Emperor Of Spirits

Chapter 6 - After the Calamity

"Hey, do you mind if I communicate with your Jade Serpent for a few moments?" Xiao Tian suddenly asked her.

"She can't speak at all, much less the human language, you know?" Song Yu looked at him with lifted brows.

Although Spirits are able to understand the human tongue, most of them cannot use it for themselves. In fact, only very intelligent or certain special Spirits have the ability to talk.

With that being said, some Spirits communicate with their Masters mentally in their heads, but this is something that can only be achieved between the Master and their Spirit.

"I have my ways," said Xiao Tian.

"So may I?" he asked again.

"Go ahead. I want to see how you are going to communicate with my Spirit, anyway."

After getting Song Yu's approval, Xiao Tian proceeded to press his forehead against the Jade Serpent's forehead and closed his eyes.

The Jade Serpent did not seem to mind at all and remained unmoving.

A few seconds later, a faint glowing light could be seen at the spot between Xiao Tian and the Jade Serpent's forehead.

"What is that light between their foreheads? What is he doing?" Song Yu watched them with an intensive stare.

"Can you hear me?"

Xiao Tian's voice suddenly resounded in the Jade Serpent's head.

"Yes, Your Majesty."

A clear and sweet female voice resounded in Xiao Tian's head almost instantly.

"Good. I know you have many questions regarding my existence right now, but unfortunately, I have no answers. In fact, I am hoping that you may know something. Can you tell me what happened in the Spirit Realm after the calamity had passed?"

"After Your Majesty's death, the Spirit Realm was in disorder. The powerful and evil Spirits tried to take Your Majesty's throne during the chaos, but the Holy Spirits fought back and protected it. A war between the powerful Spirits eventually broke out, only calming down thousands of years later when one of the newer Holy Spirits decided to become the new Emperor of Spirits."

Xiao Tian quickly absorbed all of this new information before asking, "Is this new Emperor of Spirits still alive?"

"No, Your Majesty. It has been countless years since then, and we are currently at our 99th Emperor of Spirits."

"That many?! Good heavens, how long has passed since I died?" Xiao Tian couldn't help but feel shocked.

"How are the new Emperors of Spirits chosen? And what happened to the previous Emperors?" he then asked.

"The second Emperor of Spirits made it so that anyone could challenge the current Emperor for their throne with some conditions that this one is unaware of. As for the previous Emperor of Spirits, most of them have died protecting their seat on the throne."

Xiao Tian was speechless. What on earth happened to the peaceful Spirit Realm that he once knew and loved?

"The Spirit Realm must be quite chaotic even now, right?"

"Although the majority of things have calmed down and returned to normal, there is still some tension amongst the higher Spirits, especially those that d.e.s.i.r.e for the throne."

"Is there anything else?"

"No, Your Majesty. This is the extent of this lowly one's knowledge."

After a moment of silence, Xiao Tian said, "I understand. Thank you for all this information. I will speak with you another time — after I digest everything that I have learned today."

"This lowly one is unworthy of such gratitude."

Although countless years have passed and many new Emperor of Spirits have come and gone, the Jade Serpent still respected Xiao Tian as though he was still its Emperor.

Meanwhile, Song Yu continued to watch Xiao Tian and her Jade Serpent, who was only standing there silently in her view.

Of course, she could not hear their conversation, as Xiao Tian was communicating with the Jade Serpent using a spiritual technique that allowed them to communicate through their minds.

This technique allowed Xiao Tian to communicate with Spirits even if they could not speak, and he used it very often when he was still the Emperor of Spirits.

However, because he is not within the Spirit Realm and his cultivation base is still lacking, his range of communication was greatly reduced, hence why he had to get so close to the Jade Serpent.

After their conversation ended, Xiao Tian pulled his forehead away and stepped back from the Jade Serpent.

"What did you do to my Spirit just now?" Song Yu have been itching to ask him for the last few minutes.

"Nothing at all," he calmly said.

And he continued, "Anyway, I will be leaving now."

"W-Wait… you can't leave me now! I still have a lot of things to ask you!"

However, Xiao Tian ignored her and quickly left the room.

"..."

Song Yu remained standing there even many moments after Xiao Tian left. Although it was subtle, she noticed exhaustion from his expression right before he disappeared.

Sometime later, Song Yu unsummoned her Jade Serpent and returned to her family's side.

"That was quite a fast return. Did you not manage to find him?"

Her father asked her upon her return.

"No, I found him," she replied in an unsatisfied tone.

"Did my son do something that has displeased the young lady? I will strictly discipline him afterward if that's the case," Xiao Long spoke with a serious expression.

"It's nothing like that," said Song Yu.

Although she did feel slightly irritated by Xiao Tian's nonchalant attitude towards her, it also made her more interested in him. However, the thing that about Xiao Tian that intrigued her the most was the mysterious aura that surrounded him.

Even though he's clearly a child, something about him made it impossible for her to see him as a mere kid.

"He's an interesting fellow. It's a pity that our conversation had ended so fast."

"Interesting, huh?" Song Wei showed a slight smile and said, "We are staying here for dinner, so there will be more chances to speak with him later."

"..."

Xiao Min looked at Song Yu with slightly wide eyes. She couldn't believe that Xiao Tian had actually managed to grab some attention from the Song Clan — their youngest daughter, no less.

Meanwhile, the other children of the Xiao Family couldn't help but feel envious towards Xiao Tian, even some anger, as they felt that it was unfair of them, who has been acting elegant and respectful this whole time, to lose to an unruly brat like Xiao Tian.
