Dream System Of Seven Sins

Chapter 16 - Ye of Little Faith (4)

When Eevie stepped over the threshold, it felt like she was stepping over a thin film that gave little resistance, like walking through a wall of gossamer web.

It was like a completely different world inside, a world of darkness to be precise. The film that Eevie felt seemed to block all light from the lobby and inky darkness filled her vision.

There was no way to tell what was in it. "Why is this place so dark?" Eevie thought to herself.

"It is so that the audience can focus on the talent on stage,"/"...and it is easier for the audience to fall asleep without tipping off the talent-less hacks performing."

Eevie turned around to see Sock and Buskin enter after her. Their suit melted into the darkness, giving them the appearance of two white masks floating in the dark.

"Then how am I going to find my seat?" Eevie asked.

Sock answered in a manic glee, "With a trip of course." After that, Eevie heard a grunt from behind her and a flash of white flew past her from her right.

Eevie then turned to see Buskin tumbling down what appeared to be a flight of stairs, groaning with pain every other step.

Eventually he stopped at what Eevie assumed to be the lowest level.

However, he had gone so still that Eevie thought it was only a mask and Buskin had only been making the sound effect all along.

Suddenly, Eevie felt someone grab her left hand and Sock's cheery voice saying, "Right this way, watch your step."

Sock pulled her forward and Eevie descended the stairs carefully, using her feet to feel out the steps. It felt like the stairs were carpeted as well.

When they reached Buskin's level, Sock retracted his hand. When Eevie was about to turn to ask him what's wrong, she heard Buskin g.r.o.a.n.e.d audibly, "I was hoping for that fall to finally kill me, alas... woe is me."

She was distracted enough to not have realized Sock had disappeared. Buskin stood up and pulled on her right hand, he grumbled, "Right this way, watch your step."

He pulled her along deeped into the darkness until he stopped and said, "The seat's right in front of you, this way at least you'll be comfortable even if you're bored."

Eevie felt in the dark until her hands found the comfortable cushion.

When she sat down, Buskin said in melancholic voice, "Enjoy the show."

He then pulled off his mask the reveal the mask of Sock who then added in an excited chirp, "I'm sure you'll have a good time."

After that, he pulled off his mask and nothing remained.

They/he had completely merged into the darkness. Eevie couldn't even feel his/their presence anymore.
