk, they’d have appeared a long time ago and not wait until now.

At this moment, the girl’s expression was unsettled. Suddenly, as if she had come to some kind of decision, she secretly clenched her teeth, flying up from the shell and into the distance while that “giant” wasn’t paying attention.

A fine trail of beautiful light fragments dragged on behind her as she put in all her effort and flew toward the sea.

However, she hadn’t even flown for half a meter when she felt that the space above her head had turned dark. Then, strong winds blew, and her body was grabbed by a huge hand.

“Ahh!” A sharp, despairing scream rang out, and the girl was so scared that her expression became distorted.

Her scream was like the buzz from a tuning fork, causing Chen Shouyi’s ears to feel a little itchy from the tremors.

Because of that, he stuffed this mysterious girl back into the beautiful shell and closed it tightly. The ceaseless screams immediately became muffled and drawn out.

Chen Shouyi was in quite a good mood. Capturing this mysterious living creature perked his interest immensely.

He wasn’t planning on staying at the beach, so he returned to the space channel’s entrance.

At this moment, he suddenly realized that the shell girl was no longer moving. A few minutes ago, he could still sense the tremors from her fierce beating against the shell, but now, there was nothing at all.

“She can’t have been suffocated to death, right?” He swung the shell lightly.

However, other than a bit of rolling inside, there weren’t any other reactions.

He quickly opened a slit in the shell and realized that the shell girl was really unconscious. Her pale face was tear stricken, and there was still terror on it.

Thankfully, Chen Shouyi could see that her chest was still undulating slightly. This made him heave a sigh of relief.

Chen Shouyi stroked his chin and thought.

“It seems that I should change to another method of confinement!”

He saw the grass on the ground from the corners of his eyes, and an idea came to him.

He quickly found a strong vine from the ground and tugged off the top layer, then rolled it up into a thin and long rope. Chen Shouyi grabbed onto it with both hands and pulled hard. He realized that it was quite sturdy, and that even when he used all of his strength, he couldn’t break it.

He then raised one of the shell girl’s feet.

He took a curious glance between her legs and was instantly stunned, his face flushing red.

“To think… to think that it’s exactly the same as a woman’s!”

His heart palpitated fiercely, and he quickly turned his gaze away, trying hard not to pay attention to that area. It was only until he had tied up one of her feet with the thin rope that he finally heaved a sigh of relief.

Although he had sneakily watched quite several ‘video clips’ in real life, it was his first time to see this in reality.

Thankfully, the shell girl was too small, and only the first glance had a huge impact. He quickly calmed down.

He put the shell girl on his hand, occasionally poking her body with his finger.

It didn’t take long before she finally woke up.

She groggily opened her eyes and stretched herself, as if she still hadn’t made sense of the situation. It was until she saw a pair of huge eyes.

She screamed once again, flying out, attempting to escape.

It was a pity that before she could fly for too far, a rope had pulled her back.

This made him recall the sparrow that his father had caught for him when he was young. However, the sparrow didn’t survive for long and died after a few days.

The girl fell limp onto the ground, appearing to be in despair as tears flowed out of her eyes. After a while, she started to say something. Her tone was occasionally agitated and enraged while being pitiful at other times. However, her voice was too soft, like that of a mosquito or a fly.

Chen Shouyi turned his head, wanting to listen a little clearer.

At the next moment, the girl spat out at him.
