New Class

“Hey, you two!” the blonde elf snapped, stunning Erix and Lucius. “Follow me!”

The two young men followed the beautiful elf through the lobby and turned left down a long corridor until they reached a massive door. Strange but unique symbols were carved into each door leaf. The door handle was a statue of a dragon with wings made of gold. The beautiful elf opened the door.

Behind the door was a room that was dark and eerie. Cold air seeped out, causing Erix to shiver.

“Who goes first?” asked the beautiful elf.

“He does,” Erix quickly pointed at Lucius.

“Alright, you may enter.”

Lucius entered the dark room. A moment after the door closed tightly, a light appeared on the floor and formed a hexagram with magical symbols surrounding it.

The blue light on the hexagram was bright enough to give a dim light to the room and thicken the mystical atmosphere. At the same time, someone came and stopped across the room. Although it was dark, Lucius could sense that the person who came was a young man of his age. He wore glasses, confirming that he was someone who read a lot.

“I’m the one who will guide you. Now, step forward and stand in the middle of the symbol!” the young man commanded with a trembling voice.

Lucius walked into the center of the hexagram.

“State your name loudly!” he was told again.

“Lucius Ventus!” He shouted his name firmly.

The light on the hexagram grew brighter. Blue energy surged around it. He had seen this kind of atmosphere often in virtual games, so he appeared unaffected.

“What is your goal in becoming a shensin? Answer loudly!” he was told again.

“To protect my master!” Lucius replied angrily. He was getting annoyed by being ordered around like that. Only his master could yell at him like that.

Suddenly, several clusters of light emerged from the floor and floated in the air. The clusters of light separated into two groups.

The first group entered the hexagram, then churned and transformed into weapon symbols. Sword, bow and arrow, fighter’s gloves, wand, symbol of the one-eyed swirl, and lance. The symbols moved and surrounded Lucius clockwise.

The second group of light clusters remained outside the hexagram and formed other weapon symbols. Two crossed knives, mace and thick book, staff and wizard hat, kunai and shuriken, Yin Yang symbol, and whip symbol. The symbols circled Lucius counterclockwise.

“I will explain some things to you,” the young man said. “Each weapon symbol represents a class that you will choose. The hexagram consists of the Swordman class with the sword symbol, Scout for the bow and arrow, Fighter for the fist symbol, Cleric for the wand, Spirit Dancer for the one-eyed swirl symbol, and Lancer for the lance. The symbols outside the hexagram are special classes. You must go to a certain place or study with a group to learn them. Thief for the two crossed knife symbol, Priest for the mace and bible symbol, Druid for the staff and wizard hat symbol, Ninja for the kunai and shuriken symbol, Monk for the Yin Yang symbol, and finally, Monster Trainer for the whip symbol. You can only choose one class from all the available classes. So, which class will you choose?”

Lucius was silent. He was trying to decide which class to choose, but he couldn’t seem to find one that he really liked. He could use a sword, he could shoot a bow, and he was skilled in self-defense techniques. But when it came to choosing a class, he was at a loss.

He knew he didn’t want to pick a class that was outside of the hexagram. As the guide explained, he would have to apprentice in order to fight. Of course, that would take a lot of time. But what harm was there in asking? “Where can I learn about these classes?”

“I’ll write you a letter of recommendation and you’ll need to go to the places I designate. I’ll let you know what those places are,” the guide replied.

Lucius remained silent, but a simple thought entered his mind. “Whatever I choose, I will use it to protect my master.”

Just as he was about to choose one of the classes that had been circling him, a bright white light suddenly radiated from his body. He looked confused as to what was happening to him. The light continued to shine, then shrank to his chest. But it didn’t stop there, the light emerged to form a ball of light and floated above his head.

“T-t-that… l-light…” The young man in front of Lucius looked startled. Lucius was a bit curious about the reaction of the bespectacled man.

Slowly, the light began to flicker and form a symbol of a Contender pistol crossed with a Revolver pistol. Lucius just stared at the symbol that came out of his body with wonder.

“A new class…what class is it?” The man looked more panicked than ever. He had just witnessed a rare phenomenon of a new class appearing that was almost impossible to see. “Who are you?”

“What does this mean? Can you explain it to me?” Lucius asked, still bewildered. There shouldn’t be a pistol-like weapon in this world, but the symbol of the crossed pistols emerged from his body.

“As I said before, the symbols that surround you are the class symbols that shensins usually choose for their fighting classes. Now a new class has appeared that has never been seen before. And you are the one who brings it.” the guide explained. “I don’t even know what class it is. This is the first time I’ve seen a symbol like this.”

Lucius understood the guide’s explanation. Essentially, the new class was born from within him. “Gunslinger.”

“Gunslinger?”

“That’s the name of the class, Gunslinger,” Lucius replied firmly. “I choose that class.”

“You named it Gunslinger, very well.”

Lucius had made his choice. He chose the class that emerged from within himself, Gunslinger. Then the hexagram on the floor shrank to Lucius’ feet and disappeared. At the same time, a star image appeared on the back of his right hand. But the image was empty in the middle.

“What is this?” Lucius asked, showing the star.

“Shensin level. The stronger you are, the more the star will fill up and increase until level five, the maximum limit,” the guide explained. “Thank you for your participation, registration is complete. Welcome, new shensin.”

Feeling that his business was finished, he left the room. Erix immediately approached him and bombarded him with various questions. But Lucius didn’t have time to answer him because the beautiful elf told Erix to hurry into the registration room.

As soon as he entered the room, it was clear that it was just as dark as when Lucius had been there. But then, suddenly, light appeared on the floor, forming a hexagram with magical symbols. The same person emerged from the front and instructed him to stand in the center of the hexagram.

When Erix stated his name, a burst of light illuminated the previously dark room, instantly dispelling the mystical atmosphere. The large space was now clearly visible, with Erix’s body emitting an extremely bright light that made it difficult to look directly at him.

“What is going on with this guy…?” The guide kept covering his eyes with his hands, unable to bear the intensity of the light.

Erix stood silently, watching his body shine brighter than a 100-lumen light bulb.
