Lila stammered as she greeted him. This reflected how nervous she felt. When it comes to anything regarding Kiryu, she is unable to remain calm. Even a simple phone call like this.

"Mmmm, hey."

"Did you wake up just now?" Lila asked she noticed his groggy tone.

"Yeah, I was taking a nap on the roof. When I heard the peddlers come. I'm looking at the stalls now."

"Ah, they came to this year."

"There are some interesting things here. So, I called you wondering what color you'd like?"

Lila blinked, before bursting into laughter. "You're silly my Kiryu."

"Gee, there are loads of colors available. Though the silver and purple one looks the best."

Lila immediately decided. "I want a silver one!"

Though she can't see what he's buying, she trusts her Kiryus good judgment. Her gaze softened, like this. It feels like nothing has changed.

"So, my Kiryu you have made no good female friends?" Lila inquired.

"I haven't."

"How come?"

"Because my pretty wife would get jealous." he heard crashing at that and laughed. Silly girl. Kiryu continued, "While, I don't mind seeing her cry. If I'm not there, I'd rather she doesn't show it to anyone."

"My Kiryu, you're acting so arrogant now. Since when were you like that?" Lila questioned.

Arrogant, huh? He can see it now, Lila puffing her cheeks up, pouting. Pfft.

"A long time ago, there was a hero type girl who would protect me, despite having a weak body. She would defend me until her body broke down. She always helped me, but I could do nothing for her in return. After accomplishing her long-time dream since childhood, she had to set off on a journey. So, I could never tell her the full extent of my feelings."

"M—me?" Lila stammered.

Kiryu doesn't respond but doesn't deny it and continued.

"That's why I decided, the next time we met, I would protect her and before I knew it. I became like this, a kind fool. It's because of her that I'm the way I am now. Understood?"

Kiryu nodded and took his phone out.

How on earth did Hamano take so many without her noticing---Kiryu paused at one photo, the girl was fast asleep on a desk, and her notebook was out? Recognizing the book, he understood that she was writing about him. Next photos show Lila gradually waking up and then the last one. A blushing and cute Lila flicked one page.
