Eagle’s Glory

Chapter 54: 54. Expectation

"Austria is your best destination now, I believe you can recognize this."

After speaking, His Majesty the Emperor quietly looked at the young man and observed his reaction.

Of course Aigron knew that it was impossible for him to refute his grandfather's words in person; however, if he immediately showed a grateful attitude, it seemed very suspicious, so he just sat blankly without making any reply.

Seeing Aegron behave like this, Teresa was a little nervous, for fear that His Majesty the Emperor would be angry, so she hurriedly opened her mouth to smooth things out.

"Your Majesty, what you are saying is a fact that everyone sees. Your Highness once said that you and Austria are kind to him." She deliberately intercepted only half of Aegron's words in order to make His Majesty the Emperor happy, "Only However, I think... if he is kept out of contact with the outside world, anyone will feel uncomfortable, right? So I think, as His Royal Highness grows up, it is best to let him go out to see more, so that he can be more comfortable with it. Our Austrian feelings have grown deeper..."

"Of course you're talking about human nature." His Majesty the Emperor nodded, "Before Franz was too young to have too much contact with the outside world, and I was worried that people who hated his father would seek revenge from him, and I didn't want to. Let him walk around the outside world; but now, that he is almost of age, and the hatred of Napoleon has subsided, you may indeed consider your proposal."

His Majesty the Emperor is not just an empty promise. After all, as Aegron is getting closer to adulthood, "what to do with Napoleon's son" has indeed become a thorny issue.

Of course, Austria needs to hold him in his hands as a tool, but at the same time, it is impossible to treat him as a prisoner. A prisoner full of hatred and anger cannot be completely submissive to Austrian interests, and will attract extreme support from Napoleon's supporters. Disgusted, and in the end can't use them at all.

- What's more, he is still a member of the royal family in name, enjoys his own title, and deserves the treatment he deserves, even if he pretends to be.

But at the same time, if he has a certain amount of power and influence, how to ensure his loyalty?

Judging from the observation of the past ten years, his grandson is talented and strong, and if he can be used, it will indeed benefit the country, but if he is resentful, he may be able to cause huge damage.

The dilemma has troubled the Emperor and his Prime Minister several times.

In the end, Prime Minister Metternich suggested that the problem should be solved by the traditional method of marriage - even if Duke Reichstedt himself was of dubious loyalty, his children would eventually integrate into the Austrian royal family and achieve their goals.

Judging from the current situation, the progress of this plan is quite smooth. Theresa has no obvious resistance, and his grandson does not seem to be dissatisfied with it.

"Then... If I invite His Royal Highness to visit our family's manor, do you agree?" Seeing His Majesty the Emperor let go, Teresa pretended to have a whim and made a request, "There are too many people here, and they seem to be interested in our Things are full of curiosity, I just feel that I have been stared at by a large group of people, and I can't be happy at all..."

She knew that after saying those words just now, His Majesty the Emperor could not change his mouth and refuse even if he was unhappy. So I had an idea and took the risk of asking myself.

Under her uneasy gaze, His Majesty the Emperor thought for a moment, then nodded lightly.

"Sure, and I hope you have fun, boys."

Then, he turned his head to look at Aigron. "Franz, don't you thank Teresa yet?"

"Thank you, Teresa." Agron came back to his senses and quickly thanked her, "I am honored to visit the Duke Carl family."

"I think my mother would be very happy to receive you, but she might be troubled by how to make the meal suit your taste." Teresa replied with a smile, "I have to say, Your Highness, you are every one of you. Mothers want their children to grow up like..."

This timely compliment caused the three present to laugh at the same time.

"Teresa, you are really a clever little ghost. I think you will be a good wife when you grow up." His Majesty the Emperor laughed for a while,

"Your Majesty, I don't quite understand what you are saying..." Teresa blinked and replied with a bewildered face. "I'm just asking friends to come over. Even in the royal family, this shouldn't be a taboo."

"Okay, you're all right." His Majesty the Emperor spread his hands and stopped arguing with Teresa. He looked at the young man again. "You see, young man, this is the kindness that Teresa and I gave you, and the kindness that Austria gave you... If you become an Austrian, these kindnesses will make you extraordinary."

"I saw it, and I'm very grateful." Aigron had already figured out how to deal with it. He looked at the two people on the opposite side with a respectful and touching gaze, and then made a sincere promise, "If one day I have the opportunity I will gladly serve Austria, Your Majesty. Time changes many things, but you will always be my maternal grandfather, and I would like to pray to God with sincerity for good health and long life."

"Very good, maybe this is the best solution." Perhaps moved by his reaction, His Majesty the Emperor nodded lightly, "I hope we all have no regrets in the end."

Then, he blinked wearily, then waved. "Okay, it's very late, I need to rest, you guys should go back and rest early."

"Goodbye, Your Majesty." The boy and the girl stood up at the same time and respectfully bid farewell to His Majesty the Emperor.

Then, the two of them walked out of the room together, and the attendant who was waiting outside the door also walked in immediately.

The two people, who were not paying attention for a while, looked at each other.

"Aigron, Your Majesty is good at talking." Teresa laughed. "I'm still going to argue a few times, but I didn't expect him to agree so readily..."

"Teresa, thank you so much for helping me so much." Aegron expressed his gratitude again, "I will repay you if I have the chance."

After a pause, he spoke again, "I didn't expect you to speak so well. When we first met, I thought you were not good at communicating with people."

"Shyness and dullness are two different things, Your Highness," Teresa replied in a low voice. "I just don't want to waste time with those mediocre people. Of course, you should be treated differently."

"Then, you are also worth it." Aegron replied with a smile. "To be honest, you are quite cute when you smile. If Ken laughed more, I don't think anyone would be dissatisfied with you again."

Theresa seemed to be speechless for a moment, until a moment later she sighed suddenly and solemnly.

"However, there are not so many things in the world that deserve a smile."

While the two were chatting happily, a female official hurriedly walked to the side of the two.

"Your Highness, are you free?" She saluted Aegron and whispered, "Your Majesty the Queen wants to delay your time."

Aegron was a little surprised. After a moment of silence, he looked at Teresa.

Teresa, who was interrupted to talk, frowned slightly, but quickly concealed her dissatisfaction.

"It's okay, it's getting late, we've talked enough now." Then, she waved goodbye to Aegron, "Good night, Your Highness."

"Good night, Teresa." Agron also nodded to her, then turned and followed the female officer out of the living room.

They walked up the stairs to the balcony on the second floor.

And Her Majesty Queen Caroline was standing alone on the balcony, overlooking the countryside under the moonlight.

Although she is the queen of the empire, she is only 34 years old now. She is the fourth wife of His Majesty the Emperor and the sister of Princess Sophie.

She had married to Austria from Bavaria in 1816, exactly two years after Aiglon.

She usually doesn't talk much, but she has a very good temper and is quite friendly to herself. She was very caring when she was a child.

"Your Majesty, good evening." Aegron respectfully saluted her back. "May I ask you to call me, what's the matter?"

Her Majesty the Queen turned around and looked at the boy, "Franz, how did you feel when you were with Teresa?"

This question surprised Aegron a bit.

"Just tell the truth." Her Majesty the Queen smiled.

"It's very pleasant to get along with." Aegron replied.

"Well, seeing her so happy, it should be like this." Her Majesty the Queen nodded.

Then, she looked back at the dark forest in the distance, and said softly, "This time, we didn't bring Sophie here. And I deliberately didn't let Sophie go with me, Franz."

Aigron suddenly didn't know how to answer

Her Majesty the Queen said gently, "She is my sister, of course I have to take care of her, so because of this, I can't bring her here, because I'm afraid she will go mad when she sees the scene just now— Should you know why?"

This questioning made Aegron even more unable to speak.

"She likes you, and she likes you to the point of not being afraid of people's words. I don't know why, but since she wants this, then I won't say anything more." Her Majesty the Queen turned around again, and gently said to her. He blinked, "Sometimes she will secretly ask me to help you for whatever convenience you want. As long as I can do it, I will help."

... Aigron seemed to suddenly understand something.

I see.

Just when he wanted to say something, Her Majesty the Queen made a gesture to signal him to continue listening.

"Unfortunately, His Majesty the Emperor wants to promote this marriage, and His Majesty's will cannot be violated. Although I have worked hard, everything is nothing but futile. This is not Teresa's fault, and it will be the same for other people. In the end, it can only be said that God's will has made your situation doomed to be unable to perpetuate the dream. It's very painful, even hateful, that's her character, and I just hope everything will settle down in the end."

She sighed softly,

"So, I think... if you want to make any memories, you'd better do it as soon as possible... while the good things are still lingering."

"Your Majesty?" Agron's expression changed suddenly, he couldn't make out what he heard. "You...you mean...?"

"Have I said anything?" Her Majesty's expression became cold and serious again, "Okay, it's getting late, you can go back. Good night."
