Dragon Ball: New Life

Chapter 10 - Extinction

Outside of the city, low in the upper atmosphere the four mother sh.i.p.s had gathered. No doubt they planned to take the city after their bomb did its work. The control antennas had completed synthesizing, so I decided to plant them now that the sh.i.p.s were together. Bulma had managed to place the antennas in capsules, which was why I was able to carry all four. I waited at the main gate, behind the force field, for the bomb to do its work.

One of the sh.i.p.s descended into view of the city. The ship hovered for less than a minute before making a rapid ascent to rejoin the other sh.i.p.s. The world outside of the force field lit up from the explosion on the horizon. A red static like energy was released from the blast. The energy spread from the detonation point killing all life it came in contact with.

The all planetary water sources were vaporized leaving the planet a desiccated wasteland. In less than three weeks the planets atmosphere will be gone. Twenty seconds was all the time needed for the bomb to complete its job. All life on the planet, outside the barrier, had become extinct. The one good thing about the extinction bomb is there are no after effects. The surface of the planet was perfectly safe.

The force field flickered momentarily before failing do to an overload. Had the bomb lasted for a few more seconds we all would have died. The four sh.i.p.s landed several miles from the city. It was time for me to head out meet this pirate leader.

I flew over the newly created rocky terrain, in the direction of the pirates. I could see a group of pirates hovering in the air as I approached their landing zone. When the pirates had landed I sensed that there probably wasn't many who stand against me.

"Out of my way, PEONS!" I shouted while coming to a stop in midair, "DOUBLE SUNDAY!"

The blast exploded on impact with one of the pirates in the middle of the group. Most of the others were caught up in the explosion. Their charred bodies plummeted from the sky as in continued my flight to my targets. I could sense that I was being chased by the pirates I passed by. There was enough of them behind me that I didn't need to really need to aim. Without looking back I fired several Ki orbs.

From the sound of the explosions and the the disappearing Ki signatures I could tell the orbs hit. As I passed over one the the sh.i.p.s I removed a capsule holding one of the antennas. I pressed the plunger and tossed it at the hull of the ship. The antennae found its mark and melded with the surface of the ship.

I repeated the process three more times before finally I heard Berri's voice call out.

"Raditz, what're you hopin' to prove we've already won." he floated up to meet me. His men moved aside clearing him a path. "I was gonna let you join my crew... now I gotta make an example of you. Stand back men. I'mma handle this myself."

The pirates could only look on dumbfounded as their boss and I vanished. They could hear explosions and feel the shock waves from our battle all around them. Very few of them had the skill needed to follow our battle. Most of them moved back further in fear of getting caught up in the combat.

Their boss was strong, but he lacked in skill. He seemed to have gotten comfortable with his current strength and slacked off with his training.

I managed to catch Berri off guard by blocking the uppercut he attempted to through, Before his surprise had worn off I forced my right knee into his nose shattering his bones. I then slashed down with my left elbow taking advantage of his disorientation.

A cloud of dust rose from the side of the rocky hill I sent Berri speeding into. Boulders exploded out as he charged back through the air in a rage blinded by thoughts of retribution. When he was close the pirate used both hands to unleash a claw attack. His hands were moving rapidly trying to turn me into shredded ribbons.

After I adjusted to the rhythm of his slashes I thrust my hands out. The pirate's attack was halted. I caught his hands by forcing my fingers through his palms.

"Ahhh!" Berri screamed trying to pull his hands back. Green blood oozed from his wounds. "Lemme go!"

"You've lost!" I announced removing my fingers from his wounds. Berri continued to shriek as his newly freed hands swelled and exploded. The rest of the pirates fled to their sh.i.p.s when they witnessed their boss get turn into an unrecognizable puddle. When the sh.i.p.s began to lift off I raced back to the city.

"Was the link established?" I asked as I walked into Dreb's office.

"Yeah." Bulma answered, "How'd want to proceed?"

"Once they exit the atmosphere have the A.I. vent the crews into space. Then land the sh.i.p.s near the city." I ordered. I turned to Dreb and said, "When the sh.i.p.s land disconnect the A.I. and begin the evacuation of the city. We have a long trip ahead of us."

"Right." Dreb bowed and hurried out.

Adding in the data from the pirate sh.i.p.s the A.I. was able to find a suitable planet for the resettlement. It was the last task the computer completed before it was shutdown for transport. Without the A.I. running all of the robots began to shutdown around the city. I did suggested that we name the A.I., Big Gete.

The journey to the planet that would become known as New Gren'dir took four months. The planet's foliage and fauna were reminiscent of Earth during the Jurassic period. There were only two super landmasses on the planet. It took Bulma a month to adapt to the gravity of the planet, which was double that of Earth's.

Turns out the Gen'dir people are more adaptable than humans. They adapted to the gravity in a day. Big Gete was activated by a nearby volcano. It would burrow mechanical tendrils into the soil to reach the magma. The volcano would then serve as the main power source for the system. It would then convert nearby resources into needed structures building a new city.

While all of this happened I made sure to stay nearby in case of danger. All two-hundred thousand citizens of Gren'dir made to the planet, it would have been a shame to lose one before the new city was complete.

By the end of the year all of the city was fully online and operational. A high speed communication system was created by Big Gete so Bulma could contact her father at Capsule Corp. Robots tended a special field that grew a new type of bean Big Gete genetically modified from its study of Senzu beans. They were the same size as Senzu beans, but were very pale green in color. They had the same general function.

However, the new beans, which were dubbed Panacea beans could keep a person full for fifteen days and also cured the body of illness, along with healing injuries.

A celebration was being held to commemorate the completion of the city. I was going to leave the party early because there was going to be a full moon later that night. When it was about to get dark

I said goodnight to Bulma and started to leave. I turned around from the table we were sitting at and bumped into a passing woman. She had medium length orange hair, blue skin, and golden eyes. She might have just finished work because she was wearing a lab coat.

"Sorry, are you ok?" I asked.

"Yes I'm fine, my lord. Was in a hurry to see the hyper moons and wasn't paying attention." she said.

"The hyper what?" I was truly curious.

"Ah! I study astrology." she began, "While I was studying this new environment I learned that every two thousand years a secondary moon comes into view of the planet and the primary moon will appear to be huge. And tonight is one of those nights." she was exited.

I walked out of the party quickly keeping my head down. Something was wrong I didn't feel right. My skin felt like it was on fire. My joints were aching and my muscles felt like they were swelling. I hadn't even looked up at the hyper moons and I felt the transformation happening. Except this was different it felt more sever. I could already tell if I transformed I would lose my mind and go on a rampage. This wasn't normal my Ki was rising at a hazardous pace.

I dropped to my knees right outside of the banquet area. Ki was flowing out of my body like stream. My skin was cracking apart.

"Raditz!" Bluma shouted an ran over. She saw me fall from were she was sitting. She put a Panacea bean in my mouth. My body completely healed after chewing the bean, but started breaking down again.

In a panic I did the only thing I could think of. I formed a blade of Ki and severed my own tail. The transformation ceased for a moment before my tail grew back. I thought about trying to destroy the moons next but they were too close to the planet.

"GET BACK!" I shouted. I could only clutch my head in pain and scream as balls of energy flew from my body.

"AHHH!" one of the energy balls happened to hit my ship reducing it to scrap. Fighting through the pain I flew off to an isolated location. My eyes began to turn red taking on the great ape appearance. My size had also started to painfully increase by the time I located a massive waterfall deep in a jungle. I ate another Panacea bean and sat under the waterfall to cool my burning skin.

As I meditated to suppress my power I knew instinctively if I transformed I was dead and if I couldn't get control of my Ki I was equally dead. I didn't know if it was even possible but I fought with everything I had to keep the transformation at bay.

I couldn't let those moons defeat me.

I wasn't the old Raditz.

I wasn't a through away character that would be forgotten.

I was going to be remembered.

An aura of the great ape appeared around me as I hovered cross legged under the current of the waterfall. As I meditated the aura slowly flowed into my body.

"Blegh!" I coughed out a mouthful of blood.

For two weeks day or night the hyper moons stayed visible in the sky of New Gren'dir. I opened my eyes once I could feel everything was over. I looked up and saw those cursed moons were no longer in the sky. I floated to the ground and immediately collapsed into the best sleep of my life. When I made it back to the city I was emaciated from the whole ordeal. I never wanted to go through anything like that ever again.

Once it was over I did realize that something had changed within me. Some fundamental part of my core was very different. It was going to take some time to really understand what happened, but at least there won't be another hyper moon event for another two thousand years.

I found Bulma near the center of the city in her personal workshop. When I walked in she ran up and gave me a tight hug.

"You had me worried, but I knew you'd pull through." she said.

"I'm happy somebody knew." I joked.

"What happened, Raditz?" she asked.

"Those hyper moons really messed me up." I informed her. "They were making my Ki completely unstable."

"By the way we are going to be here for awhile. You blew up our ship." she said puffing her cheeks.

"I hoped that was a hallucination." I said rubbing my forehead.

"Don't worry Big Gete and I have already been working on building a replacement." she crossed her arms in pride.

"Thank you. I'm going to be away from the city for awhile. I need to get a handle on what happened to me. I'll come back as often as I can, will you be alright?" I informed her of my plan.

"I'll be fine I have the new ship to keep me busy." she smiled.

We ate a large meal later that afternoon before I left back to the wilderness to train. I could feel a primal, primitive rumble call from deep inside. My power had undoubtedly increase from surviving the hyper moons and once I fully mastered this internally rumbling feeling, I knew my power would increase again. Even though I almost died the hyper moon might have turned out to be on of the greatest gifts ever.

I didn't need to watch out for predators. All of the animals could sense they needed to keep their distance from me.
