Devil's Word Magic In Fairy Tail

Chapter 32 - Natsu Dragneel

I flew through the night sky, moving in a straight line towards where Natsu had presumably landed.

I activated both my {Clairvoyance} and {Search} spells in order to find where he was.

When I did, I saw that he wasn't actually that far away from me currently, just a few more kilometers ahead.

Once I arrived, I found a half-n.a.k.e.d child with a scarf and ragged pants sleeping in the grass.

He was also snoring.

He should be about a year younger than me I think?

Well, all things considered it's probably one of those weird cases where he is technically younger, but also older…

But then again he's really not when you consider me being…

Wait I'm getting off topic here!

I stood above him, thinking whether or not I should wake the poor kid up...

He'll be quite confused I'd assume, what with his "Father" being nowhere to be found...

Well, for Natsu there's one way that'll definitely both wake him up and take his mind off things for a while!

Food.

I opened my storage and took out a bunch of different dishes I prepared beforehand ranging from grilled fish, cooked rice, beef steak and even a pizza that I tried my hand at making.

It didn't take long for Natsu's dragon class senses to pick up the aroma of food. He started sniffing while still in his sleep and suddenly stood up, lunging at the food and stuffing his mouth with everything he could get his hands on.

"..." I stood there looking at him from a distance in silence for a moment, that moment is all it took him to finish all of the food.

He let out a loud burp and said. "I want seconds!"

"Pffff... Hahaha! I don't know what else I expected, that's Natsu alright." I said as I laughed heartily and walked towards him.

Perhaps I thought too much of it, he may be the defacto protagonist of the original story, but really he's just a kid right now...

Natsu suddenly realized he didn't know where he was and started looking all over the place, presumably to find Igneel.

"Eh? Where am I?" He mumbled in confusion.

"Yo!" I said, waving my hand trying to get his attention.

"Hm? Who are you supposed to be?" He asked after finally noticing me, pointing a finger with narrowed eyes towards me.

"The guy who just fed you, want more? {Storage}." I asked, taking out an entire chicken from my storage spell.

I made this the other day since I thought I'd need to feed the lil' critter once he showed up.

Shounen protagonists are renowned for their huge appetite after all!

"Oooh! I don't know you, but I'll take the food!" He replied and started making short work of the chicken.

Seriously, what did I expect? It's just Natsu...

"So what's your name? I'm Arthur by the way." I introduced myself.

"Mby nhuame ish Nhautshu" He replied with a full mouth, making his words incomprehensible...

"Try that again, but after swallowing." I said and he complied.

Although he seemed like he was gonna choke on the food so I quickly gave him a glass of water which he gulped down as fast as he took it.

"Ahhh! Thanks Arthur! Really saved me there!" he said with a big grin on his face.

"Haaaaa... No problem Natsu, do you want any more food?" I asked with a sigh, giving up on the proper introductions.

"Yes!" He replied.

He eats allot even as a kid huh? Just as I expected…

...

After reducing my emergency food supply by about 30% Natsu was finally full!

Daylight had already started to break through as dawn approached. Natsu was patting his belly, satisfied by the king sized feast I provided him.

What did Igneel feed this little monster with? Half a dozen Bears?

Never mind…

"So how'd you end up here Natsu?" I asked, even though I knew better than he did.

"I… I don't know…" He said and paused for a moment, looking around the forest.

"Have you seen Igneel?" He asked me.

"Who's that?" I faked ignorance.

"My dad!" Natsu replied, like it answered everything.

"You're the only person here. I would know." I replied.

"But aren't you also here?" The oblivious child asked.

"Eh… Yes Natsu, yes I am." I face palmed.

"I should go look for Igneel! It was nice meeting you Arthur!" Natsu said and ran in a random direction.

"Do you have any idea where he might be?" I yelled at his receding figure which stopped at my words.

"N-No…" Natsu replied.

I simply shrugged and walked towards him.

"Well then, I guess I could help you look for the guy at least." I said

"Really?!" Natsu beamed a smile. "Thanks!"

"What does this Igneel look like?" I asked, still faking ignorance.

"Mmm… A dragon!" He said, oblivious to the reality that most people who hear that would either think he's lying or that it's just the cute fantasies of a child.

Thankfully I'm not most people.

"Right, a dragon." I nodded. "Is he big and green? Or big and red?" I asked.

"Huge and red." Natsu corrected me.

"Alright then, hop on. {Storage}!" I said and opened my storage space, taking out a helicopter from it!

"Whoa! What's that?! An animal? Can I eat it?" Natsu asked while moving around in circles around the helicopter, inspecting it.

"It's not an animal, and you can't eat it. You can think of it as a flying carriage I guess… Made of metal." I replied and got on in the c.o.c.kpit.

"Ooh! I've heard of those carriage things! But Igneel didn't say they could fly…" He replied, also getting in.

"Well then, here we go…" I said and looked at what was in front of me.

Now that I think about it, I never did learn how to pilot this thing…

"What's wrong?" Natsu asked.

"Nothing… {Autopilot}." I said and the helicopter started on its own, the controls moved as if they had an A.I. installed and it floated up in the air loudly.

"Damn that's loud! {Silence}!" I said and the all sound that was coming from the helicopter stopped.

"Much better, right Natsu?" I said and turned to Natsu.

The poor kid looked like he was about to barf out all the food he just ate!

"Oh crap I forgot!" I yelled out and put the helicopter back into my storage.

Well that was a short lived flight!

I grabbed Natsu midair and hovered down to the ground in low gravity.

"Sorry Natsu, turns out you have motion sickness…" I said apologizing to the guy.

I can't believe I forgot! That was one of the most overused gags in the show…

We'll it has been more than twelve years… Guess it's normal to forget some of the less important stuff…

Ugh… I should probably write down some stuff when I get home…

"Uuuuhhhh… That was horrible… I've never felt so horrible in my whole li- BLUGHE!" Natsu got cut off by his own barfing…

"I'm really sorry… I didn't know…" I said, apologizing honestly and patting his back.

"It's okay… I didn't either… Ugh…" He replied.

After that little incident I spent the entire day together with Natsu, looking through the forest for Igneel.

At first he acted normal. Well, as normal as Natsu can be, but after hours and hours of searching it turned to night again and there were still no clues what so ever that would lead towards Igneel…

Natsu started having a grim look on his face, he had even started shaking a little.

Suddenly he started mumbling to himself in a teary voice…

"Igneel… Where are you…" He said, sniffing at the end.

"Hey… Are you okay Natsu?" I asked with a concern riddled voice.

He sniffed. "Yes… Igneel wouldn't abandon me… He wouldn't…" He said while tears start running down his cheeks.

He had told me much about this father figure of his during the past dozen or so hours.

Just like the original story portrayed, he sounded like he was a great guy.

Natsu just wouldn't stop blabbering on and on about Igneel and all they do together, be it about hunting, eating, learning, or training in magic.

He even told me about the time Igneel blew a mountain up!

Well, maybe not so great of a guy after all?

Wait I'm part of Fairy Tail…

"I'm sure he had a reason." I said in an attempt to comfort him.

"Yeah… But he should have at least told me he'd be going somewhere!" He said, almost yelling at me.

"Maybe he couldn't risk telling you, he could be trying to protect you by leaving you behind..." I said.

"From what?! Igneel is the strongest! If he wanted to protect me he just needed to stay with me!" Natsu yelled with tears running down his face.

He sat down on the ground, face buried in his knees.

"Igneel would never do that… He'd never leave me behind…." He barely whispered under his breath, sniffling all the while.

I couldn't help but feel bad for the guy…

Being abandoned by someone you love isn't the easiest thing to deal with…

In some cases it could be worse than losing that person all together…

Even if that's not what truly happened, it's hard to think anything other than that in this situation…

"Haaa…" I sighed and sat next to Natsu, patting him on the back. "Look here Natsu, I may not be able to help you find him now… But… But I can definitely offer you a place to stay at while you search for him! You need help taking care of yourself…" Saying that hurt me…

Knowing the truth, yet keeping it to myself might not be the best move all the time…

But how would I explain knowing Igneel was inside of Natsu's own body?

Not to mention that him knowing the truth would probably cause a huge butterfly effect…

After all, Natsu had been looking everywhere for Igneel for over seven years prior to the start of the main storyline!

If he doesn't do that, allot might change… Natsu being Natsu and all…

The biggest problem is that he wouldn't meet Lucy, which would lead to her kidnapping by that one guy who I don't remember...

Well, I mean I could save her myself, but I don't know the date so I'd have to go on a wild goose chase until I found her…

Even if I did do that, more than likely she wouldn't get to partner up with Natsu…

I would be quite sad to see that famous trio of Natsu, Happy and Lucy not even get together in the first place!

"…" Natsu stood silent for a while, an occasional sniff could be heard from him.

After a few minutes he fell asleep…

"Sheesh… Running around all day must have tired him out." I couldn't help but smile.

I then created a small cabin in the woods where we were, beds and all.

I wanted him to get a good night's rest, after all I'll probably take him to Fairy tail tomorrow!

I myself got in another bed and got some shut eye.

Nite nite everyone… {Sleep}

I woke up early in the morning and used the spell {Refresh} on myself to get ready for the morning.

After getting out of bed, I looked towards Natsu who seemed to still be sleeping.

At least he seemed like it.

It didn't take him even a second to suddenly burst out of bed and onto his feet.

"N-Natsu?" I was a bit surprised at the sudden movement.

"…" He stood there in silence for a moment, as if contemplating something…

"Hey?" I called out to him.

"I won't give up on finding Igneel…. But like you said I should find a place for myself first… Like a base or… Something…" Natsu mused on the idea…

"Hehe!" I chuckled. "Alright then Natsu, how about you come see the guild I'm a part of?" I asked him.

"Guild? What's a guild?" He turned to me and asked, the scene of the crying boy was long gone already.

That's Natsu for you I guess…

"A wizard guild!" I replied, as if it answered the question…

"A wizard guild…?" He seemed even more confused now.

"Well… You'll find out soon enough. {Gate}!" I said and opened a portal leading to the front of the Guild hall.

"Ooh! That looks cool!" Natsu said, looking at the portal.

"I know right? Come on, this won't give you motion sickness." I said and almost walked through, but stopped midway.

"Wait, put these clothes on first… {Create clothing}." I said and made him a pair of new clothes to wear.

It was a red buttoned shirt and yellow pants.

"Okay? But why? I have clothes already." He replied.

"No, you have rags already." I corrected him.

He looked himself over and didn't argue further, simply putting the clothes on like instructed.

After that I walked through the portal and Natsu followed shortly after me.

When we arrived in front of the guild hall on the other side I closed the gate.

"Whoa! It's huge! So this is a wizard guild?!" He exclaimed in amazement, looking at the big building that was the Fairy Tail guild hall.

"Yup!" I replied with a smile.

"It's Fairy Tail." I told him.

"Fairy… Tail?" Natsu turned towards me, asking with a confused tone.

"Yes, that's the guild's name." I replied.

"What does it mean? A fairy's tail?" He asked.

Before I could even start explaining, someone else did in my stead.

"There's an old saying about our guild's name." An old voice said, walking towards us with the sound of a cane hitting the ground.

It was gramps!

"No one knows if fairies have tails or not, or even if fairies exist at all. Thus the name signifies eternal mystery, eternal adventure…" He continued.

"Whoa! I don't really understand, but this is awesome!" Natsu said in excitement.

"Hahaha! Yes, I agree on that as well! It is quite awesome! Hahaha" Gramps said with a grin and turned to me. "Good to see you Arthur my boy, who's your friend over here?" He asked.

"Ah, this is Natsu. I met him in the woods, seems like he got separated from his father, I helped him look for him but to no avail." I explained with a shrug

"Mmm… I see…" Gramps mused on the matter.

"Well, it's nice to meet you Natsu, my name is Makarov." Gramps introduced himself with a warm smile.

"Yeah, nice to meet you too old man!" Natsu replied with a smile of his own.

"Wanna come in and check it out?" I asked him.

"Okay!" He replied and the three of us entered the guild hall.

It was the morning, but there were still some people around.

Like Macao and Wakaba, who were seemingly always at the guild nowadays.

Gray and Lyon were also sitting at a table, Gray being nearly n.a.k.e.d.

Erza was at the notice board, probably looking for a job to go on.

Cana and Ultear were probably still sleeping…

We walked in a straight path between all the tables and people, Natsu looked awed at the amount of people here, even though there were only about twenty right now…

Still for him who had lived secluded in the forests and mountains with a giant dragon, this was a big crowd.

We neared the table where Gray and Lyon were at and Natsu stopped, staring at Gray for a few moments.

"Huh, What do you want? You got a nasty look." Gray said while crossing his legs and arms, glaring at Natsu.

"What?!" Natsu growled at him.

"Oh, an argument already?" Macao commented from the next table over.

"Yeesh! Go at it you two!" Wakaba encouraged.

"Gray, your clothes." I simply stated.

"Ehhh!? When did?!" He looked himself over in surprise.

"Oh, you're just a pervert." Natsu sneered, turning around with his hands behind his head.

"AH?! Who are you calling a pervert, slanty eyes!?" Gray said, clashing foreheads with Natsu as they both glared at each other.

"Who else but you! Droopy eyes!" Natsu replied.

The two started a brawl, making a huge racket.

"He's certainly feisty." Gramps commented.

"Oui! This is great!" Reedus said with a smirk, starting to paint a sketch of the fight.

I was going to intervene before Gray could get serious and hurt Natsu, but Erza had that covered.

She walked up to the two of them and separated them with both hands, standing in between them.

"Stop it." She said in a gentle, yet commanding tone while glaring at Gray.

She probably knew he could hurt Natsu too.

After all, in this timeline he'd been training allot!

"You pickin' a fight'?!" Natsu yelled at Erza from behind.

"Y-You idiot…!" Gray said with a terrified expression as he looked at Natsu.

Over the course of the last year, he had well and truly learned the fear that was Erza…

At least now he doesn't go around challenging her every day I guess?

Erza turned a glance towards Natsu and slammed the both of them in the wall, nearly knocking them out.

"Fools…" She mumbled as she looked at the both of them on the ground.

"Why… me… too…?" Gray barely managed to ask.

"No fighting. Do I make myself clear?" She asked with a glare.

"Y-YES!" Gray said raising his hand like a good little soldier.

"My how things have changed, hahaha!" I laughed in the background.

"S-so strong! S-so scary!" Natsu said, holding the bumps on his head from where Erza hit him.

"What's your name?" She asked Natsu.

"N-Natsu…" He replied, seemingly a bit embarrassed about it.

Maybe because there's so many people? I wouldn't know.

"Natsu, huh?" Erza mused "Listen, everyone who joins Fairy Tail is like family. And this is their home, home isn't a place for fighting. Do you understand?" She asked.

"Hmm? Uh-huh…" He seemed confused.

"I'm Erza! It's good to meet you." She introduced herself.

"Erza is scary…" Natsu muttered under his nose.

"Right?" Gray replied, agreeing with him.

"Huh?" They both turned to one another and grinned at each other before quickly realizing they each hate the other guy and scoffed, turning their head to the side.

"Rough first impressions, ey Natsu?" Gramps said walking up to him with a grin.

"Kind of… I guess…?" He replied

"So? How about it, do you like the place?" I asked with a grin of my own.

He looked at me for a second before smiling brightly and nodding to my words.

"If that's the case why don't you join up? Hahaha!" Gramps laughed heartily.

"B-but I need to search for Igneel…" He replied, uncertain of what to do now.

"You can still do that, wizard guild members travel a lot during jobs requests so you might end up meeting up with him on one, it's a good start and I can promise you anyone would agree to help!" I explained to him.

"Job… Requests?" He asked.

"I'll explain later." I simply replied.

"Who's this Igneel?" Lyon asked suddenly.

"Natsu's father, they got separated. It seems Igneel had some kind of reason to leave him behind, though I'm sure he'll come back eventually." I tried explaining in a way that wouldn't make Natsu sad, though that was quite hard as his shoulders immediately slumped down.

Gray saw that, and surprisingly patted him on the back.

"Cheer up stink eye! I'm sure this Igneel fella will turn up eventually." Gray tried cheering him up.

"Thanks." Natsu said and walked up to me.

"So how do I join?" He asked.
