Chapter 20

I was back at the Shield HQ and was monitoring the progress of the Insight carriers. A few lead engineers tried to shoe me off but they lacked the balls to even talk to me. That leads me to the current situation, being called to the Councilman Peirce office.

"Hello, Electro. I don't believe we have met before." He said and gestured me to take a seat.

"Councilman, that is correct." I said with a nod.

"Electro, it has been brought to my attention that you have been running Shield ops for a few days now. There have been quiet a few complaints that have been piling up." He said and brought up a few slides on the wall behind him.

"Yet, Shield is running effectively and efficiently despite that." I said and Peirce narrowed his eyes at me.

"That may be so, however there are protocols that need to be followed here. Leadership of ship cannot be in the hand of a masked vigilante." Peirce said and stood up. "I am assigning you to the Dakota base, surely a person of your capabilities will be able to handle it."

"I decline the offer. I am needed here and you don't have the authority to assign me anywhere." I said and stood up.

"Listen here, I am a councilman, I can take away your badge. You will leave this place, else there will be severe consequences." Peirce yelled punching the table.

"Yeah, good luck with that. Call me after you have convinced the international council, gotten a order from our president and found a proper replacement with my clearance." I said and stood up. "Oh, yeah. Maria Hill is missing, Colson has been demoted, and let me guess Steve is a criminal."

"You are making enemies you can't afford to fight." He said as I left the room.

For Peirce, that conversation must have been the absolute worst outcome possible. He tried to sideline me but couldn't, he tried to threaten me and failed miserably. Now, I can be a real pain in his a.s.s. With that said and done, I headed to the Carriers and began to pointed out a few work safety violations and shut down the construction for a day. I messaged Fury and he was finally relaxed after I confirmed that I had bought one more day. It was evening when TACT and Jarvis had finally compiled a list of every Hydra agent in the US. The numbers were huge but if we played this right, tomorrow we will have the first mass arrests of this scale in History of America. 11,426 men and woman were confirmed Hydra agents. I immediately asked Fury to pull Tony into this but for some reason he was against it.

"Tell me one good reason why we should keep Tony away from this." I asked and Fury sighed.

"He is a loose cannon and will bring uncertainty to this." He said.

"Yeah, we are arresting nearly 12000 people tomorrow. That is a lot of uncertainty already." I said and bugged him till he agreed.

Tony was extremely excited and said rushed here in mere minutes.

"Nick, I told you. I called it." Tony immediately began to gloat and this caused more pain to Fury than actually being shot.

"Tony, we need to be serious about this." Steve said.

"Yes, I am already having my suits in place. They can go for more priority targets like FBI, CIA and Homeland." He said as he began to type away at a hologram keyboard.

"Fury, how are the agencies taking this?" I asked and Fury smirked.

"They are more than happy to help." He said with a smile.

"Why are they so eager to help?" Steve asked and Tony chuckled.

"They finally have a perfect scape goat to pin all their failures on." Tony said and Fury nodded.

"Natasha, you are up." Hill said and Natasha headed out to the Shield HQ.

We waited as all the force were getting into position. It was a 12 hour wait to be exact and by the time only 2 hours remained on the clock. Tony, had also called in Rhodey and they planned to take out all the air forces as we disabled the Insight carriers. We reached the HQ and the hydra goons immediately open fired on Steve. This was also the signal to start the nation wide operation. Each city, had a version of fight where they strategically took out all the men and women rounding them up. What was unexpected was the amount of suicides. Nearly 60% of all the arrested parties immediately ingested a cyanide Pill. These were the priority targets, the one who were supposed to have information that could lead to more arrests. Unfortunately, The ones that were too afraid to off themselves were not exactly well informed.

On the Shield HQ, things were more explosive. They had thrown missiles to suicide bombers at us, which were not really a problem for me because these explosions were nothing compared to what I had faced in both wars i had participated in. When the Winter Soldier showed up, Steve had gotten side lined to save his buddy while Tony had to pick up the slack and enter the codes disabling the Insight carriers. Finally, we were at the Pierce's office. We entered it and i had to catch a few bullets before he surrendered.

"It is over Peirce. Give up and come with us." Natasha said.

"Death before betrayal, Hail Hydra." Peirce said and tried to take the pill in his teeth.

He didn't expect me to literally rip his molar out before any harm happened. While, he was rolling in pain on the floor, Tony and Steve were looking at me in surprised.

"What he was trying to eat a cyanide pill." I said and shook their heads.

"We will rise again." he said and pressed his watch. Before passing out.

"The hell did he do?" Tony yelled and began to analyze the watch.

"He launched a nuke to Russia. Don't worry we need 2 executive access codes to stop it." Fury said walking in from the balcony.

"Did you wait for making that entrance?" Tony asked and looked at Fury in wonder.

"I am just that badass." He said and we held up Peirce to enter the biometrics.

With that the battle was over, or at least we thought but nearly 300 hydra goons had escaped while there was a major disarray in the national security. While, the operation was a huge success, there were still casualties across the board. We had to maintain a semblance of order while trying to round up the escaped idiots. The Shield carriers were used to round up the captured convicts but the process was time consuming and mind numbingly boring. Fury was awarded medals and plaques for his victory but he refused them all claiming that it was his failure. With that Fury, stepped down as the director of Shield and nominated Hill as the new director.

"Natasha, did you get the drives?" I asked her and she nodded.

Them to me and it fried them to a molten mess. That drive was from Fury's personal computer. It had information about Superhero identities and a few other secrets. I had convinced Fury and he allowed it simply because he had failed to guard these.

Maria took up the mantle and immediately began to consolidate the leader ship by making new deals and improving the cash flow and better access to other nations. While, I may have improved the efficiency of the Shield operations due to my micro management abilities, Maria worked on bring Shield above it's current status as an American spy agency. The Shield and The Avengers were going to now be sanctioned by the UN. However, the actual assignments can be a bit of a political game, so we are basically autonomous group, under UN. That doesn't really make much sense and that is exaxtly is what it is. Un can propose a mission and they can technically stop us from doing something, however due to the sheer nature of our group, Enforcement of orders is problem. There were concerns about this in the military but those voices were ignored.

Fury, despite giving up the director seat, still hung around the HQ bossing everyone, but the moment a problem propped up, he would direct it straight to Hill. Maria Hill was a badass, a hero but she was now drowning in paperwork. I helped her as much as I could but rebuilding Shield to what it was or what it was supposed to be came at a price, a shit ton of paper work. She would openly curse at Fury every chance she gets and Fury would laugh at her. It was a hilarious exchange and I happened to be the first one to witness it. At the Queens base thing were a little more awkward.

Fiore and I realized that regardless of the circ.u.mstances, the was a spark between us. I was concerned because of my lack of experience and how s.e.x would work with me being all electric. Fiore seemed a little too proud or shy and kept avoiding me. I had actually wanted to talk to her about the wonderful job she did with the detainment of Hydra goons as they ran from FBI but I didn't really get a chance. We finally stumbled into each other on the way to cafeteria.

"Fiore, we need to talk." I said and she stopped trying to get away.

"There is not much to talk about." She replied putting on a poker face.

"Yes, there is. Now, lets get some food." I said and we grabbed some food and took a seat.

"Fine, what do you want to talk about." Fiore asked as she looked at her food.

"How was your week?" I asked and she looked up at me in surprise.

"it was a good week. TACT has shown me the video games as you call them. I find them quiet interesting." She said.

"Huh, interesting. Ask him about TV next time." I said and we ate in silence for a few minutes. "The arrests you performed the other day were good. A lot of people are appreciative of that." I said.

"Yes, I held back a lot more and this time there were no one without appendages." She said with a nod.

"Yeah, a few of them had their arms or legs amputated because of shattered bones. You will have to get that down some day. Good job none the less." I said. "Also, we almost kissed the other day." I said and she began to choke a piece of lettuce.

"That was too abrupt. Be more delicate with such matters." She said with a red face which was more from choking than embarrassment.

"Next time don't avoid me for weeks." I said.

"There are a lot of things to consider. Maxwell, we can't just be together." Fiore said.

"Then let's just go on a date." I said and she frowned in confusion and pulled up her phone before blushing.

"But isn't it too soon. We barely even know each other." She said blushing up a storm

That made me a bit concerned, the hell did she look up? Roll with it.

"Let's change that. I am Maxwell Dillon, 16 years old, from earth." I said gestured towards her.

"I am Fiore, Princess of Asgard, also 16 years old." Fiore said with a smirk..

"Well, that wasn't too hard was it. We can discover more of each other on dates." I said and she blushed again.

"I will accompany on one date, but don't expect too much." She said and hurried off.

The hell did she look up? I can just ask TACT about it, but I will leave this mystery unsolved. Speaking of mysteries, the UN and the US Supreme Court had finally decided on a date for the public trial which was a week away. This left us plenty of time for preparing for a proper showdown. In essence, this trial was for the general populous of the country to realize that the System was still effective and Just. Maria had assigned about 50 different lawyers along with 10 political advisers and a few social-behavioral scientists to prepare a good show. Natasha and Barton where off somewhere in Russia, looking for the last few Hydra hideouts. Steve was doing his thing which involved mostly training and eating outdoors. Peter was back to being the friendly neighborhood Spider man. While, Tony was out in middle east somewhere. Things were finally looking up and there was a sense of pride that was in the atmosphere.

I on the other hand was managing the Shield missions and helping out Hill whenever she asked. However, it has been two days since I asked Fiore for a date and today was the day. I had gone to the tailor for a suit and it was a beauty to look at. 3000 dollars well spent. Fiore had gotten her new friends to help her find a dress for the occasion and they had picked out a knee length dress with an exposed shoulder. Needless to say, Fiore looked godly in it. She had even used a lipstick. I smiled when I saw her and took her hand. We drove of to a fine Italian restaurant and had a nice meal. She ate a pizza just to clarify but it was, none the less a nice meal.

We talked about a lot of things during the meal, they were mostly embarrassing stories of Loki and Thor while I told her a bit about the Shield funny shenanigans. Like this one time, we had arrested a few undercover agents for drug possession. While she told me about how Loki put an illusion on Thor making it look like he was dressed but the God of thunder was essentially nude for most of the morning till someone actually pointed it out. It was cute and we had a good time.

We finally went to the Central Park for a walk. We took a seat near the pond and sat in silence feeling the tense atmosphere. We finally looked at each other and leaned in for a kiss. Finally, I looked at those beautiful lip and then, the universe decided to f.u.c.k this up again. A portal opened up and Alice walked out, looking tired.

"For f.u.c.ks sake." I said and pulled Fiore in for a kiss.

Fiore was surprised but didn't back out. We held the kiss for a few moment until Alice cleared her throat. I held up my finger and continued on for a bit longer before moving away with a smile. Fiore blushed and looked away in embarrassment while I looked at Alice.

"Hurry up, lover boy." Alice said and she turned around.

"Fiore, looks like our date ended rather abruptly, we need to do this again." I said and she nodded.

"Fine. However, let me come with your to whatever this is." She said standing up.

"An Asgardian can help out." Alice said and Fiore summoned her armor and her bow.

I really wanted that trick for my self, it was really convenient. A mere moment and you are geared up for war. I shrugged and followed Alice through the portal to London Sanctum. I looked around a saw another few Sorcerers waiting to be addressed. Alice walked in front of us and cast a projection.

"I had been assigned to look into the disappearance of an artifact the heart of Tarrasque, an item of great power. It had been lost during the Convergence but I have found it on a far away planet. Things have become complicated as it has found a host. A local species of crocodile like creature but with much greater defense and rock like skin." She said and showed us the creature.

It was really like a crocodile but with longer and stronger legs for faster running and an elongated neck. The next creature she showed us was the same alien but a hundred times larger, and it had long spikes growing from everywhere. All in all, grade A nightmare fuel indeed.

"This is the influence of the artifact, we need to extract it from its body in order to kill the creature." Alice said.

"Wouldn't it be much easier to kill the creature before extracting this artifact?" Fiore asked.

"No, the artifact imbues the owner with massive regeneration, as long as there I even a drop of blood, the creature will be undying." Alice said.

We all nodded at each other before Alice opened a portal to the planet. I immediately noticed the gravity, it was a bit stronger than earth and the atmosphere was thicker and smelled different. We walked for few miles and found the trail of foot prints left behind by the creature. I let out Frost for a bit of experience and he immediately darted away into the distance. I smiled and shook my head at his actions, while the fellow sorcerers were surprised by a sudden Frost Wraith.

We arrived at the hulking form of the giant space lizard while it slept and Fiore immediately began to encase it with wood and vines restricting its moments. Alice and the other two performed a restricting spell. I summoned Abyss and unsheathed the long blade and began to charge it with electricity.

"Maxwell, it's heart will be near it tail. Hurry up." Alice yelled.

That woke the lizard up and it began to strain the bindings. I swung at it tail and it was cleanly cut of revealing a huge beating heart. The wave of energy kept going despite serving its purpose, it was really a good decision to not test this blade on earth. I sped up and cut the heart out and watched it transform into a red veiny orb with a pulse. I suppressed by disgust and kept in inside my pouch. I looked back at the lizard and watched in wonder as it's heart and tail grew back.

"Attack." Alice yelled and the lizard was destroyed in an instant.

From what I could see, the Three wizards preformed 3 different spells for a combination of explosion, heat and a barrier. The first two spell were purely destructive while the last one limited that destruction in a barrier. I was amazed at the teamwork and watched in wondered as the Frost charged out of nowhere and began to eat the remains of the space lizard. I handed the artifact back to Alice and she opened a portal back to London sanctum. I declined and waited for Frost to finish his meal while Fiore and I stood still.

"So, how was the date?" I asked.

"I don't know. It was quite different from what I expected. I have to ask if fighting monsters is part of a dating." She said and sighed. "Human culture is strange and primitive. In Asgard, fighting misters in no longer considered part of a courtship."

Wow, so Asgard at some point had a part that was dedicated to fighting monsters in their romantic culture? And does she really think human do this normally on dates? Seriously, the f.u.c.k did she read?

"Did you enjoy our date?" I asked and she nodded with a smile.

I didn't know when I had begun to smile but that smile stayed with me as we went back home.
