Disastrous New Age

Chapter 6 - What Kind Of Training Did You Do?

After a minute Lucian got up and the pain was gone.

Instructor Smith looked at the part where the ball hit him and it is like there was no wound there. Even though he knew that Lucian is okay, he still asked, "Are you okay?"

"Yes. I'm okay. Thank you for using a Health potion on me Instructor. I will pay you back on day," said Lucian.

Hearing this, Instructor waved his hand and said, "That is not necessary. Just be stronger so you can bring more fame to this academy.."

"I will remember than." Lucian still decided, that he will pay the Instructor back.

"I told you that it's not worth. See what happened? You got hurt. Although you tried your best you still failed. It is really no worth the time."

Then, even without even a slight pause, he pulled out the paper where he checked the completion of every exercise. "You have passed the test and now became a student of this academy. You also almost got full points on everything, so I have to congratulate you."

"You are actually the first one to finish this test with such a score. It seems that you will be a huge help to this academy. I hope you will not betray us and enter another academy."

'I don't even have any credits. How could I even travel to another academy?' Lucian shook his head. "Don't worry about that Instructor. I have no intention of doing that."

"Good, good." Instructor Smith said 'good' twice. It could be heard how relieved he was hearing Lucian assure him that he won't betray this academy.

Then he cleared his throat and said, "With that finished now, I need you to show me what your class is."

"How do I do that?"

Smith had a surprised look on his face realizing that Lucian didn't know how to do it. "You really don't know?"

Lucian shook his head. "I really don't."

"Then let me explain it to you how to do it." He took a deep breath and started explaining. "When guilds were made, nobody knew how to show others your stats, class and so on. But 3 years ago, people discovered that you only need to use your mind and choose the part of your status that you wanted to turn visible to others."

He showed Lucian his stats, class and his job.

"With this, the guilds could tell immediately who has potential and who doesn't have potential in being a battler. Those people without that potential could either quite the guild or only work so increase their job level and proficiency."

"Of course leaving the guild was a really stupid idea. If a person left a guild, he wouldn't be able to increase their job anymore unless he found a person that would deliver him items in exchange for making items for that person."

"Showing your stats, class and job to a guild can also have a huge impact on you. If you had very good stats, the guild would spend more time training you and would also allocate more resources to you."

"On the other hand if you had a bad class, a bad job and weak stats, the guild would only set you aside and you would only be able to get very few resources form the guild."

"The guilds are also like that even now and you need to make sure you stand out so you can get more resources. Understand?"

Lucian nodded. Then he realized something. 'From when I came to the academy I kept nodding to almost everything. I barely even talked.'

But he couldn't think more because Instructor Smith said, "Now I told you everything and showed you how to do it. It is time you show me your class."

Lucian closed his eyes and imagined that his class was visible to Instructor Smith. It took him just a moment and his class was already visible.

"So you are a Rouge class," said Instructor Smith and thought about something. Then he said, "Is it because of this class that you have such a good reaction speed?" Then he shook his head.

"No that's not right. At the start a class has nothing to do with an ability of a person. Only after that person has leveled up, could he increase his skills and start allocating stat points into his stats."

He looked at Lucian. "Show me you stats. I want to see how high they are."

Hearing the instructor say that he wanted to see his stats, Lucian closed his eyes again and imagined his stats being shown to the instructor. Again it took a moment for the stats to become visible.

"Whoa! Your stats are really high. You really have the potential to be one of the strongest people in the world. But you should still train as much as you can. Even if you have talent for that, if you don't train much, you will die at some point."

This was a clear warning to Lucian. If he didn't train and just started to slack off, he would die one day in the portal.

"Don't worry instructor I won't stop training." Lucian assured him that he will still train hard.

'Of course I need to train hard because if I won't get any resources to increase my job level and proficiency.'

If Instructor Smith knew what what Lucian was thinking, he would immediately throw him out of here if not do even something worse.

"Now you need to show me you Job."

"Well about that..." Lucian smiled awkwardly.

"What is it? Is there something wrong?" asked Instructor Smith.

Lucian patted his head and said, "Well I haven't chosen a job yet."

Instructor Smith thought for a while after he heard that. "You need to choose a Job if you want to join the academy, so it would be the best if you did it now while the test is still commencing."

Lucian nodded and opened up his status. He clicked the Job tab and a selection of Jobs appeared before him.

"So which job are you going to choose?" asked Smith. He knew that Lucian has already decided which one he will choose.

A mysterious smile appeared on Lucian's face. 'What does that mean?' Smith asked himself. 'Does he have a secret?'

Lucian chose a Blacksmith Job and clicked it. A System notification appeared.

[Do you want to become a Blacksmith?]

[Yes/No]

Lucian clicked Yes.

[After getting a job you won't be able to change it. Are you sure you want to become a Blacksmith?]

[Yes/No]

Lucian wanted to be a Blacksmith because it was a Job at which you could make your own weapons and didn't need to buy them. There was also another reason. He made a promise with George that they will work together.

He pressed Yes without any hesitation.

[Congratulations. You have become a Blacksmith.]

At this point he looked around himself.

"Why is there no light surrounding me?" he asked. "Does it not work like that?"

Instructor Smith shook his head and said, "It doesn't work like this. Actually you aren't the first one who asked that. There were many people who asked the same question as you. They thought that a light will appear and surround them like in those games when characters level up or complete a mission."

"Let me tell you, this isn't a game but real life. You don't have multiple lives. If you die, you won;t resurrect or anything. Why would there even be a light? It is not logical at all."

Lucian looked at Smith and asked, "But instructor. If this is real world, why is there a System? This is also like in the games."

"Well..." Instructor Smith didn't know how to answer that. "What Job did you choose? Come on, show me." He completely changed the topic.

He showed his job to Smith.

"Why did you choose to be a Blacksmith? Any reason?" he asked Lucian.

"Yes." Lucian nodded and said, "It is better to make your own weapons. I wouldn't need to spend credits on buying them and I could also sell them for more profit. It is all about credits these days."

"I see." Instructor Smith understood how Lucian felt. Money was also a kind of power. With enough credits, you could buy yourself all the best equipment, potions... Basically everything. This was also a reason that most people wanted to level up their Jobs really fast.

He took out the test paper and checked the last thing on it.

"You have completed the test. Now you have become a student of this academy. Jimmy will show you where the student dorm is and you will be given a room. After that I will send you your student ID."

He put the paper away and asked Lucian, "Now can you tell me what was that mysterious smile all about when you were choosing your Job?" He was really curious.

Lucian shrugged. "I only did it so it makes me look more mysterious. Isn't it interesting?"

Smith kept shaking his head. "It is not interesting at all. I thought you really had some secrets but it seems that i was excited for nothing."

Then he remembered something and asked, "Can you also tell how you achieved those stats by training alone? What kind of training did you do?"

Hearing that, Lucian became serious. He asked, "Do you really want to know?"

Smith became excited. "Is he really going to tell me?"

Lucian closed his eyes for a while while still being serious. Then he suddenly opened them. "I have been doing my training for 3 whole years. Now after 3 whole years I have finally become this strong. My training regimen was..."

"One hundred push-ups! One hundred sit-ups! One hundred squats! Then a ten kilometer run! Every single day!"

After saying this he left the testing room. Jimmy was already waiting outside for him.

Instructor Smith was just left dumbfounded in the testing room.
