Dragons Among Heroes

As the trio crept up the stairs Devin decided to add some surprises for later. Devin searched through the explosives till he found a half dozen proximity mines. Placing them at specific spots on the stairwell so that they wouldn't be noticed, he placed them but didn't arm them so that they can be saved for later. Cracking open the door to the second level found yet another corridor lined with doors.

'Why do all evil lairs seem too be long corridors filled with doors?' Devin thought as the three stepped in with weapons drawn. Devin had his dagger in a reverse grip and his pistol drawn. T'Challa had his claws ready and Okoye had a dagger of her own ready.

Each room was filled various pieces of equipment or other items. Another room had another rack like the one that Devin had found below with the vibranium in it, but this one was completely empty. Another room had a set up similar to an operating room with the surgical table and equipment. After searching each room and finding nothing they followed the corridor till they reached the end and that was connected to an adjacent hall with one singular door at the end.

"This has got to be the room." Devin muttered as the other two nodded. Counting down from three Devin opened the door just enough for them all to slip through unnoticed. The room was dim with only the light from numerous monitors illuminating the faces of the numerous men standing and watching the massive screen on the wall that showed footage of the capital as well as all the damage done. Devin could see Creed standing near the front and next was Klaue and what looked like a woman in a billowing black cloak. There were also several dozen men either doing things on nearby consoles or watching the same video feed of the capital as the others.

"Once we have the vibranium then I can uphold my end of the deal with you guys as well as much, much more. Haha!" Klaue boomed as he then turned and looked at Sabretooth and the cloaked lady.

"See that you do. My organization is expecting you to deliver on what you promised. If you don't then they wont let you off easily." the chilling voice of the woman came out.

"I will, I will. Things have gone off without a hitch so far. Just a little longer and we'll all have what we want." Klaue said as he turned back to the monitor.

"Not me, I want that brat that sliced my arm. I'm not leaving here without him!" snarled Sabretooth as he continued to flex his hand that had been disconnected from him not too long ago.

"Relax my savage friend. Even I'm not sure if you'll get to meet him again. Isn't that right N'Balli?" Klaue asked as another man stepped closer from nearby. This must be the secretary that Devin had been told about by T'Challa.

"Yes sir. I have personally checked on the situation with the man that came to warn the council of our plans and he was imprisoned till the safe return of the king and his daughter. Though I did have to take care of one of the servants as she saw me eavesdropping on the meeting when I should have been working." N'Balli said in a relaxed manner that didn't show that he was talking about the fact that he had killed a person, but rather that he was maybe speaking about the weather or what he might have for lunch.

"Damn it!" Sabretooth growled as his fist smacked loudly into his palm in agitation. Devin hearing this looked at T'Challa and nodded his head.

"What do we do?" whispered T'Challa asked as he looked at the man that had caused all of the problems that they were currently facing.

"We need to find the controls for the cell first and foremost. Then we can worry about this lot." Devin replied just as quietly. The other two nodded before they split up and began checking consoles here and there to see if they could spot the controls. A minute later Devin and T'Challa saw Okoye wave her hand at them quickly before dropping it so as not to be seen. The two men slowly moved over to her to not cause any sound and attract attention. Soon the three saw a panel that had a row of monitors and panels filled with switches. There were only to monitors lit up at that time. One showed the room where the cell was while the other showed the room where the vibranium was being kept on the rack Devin had found.

'Thankfully they were all so preoccupied with what was happening in the capital to not pay attention to the monitors, but where are Klaue's men?' Devin thought as he hit the switch labeled open next to the cell monitor. He saw that the cell door popped slightly ajar and the two dora milaje had ran over and collected the King and princess before ushering them from the cell. He then turned off the monitors just in case. As Devin motioned for the two Wakandans to head for the door a loud sniffing could be heard now and Devin knew that what would happen next.

"Mmm, we have guests." Devin heard Sabretooth sneer from across the room.

'Well shit.' Devin thought as he froze where he was. Devin's mind was running a mile a minute as he tried to figure out how to get them out of there.

"Come on out now!" Sabretooth demanded. Devin nodded his head in the direction of the door while holding up three fingers and a flashbang grenade that he pulled from his inventory. T'Challa and Okoye both nodded in acceptance as Devin started to countdown from three.

"Either you come out of hiding or I'll drag you out, piece by piece." Sabretooth threatened as Devin heard more than a few people shuffling around from the other side of the room. On the count of one Devin pulled the pin and lobbed the grenade up and over the the machine he was behind. As soon as the thunderous bang went off the two Wakandans sprinted for the door and got out with Devin right behind. Devin channeled enough fire magic into his hand to fuse the metal of the handle and lock so the door wouldn't open.

Upon reaching the door to the stairwell, the trio found that the King and the Princess were already at the top of the stairs and headed through the door. A shout of surprise and warning followed as Devin turned for the stairs leading down instead of the ones leading to the surface.

"Where are you going?!" Okoye and T'Challa shouted after Devin. Devin stopped at the bottom and armed the first mine. As he started back towards the top of the stairs he was arming each of the mines though not moving too quickly after arming them. As he got back to the second floor he could hear the door he had sealed being torn open finally. As he headed for the top Devin placed a couple more armed mines before reaching the top. The sound of pounding feet coming up the stairs as well as the clanging sound of the elevator hinted to Devin that right now might be a good time to run for it.

"Shit, shit, shit!" Devin repeated as he ran for the entrance as the first explosion rocked the underground structure. Devin made it through the door as the explosions continued and then headed for the cavemouth. After getting out of the cave Devin found that the SUV that they had brought with them was gone and only T'Challa and Okoye were standing in the clearing outside, fully armed and ready for a fight.

"What are those explosions?" T'Challa asked as Devin caught up to them.

"I left a few surprises to help whittle down the small fry though I somehow doubt that Klaue, Creed, and the mystery lady are actually dead down there." Devin said as he regained his breath.

"And you'd be right." came the voice of Klaue from on top of the cliff that the cave was carved into. "Sigh, it's never that easy." Devin muttered under his breath as he turned and looked to see the three from earlier standing on the ledge of the cliff.
