DC- New Age

Chapter 9 - Glurg gulug glug?

"This is not right!" a man in wheel chair frowned as he read what seemed to be a piece of news and suddenly disappearde, only to appear almost instantaneously back on the wheelchair.

Infact, one would not even be able to make out that anything happened, except for the fact that his hair was now a bit ruffled. Almost like one's hair would be when they remove their helmet after having gone for a bike ride.

"Now, it should be alright!" almost at the same time that he said this the news changed its contents to something else. Seing this result, the man wheeled himself out of the room.

Meanwhile, elsewhere....

"Glurg gulug glug" (Mc: "what the actual f.u.c.k!") Blitz flailed around when he woke up, to find that he was now underwater and who knows how deep. To make things worse, he doesn't know how to f.u.c.k.i.n.g swim.

Blitz continued to sink until his surroundings became dark and he lost consciousness due to lack of oxygen and consumption of water when he could no longer hold his breath.

"Ow!" Barry rubbed his head as he came out of the van, somehow having explained the situation to the laundry man, without alarming him.

"Oh by the way" Barry called out to the laundry man.

"Yes?"

"where's the other man?" asked barry

"which other man?" the laundry dude asked barry equally confused

"the guy who was...nah never mind" Barry shrugged it off thinking he was not seeing things clearly due to his high speed travel. Little did Barry realize that what was clouded were not his senses but his judgment due to the excitment and increased heartrate he is experiencing currently. As had it happened any other day, he would have cross verified his suspicions with a cctv camera before deleteing it to check for accidental damage caused by him and also to prevent the footage of him having powers being leaked out. However, he had done neither in his current state of excitement.

Blitz opened his eyes and flailed when he saw that he was in deep, pitch black waters. However, he soon calmed down when he saw that he could now breathe underwater. Hell, even the pressure was bearable and felt normal.

That's when he realized "I f.u.c.k.i.n.g evolved!". Yes, the process which takes years of death and adaptation was over in a few hours due to Blitz's unending death, revival and regeneration. Where each cell retained the cause of death and slowly but steadily evolved over time till he could now survive comfortably under the once unbearable conditions.

"It's still dark though" Blitz realized that due to him being unconcious most of the time, his vision was yet to evolve to see in the dark. Hence to test it out, he just sat down, cross legged, trying to feel all the new things of his body. After 4 minutes, he suddenly felt a tingling sensation on his neck. When he touched it, he realized his gills were on his neck, thus allowing him to breathe, however they were extremely tiny and more like multiple small holes rather than slits.

Also, he somehow knew that even though he was now breathing in water, he was able to walk on land without problems and would be indistinguishable from other humans, due to his cells containing memory of his life spent on top till now.

Suddenly he felt alarmed, that was when he realized, the tingling of the gills were a signal "Danger!" he shouted and jumped out of the way. The next instant, he was pushed by a torrent of water and a vague figure of something gigantic. The gills were tingling due to the strong watter currents and pressure caused when the predator rushed towards him, thus warning him of the incoming danger.

Taking advantage of this, he was able to dodge the aquatic animal everytime by a hair's breadth, his movements becoming smoother and easier over time.

After almost 30 minutes of dodge and run, Blitz could now make out how the fish looked, well, he wished he couldn't.

Blitz was unable to even take a second look at his pursuer. It was a blue bodied (or maybe not, but seemed like it to Blitz in these deep waters) humanoid monster with the eyeless head of a piranha. A sharp fin being present on its head and both of its arms. There were also small random fluroscent dots, which were not visible before, spread on its body. The creature opened its mouth, revealing sharp teeth, almost as long as Blitz's arm. This scared the shit out of Blitz, who started rising up towards the surface. Blitz would have been shocked to learn that he could now swim, had it not been for the atrocity behind him. Blitz swam even faster, realizing that the creature was still on his trail. Within a few minutes, Blitz could now see an island, which he sped to. The creature, though faster, couldn't catch Blitz as he would dodge everytime it lunged at him or zigzagged his way, thus slowing it down while he continued to swim up. Blitz did recieve a few bone deep bites and scratches, but they closed and healed within seconds, his blood regenrating faster than being consumed by the creature. As Blitz neared the surface, the more uneasy he felt. He also felt a stinging pain a bit above his stomach area. However, fearing for his life, he washed ashore and got up to run, however, he fell down the very next instant, clutching his throat and lungs.

"It burns!" The high concentration of oxygen as compared to before and the sudden change in pressure caused him severe headaches, internal hemorraging, formation of nitrogen bubbles and cracking of his skin. While he was fallen on the ground, cluclthing himself in pain, the creature rose out of the water and walked towards him. On noticing that Blitz was immobilized, it pounced on him with its claws outstretched and mouth open wide.
