Disastrous New Age

Chapter 23 - Goblin King Killed

"So basically today we will fight the boss? Are there any questions you have?" asked Lucian while he was still eating his fried chicken wing.

After thinking for a minute, Sophia asked, "How we start the battle? Isn't the boss still too much for the two of us?"

She was still unsure about fighting the boss. The risks of making a mistake were too much. If Lucian died, she would die together with him, since she wouldn't be able to go back.

"We have fought together for a week. What is there to worry? Or do you still not trust me enough?" Lucian still had no idea why she was worrying so much.

"As for how we start the battle, it will go like this..." Lucian didn't only explain how will they start it but the whole process until they kill it.

Hearing the plan all together, Sophia felt more assured about killing the Goblin King. But after hearing the plan she was curious about something. "How do you know about how the boss moves?"

Lucian knew that this question would arrive sooner or later and he knew that he couldn't hide it for long. It would all be revealed after he graduates but it wouldn't make a difference if he tells Sophia right now.

"Well, I have some information form China Guild."

"What?! How?" She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She wanted to know more but Lucian wouldn't allow her to know more.

It would become troublesome if he revealed that he was teamed up with him at the event. Solely based on the identity of Zhang Ye it would bring him a lot of trouble.

But it was even more important to hide that he was actually Ghost Face. That identity will be very useful in the future and as long as nobody else beside Zhang Ye knows that, it should be fine.

But for safety sake, Lucian still thought of making another identity for himself. He wanted to play it safe, in case of emergency.

Guns were still a deadly thing these days and killing someone with it was a little bit harder than before the disaster but it was still an efficient way. Well that's what he read on a random website.

After trying to know some more, Sophia stopped asking because Lucian didn't want to tell her more.

They grabbed everything they needed and left in the direction of the boss. As they got near it there was no goblins around. The only monster around was Goblin King that was sitting on its throne.

"Stick to the plan and we will be fine." Lucian said. From the information he got from Zhang Ye about this boss, he got to know that it won't move until you hit it.

Knowing that, Lucian climbed up the Goblin King's throne and steadied himself. His aim was the boss's neck since it would do the most damage.

As Lucian get ready to strike he signaled Sophia that he would attack. Sophia got ready and would immediately use Judgement Hammer after Lucian has hit the boss.

'Now!' Lucian leaped off the throne and readied both of his daggers.

Just before he hit his target, he activated Slash hoping that it would work on both daggers if he struck with both of them at the same time. But in spite of trying, it didn't work.

The skill had only activated on one of the daggers.

Looking with disappointment at the daggers, Lucian sighed. It seems that the System isn't so nice in this aspect.

Slash!

He swung both of the daggers at the boss's neck. Blood spurted out of the wound, leaving Lucian shocked. "I actually dealt more damage than expected."

Overall, Lucian was expecting Goblin King to have better defense but it seemed like it was totally opposite.

It had barely any defense, it's skin wasn't as hard as people had thought. But as reality showed, it's skin was almost the same as humans if the color is excluded.

On the other hand, his attack power was immense.

"AGRAGRAAAAAH!" Goblin King was already screaming. He was totally angry. Standing up from his throne, he picked up a wooden club that was leaned on one of the statues.

Lucian on the other hand steadily landed on the grass. He shook his daggers so the blood came off.

Sophia knew it was her turn at this moment, so she casted Judgement Hammer as soon as Lucian landed on the ground.

[Goblin King is too strong. The weakened effect will only last for 30 seconds.]

[Goblin King is weakened. Strength and Defense decreased by 10%.]

But this was already known from the information Lucian got from Zhang Ye.

"It's weakened, attack now!"

As soon as Lucian heard the affirmation that the boss has been weakened, he dashed towards it, while using Stealth.

In this week that they were both inside the portal, both of their levels and skill leveled up. So to say, they were both stronger than before and that is by a huge margin.

Lucian's fighting experience also increased which meant that he had less flaws while fighting. It also meant that it was harder for him to make mistakes midst the battle.

Now that he was in Stealth, Goblin King directly was confused as where his target disappeared. It was looking around hoping to find where the ant which hurt its neck was but in the end it couldn't find that ant.

Now that there was only Sophia that was visible, it instantly looked towards her and charged her way.

Another piece of information was correct. Lucian smiled as he saw that Goblin King was running towards Sophia now.

It was mentioned that this boss didn't have much intelligence and it also wasn't very perceptive.

As you could put it, the boss was a muscle head.

"Earth Vine!" Next up was the only spell he had which he received as a reward after the event.

The ground beneath the boss shook as it was running. Its instincts were telling it that it should dodge.

But before it could react fast enough, vines already came from the ground.

"Agraau?"

Then something unexpected happened. As the boss wanted to dodge the vines grabbed it's legs. While it was still in the motion of dodging, it tripped and fell on the ground.

Crash!

"What?" Both Lucian and Sophia were surprised. To think something like this could happen. It seems that the description of spells was made for monsters who had at least some intelligence.

The spell was supposed to stop someone from moving for one second but due to what happened at the moment, the boss couldn't move for the whole three seconds.

Now is a chance!

Lucian dashed towards the fallen boss. As he got a meter away from his body, he swung both of his dagger towards the arm of the boss.

There was still time until he picked himself up so with that swing, the Goblin King's right arm got cut off.

"Agrgahg!"

After having his arm cut off, Goblin King was even more pissed. Without even trying to get up, it grabbed its wooden club with its left arm and swung it towards Lucian.

Wooden club was very big and even one hit could hurt Lucian a lot.

Lucian dodged to the side and dashed towards its right leg. Since he cut of its right arm, the movement it could do was more limited its attack range was also smaller.

Goblin King had to swing stronger and faster if he wanted to hit Lucian who was on its right side. It was also weaker with its left hand.

Smash!

Ground shook as the club landed on the ground.

A crack appeared on the ground but Lucian wasn't below the club. He was at the side lying on the ground due to dodging the attack.

Just before he dodged, he also managed to stab one dagger into the boss's leg.

At this point, Goblin King was already numb to pain as its only goal was to kill both Lucian and Sophia.

Still holding the other dagger, Lucian immediately stood up and took out dagger form Goblin King's leg before the other could lift its wooden club.

Now with both daggers back in his hands, Lucian backed off and put his daggers back into Inventory so that he could pull out his Phoenix Bow.

Phoenix bow in his hands and a bunch of arrows in his quiver, Lucian steadied himself and got ready to shoot.

Aiming directly at Goblin King's eyes, he pulled the string with full force and after making sure the aim was steady, he released it.

Whoosh!

The arrow was released and flying directly to its eye.

When the arrow was already mid flight, Goblin King only just stood up. It heard the sound of something flying through the air but before it could take a clear look, the arrow already pierced its left eye and went through its skull.

Immediately after having its skull pierced, it fell back on the ground.

Now seeing that Goblin King was not moving, both Lucian and Sophia breathed a sigh of relief.

Thinking about all of the good drops this boss could drop, Lucian hurriedly got near the body. "Let's see what it dropped."

Slam!

The wooden club smashed down towards Lucian. Just as before he dodged it.

But this time one thing was different. He only dodged because of his Dodge skill and not because he wanted to.

Dodge skill allowed him to dodge an attack without him seeing it coming. His body would move on it's own and dodge it.

Even thought Lucian was still shocked at this moment, he quickly shot another arrow at the Goblin King's head.

"Don't mess with this daddy."

After the arrow pierced the head, a notification rang out from the System.

[Congratulations on killing the first floor boss Goblin King.]
