Chapter 10: Moonlight Saber

POSTED ON MARCH 4, 2023 BY TIBETANTERRIER

The sharp broken cane pierced the monster’s brain, erasing all its vitality. However, even so, the inertia of its pounce remained.

Its massive body came like a cannonball, knocking Lin Qiye, who was holding the broken cane, to the ground violently.

In the end, Lin Qiye could kill this monster purely by relying on his superb dynamic vision and seraph’s supernatural power. However, the strength of his body was not boosted. This monster weighed at least two hundred kilograms, and he could not get out of it quickly.

Worse still, Lin Qiye seemed to have exhausted his strength after activating the seraph’s might. He could not exert any power as the dizziness struck him.

However, at this moment, the second monster lurking on the other side made a move.

This predator, who secretly hid in the distance, finally showed its ferocious fangs!

Its limbs ran at a fast pace, darting under the flickering streetlights, casting shadows that lingered like ghostly apparitions with a long scarlet tongue twisting in an eerie manner.

Lin Qiye could see its movements clearly. However, he had no way to dodge it in the current state. He could only watch the dense fangs zooming rapidly in front of his eyes!

The moment when the monster was only two meters away from Lin Qiye, Lin Qiye’s pupils suddenly shrank!

In his perception range, an object faster than the monster was rapidly approaching!

That seems to be a person.

It is a real person.

Swish—!

Lin Qiye could only see a fuzzy figure in front of his eyes, and a figure fell from the night sky. He landed firmly on the ground, and the wind carried by the momentum lifted the dark red cloak, revealing the side face of a middle-aged man.

He had an average appearance, just like the uncle who could be found everywhere on the roadside. People would subconsciously ignore his existence.

However, the murderous intent blooming in his eyes was as dazzling as a shining sword!

He squatted halfway, his eyes fixed on the monster less than one meter away, and his right hand firmly held the saber handle behind him.

“Cheng—!“

A crisp ringing sound echoed from the sheath, and the light blue blade reflected the dim moonlight. It slashed forward silently, breaking through the stale air!

It was a straight saber [1] without anything fancy!

The saber blade delivered a crescent slash and collided with the monster’s sharp claws, invoking a series of sparks.

Zhao Kongcheng let out a low growl. All his muscles tensed, and he took half a step forward!

The monster, no smaller than a brown bear, was forced back a couple of steps!

Lin Qiye’s eyes were full of disbelief. He had fought this monster before and knew how terrifying its might was. However, this man in front of him actually push it back?

Who is he?

After Zhao Kongcheng pushed the monster back a couple of steps, he advanced in a unique manner, sticking to the monster’s body closely. Then, he slashed the saber in his hand continuously, leaving a hideous cut on the monster’s body!

The monster screamed, staring into Zhao Kongcheng’s eyes viciously. Then, it raised its slender spear-like forelimbs, trying to kill the hateful human in front of it.

However, two blade lights flickered, and its forelimbs were cut off directly!

Before the monster screamed, Zhao Kongcheng’s eyes burst out with a cold light, and the saber in his hand swung at the monster’s neck like lightning!

The light blue blade cut through the monster’s flesh easily. The next moment, the monster’s head was flung to the sky.

Then, it rolled to the ground.

“Ka—!“

The saber was put back in its sheath. The dark red cloak was covered with the monster’s blood. However, since the blood was too similar in color to the cloak, the bloodstains were hard to notice without looking intently at it.

Without even looking at the monster’s corpse on the ground, Zhao Kongcheng unhurriedly took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, took a deep breath, and took out the walkie-talkie.

“I have cleared the two escaped Ghost-faced Creatures. Get the logistics team to clean up the area.”

After speaking, he put away the walkie-talkie and walked straight to Lin Qiye, who just broke free.

Lin Qiye stared at the man while the man looked back at him quietly.

Under the night, beside the pool of blood, the two men just silently stared at each other.

After a long time, Zhao Kongcheng finally could not bear it anymore and spoke first, “Don’t I look pretty cool just now?”

Lin Qiye: …

Lin Qiye stared into his eyes for a moment and found that he was serious, so he could only whisper, “Ya, it’s pretty cool.”

“Right…” Zhao Kongcheng chuckled, “Do you want to be as cool as me?”

“No.”

“…” Zhao Kongcheng’s mouth twitched slightly, “Why?”

“It’s easy to die.” Lin Qiye’s expression was solemn.

Zhao Kongcheng was at a loss for words for a while, “But you just saw that you have supernatural powers that ordinary people dream of. Don’t you want to be a superhero like in the movie?”

“You don’t want that?”

“…Because it’s easy to die?”

“Yes.”

Zhao Kongcheng rubbed the corners of his eyes. The young man seemed challenging to talk to, but he was thrown into this mess and had such great power.

“Well, this is not a place to talk. Let’s change to another place, and we can have a good chat.” Zhao Kongcheng thought for a while and said, “By the way, my name is Zhao Kongcheng, and I’m not a bad person.”

“Lin Qiye.” Lin Qiye blinked and nodded obediently, “I believe you. Could you wait for me here? I will get my school bag. My study materials are still inside.”

“Go ahead.” Zhao Kongcheng waved his hands helplessly, walked to the roadside curb, and sat down, feeling a little discontented.

If an ordinary person encounters this, he would be scared out of his wits. But this kid is still thinking about getting the study materials.

The most important thing is that he actually rejected me directly.

Damn it, I have shown the best I got! Those slashes are really cool!

I had never worked so hard when I was training with the captain!

Speaking of which, I don’t know what happened to the captain. The Ghost-faced King is not easy to deal with.

Zhao Kongcheng was sitting on the side of the road disregarding his personal image, staring blankly with a cigarette in his mouth.

Then, he was lost in thought.

Uhm?

Something seems wrong.

Zhao Kongcheng suddenly returned to his senses, reacted after half a second delay, then stood up abruptly. He quickly looked around.

Where did that kid go!?

Zhao Kongcheng stood there blankly for more than ten seconds, opening his mouth wide, unable to believe what he had gone through.

“Damn, this kid actually ran away?!”

“Brother, why did you come back so late today?”

Yang Jin looked at the tired Lin Qiye and asked suspiciously, “Where’s your white cane?”

Lin Qiye put on his slippers with a smile, “Something happened on the road, and I accidentally lost it.”

To prevent Yang Jin from seeing the scar near the temple, Lin Qiye wrapped half of the black satin back again. However, the white cane was broken, so he chose to throw it away instead of bringing it back and startling his family.

“It’s fine. Just replace the lost one. Is the matter resolved?”

“Well, it’s resolved.”

Blackie groaned and ran over from the balcony, rubbed his head against Lin Qiye’s calf, and then fell to the ground, exposing his belly.

Lin Qiye knelt helplessly, rubbed its belly with his hands, and asked, “Aunty hasn’t come back yet?”

“Mom is on night shift tonight and won’t be back until tomorrow morning.”

“Okay, are you done with your homework?”

“There’s still a little of them left.”

“Junior high school assigns so much homework. That’s abnormal.” Lin Qiye stood up, complained, and said to Yang Jin, “It’s okay. Rest if you are tired. If the teacher scolds you, tell the teacher that your brother will speak with him.”

The corners of Yang Jin’s mouth rose, “It will be finished soon.”

Lin Qiye nodded, “I’m a little tired. I shall go to bed first. You should go to bed early after you are done.”

“Alright.” Lin Qiye dragged his tired body into his room. When Yang Jin’s voice came again, he was about to close the door.

“Brother…are you really okay?”

“I’m fine. Go to bed early… By the way, the milk is in the refrigerator. So if you wake up early tomorrow, warm it up yourself.”

“Got it, bro.”

“Good night.”

“Good night.”

The door was gently closed, and Yang Jin stood outside the room with Blackie in his arms, silently watching Lin Qiye’s room.

Yang Jin gently rubbed Blackie’s head, “You feel it too?”

“Wang!“

He looked up at the dim moonlight outside the window and muttered, “There’s a smell of blood on him.”
