Dragon Ball: New Life

Chapter 17 - Meeting

"Follow me. I think I know where we need to go." Raditz said.

He had found a strong source of power; it was coming from a singular source. Raditz concluded it was Nail, the guard of the Grand Elder. If he was right, it wouldn't be long before they would have a meeting with the leader of the Namekians.

The group flew at a leisurely pace, giving Piccolo a chance to take in the sight of his home world. They passed over two villages on the way to the Elder's plateau. Raditz was hoping to conclude the meeting fast because they would need time to prepare for Frieza's arrival.

Most of the planet was lacking in Raditz's opinion. If he remembered correctly, there were only six villages on the planet and around one hundred Namekians. The sparse population of the planet might have been caused by a cataclysm in the past, but Raditz knew the real reason. The author of the manga didn't like drawing cities.

On top of a narrow plateau was an enormous house of similar design to Kami's spaceship. It was white, with bulbous windows, and spiked protrusions. The group landed on the grassy plateau a few feet away from the structure. It was not long before a Namekian wearing a long blue sleeveless robe, loose fitting white pants, and traditional Namekian shoes emerged from the house. It was Nail the guard of the ancient Namekian.

"What business do you have here, outsiders?" Nail questioned. His guard was raised in expectation of a fight.

"We are here to speak with your leader." Raditz calmly spoke, "I am Raditz, ruler of the Prometheus Empire. I have a request and warning for your leader."

Nail narrowed his eyes at Raditz's statement, "What kind of warning?"

"Frieza is coming to take your Dragon Balls and destroy your world." Raditz stated calmly, "He has considerable power. It would be unwise to try to stand against him alone."

Nail considered those words before taking note of the unfamiliar Namekian in the group. The pair stared at each other for a moment until Nail decided he had heard enough.

"Your warning is appreciated now go." he commanded.

"But wha-" Reiss was going to protest but was silenced by Raditz.

"Very well." Raditz nodded at the Namekian and turned to leave. He was taking a gamble that this was a test.

"Nail!" a loud gravelly voice called out from inside the house, "Show our guests in."

"Very well. Grand Elder Guru," Nail responded to the voice. He then turned to the group and ordered, "Follow me."

They were led into the Namekian home. Inside was an oversized, deathly old, Namekian seated on an equally oversized chair. His breathing was labored from either his size or age. This Namekian was the Grand Elder Guru, father of all Namekians currently living on the planet.

"Welcome to Namek." the Grand Elder spoke, "Please explain about this danger."

Raditz went on about the coming assault on the planet. In as few as two weeks the Frieza Force would be here to located the Dragon Balls. When he was finished with the explanation the Grand Elder took a moment to consider everything he'd been told.

"If you help me with my request. I will ensure Namek will survive." Raditz added.

"What would you like?" Guru asked.

"My brother and I are Saiyans. Our planet was destroyed by Frieza years ago. I would like your permission to use your Dragon Balls to wish my world back." Raditz voiced his request.

"I would allow you to do so, if you can save my planet, but the Dragon Balls can only wish back one person. Although bringing the planet itself back would be doable." Guru explained.

"Bringing the planet itself back is fine for now. Also, it isn't necessary but I would like for your people to join my empire." Raditz clarified, "By joining we would protect your world from external harm."

"And what would be rquired of us if we join your empire?" the Grand Elder was truly curious. This Saiyan was not like the ones he'd heard about.

"Well, you guys seem to make excellent planetary Guardian Deities like Piccolo's other half." Raditz pointed to the younger Namekian. "If you could send out others to become Kami's, it would help greatly."

The giant Namekian focused on Piccolo for a moment, "The son of Katas survived after all. It is good that others survived the cataclysm, which destroyed our world. I thought I was the last survivor."

"Thank you, I felt a connection to this planet the moment I set foot on the surface." Piccolo said. "Raditz may be hard to deal with, but he means what he says."

"Very well, my time in this life is growing shorter. You have allowed me to meet one of my lost kin before go, so I will allow you to use the Dragon Balls. They are tied to my life. If I die before you defeat Frieza, they will be useless to you. I trust that after you use them you will stay to help us fight Frieza." Guru said after listening to his fellow Namekian.

"I'll consider it payment rendered, for my services." Raditz affirmed.

"I will leave deciding on joining your empire to my successor. After you make your wish come back so that I might awaken any hidden potential within your group. I would attempt it now, but the strain may shorten my life too much." Guru continued, "Nail, inform the villages to gather the Dragon Balls and escort our new friends to an appropriate place to use them."

Nail bowed to Guru and escorted the group out of the house. The plan was to fly to each of the six villages to collect the Dragon Balls. Nail already had the one located in the Grand Elder's house. The Dragon Balls created on Earth were baseball sized, unlike the Namekian basketball sized orange orbs.

Raditz ordered Reiss to go collect his mother. Otherwise, she would be mad she missed seeing the dragon.

The trip to the villages wouldn't have taken as much time as it did, but the villagers wanted to meet the strange group of aliens. Piccolo seemed to find meeting his long lost relatives enjoyable. Kami would have enjoyed seeing the planet himself, but he was Earth's guardian. He also was going to collect the Earth dragon Balls in preparation to wish Yamcha back for Kakarot and his friends.

Bulma was waiting at the shuttle monitoring the instruments in case the Menagerie transmitted any signals. It was a boring job, but from what she saw of the planet on the way down it wasn't much to see. She was curious as to what Frieza looked like. While she was lost in her daydream about appearance the of galactic tyrant, she heard someone access the shuttle.

When she swiveled round in her seat to see who the intruder was, she was surprised to see her son Reiss. She didn't know why he had come back to the shuttle alone. As strong as he was, it was still no reason to leave him unattended on an unknown planet. She was going to have words with Raditz, he could be very irresponsible at times.

"Father wanted me to bring you back to see the dragon. They are collecting the Dragon Balls and he thought you would want to see it!" Reiss was excited himself. He never saw Dragon Balls being used. There were none on Gren'dir where he lived.

"Really!?" Bulma asked clearly interested. Reiss nodded quickly, letting his mother know he was serious. The pair quickly exited the shuttle and flew off in the direction of the others.

"Remember when we get near to the others I need you a carry me." Bulma reminded her son.

"I know. Father can't know you can fly." Reiss laughed, "Why not just tell him?"

"None of your business. You ask too many questions." Bulma turned her head away from Reiss.

The boy shrugged his shoulders and continued to lead his mother to the meeting spot. Reiss brought his speed down because his mother was very slow when it came to flying. He did greatly admire her skill with technology. Reiss picked up more than a few things when he spent time with his mother. He loved gaining new information because he liked being prepared. His father always stressed the importance of knowing your enemy, or having enough intelligence to be adaptable.

When the pair drew closer to the village, Bulma did indeed stop flying and had Reiss carry her. His mother was nothing if not thorough in carrying on her pretense. The village everyone was gathered in looked mostly identical to the rest. The only differences between the villages was the number and arrangement of homes.

"We are about to collect the final two Dragon Balls." Raditz said to his wife and son as they approached. Once they were together, the group departed for their goal.

The last village they came to was home to the Namekian child Dende. Moori the elder of the village was a visibly older Namekian. He wore an orange vest, with a white scarf, and white loose fitting pants similar in style to most Namekians. In the original continuity Moori would take the place of Grand Elder Guru as leader of the Namekians.

While Nail was introducing everyone to Moori, Reiss and Gohan decided to go talk with the two Namekian children they saw. The pair turned out to be Dende and Cargo. At first, the Namekians were nervous talk to the alien children, but grew more comfortable as the conversation drew on.

Nail decided to bring the group to this village last because Moori was going to the one to summon the dragon. The villagers all gathered in the center of the settlement around the Dragon Balls to witness the summoning.

"Takkaraput pop porunga pupiritt paro!" Moori shouted. The seven orbs pulsed with a yellow glow.

The sky darkened in a wide diameter around the area, even though the planet never experienced night. A golden flash of energy surrounded by lightning exploded into the dark sky from the Dragon Balls. The Earthlings were amazed by the sight.

When the light from the Dragon Balls dimmed the group stared up at the massive Namekian dragon, Porunga. It was larger than the Earth dragon, Shenron. Porunga possessed a muscular upper body with full length arms. It had four black horns growing from its head, two on the top, and two growing from the side of its face. From the dragon's forehead grew a pair of Namekian antenna. There was a fin running from its head all the way down its serpentine tail.

"STATE YOUR WISHES!" The dragon's voice thundered as it spoke, while staring down at the group with its crimson eyes.

"Wishes?" Krillin asked, "How many does it grant? The Earth dragon can only grant one."

"Porunga grants three wishes." Moori explained.

"I would like for Planet Vegeta to be restored." Raditz said to Moori.

The elder translated Raditz's request into Namekian because the dragon would only grant wishes spoken in the native language.

"IT SHALL BE!" the dragon's crimson eyes burned as it worked to accomplish its task, "YOUR WISH IS GRANTED! STATE YOUR SECOND WISH!"

"Mighty Porunga, are you able to bring back more than one person at a time?" Raditz asked the dragon.

"NO. IT IS NOT WITHIN MY POWER TO RESURRECT MORE THAN ONE BEING AT A TIME!" Porunga answered.

"In that case, I require the perfect Namekian, willing to be Kami of Planet Vegeta." Raditz said to Moori. Raditz wanted to have the Kami of Planet Vegeta create Dragon Balls that could restore the population.

The elder Namekian looked hesitant to ask the dragon to grant the wish. After Moori made the request to the dragon its eyes glowed once more. A plump elder Namekian with a wooden staff appeared near the Dragon Balls.

Raditz recognized this Namekian as Tsuno, one of the village elders they met previously. Tsuno looked around confused as to how he arrived in Moori's village.

"TSUNO, WILL YOU BE THE KAMI OF PLANET VEGETA?" Porunga asked the elder.

"I would be happy to obey lord, Porunga." Tsuno bowed down to the dragon in awe.

"YOUR WISH IS GRANTED!" Porunga spoke again and Tsuno disappeared from the spot once more.

Raditz felt Porunga basically strong armed the guy, but he didn't care. Raditz was going to use the last wish to teleport Tsuno to Planet Vegeta, but Porunga did it himself.

"SPEAK YOUR THIRD WISH!" Porunga commanded.

"Well, I did notice from Kami's Lookout and the Grand Elder's plateau that Namekians seemed to like tall places... so I wish for Tsuno to have a tower befitting a Kami." Raditz told Moori.

After the translation by Moori, the dragon once again granted the wish successfully. When all three wishes were granted, the dragon vanished and the sky returned to normal. The Dragon Balls floated into the sky and scattered in different directions all over the planet.

"Ok, now that the wishes are out of the way. We can prepare for the arrival of Frieza." Raditz said.
