Epic Strength System

Chapter 4 - Escaping

"Yao'er!" A youthful voice cried out in surprise, "There you are!"

A young teen came out of the thicket in a faint blur of speed. Zheng Yi was surprised by how fast this 'big bro' was! He looked no older than 15, yet was fast enough that he could only barely see his moving image with his eyes! Zheng Yi wasn't one to know directly how gruesome cultivating ones quanli to such a point at a young age since he hadn't one himself, but it didn't take a scholar to tell him that this kid was a genius.

Wang Yao cried out in happiness as her 'Big Bro' whooshed quickly over to their position. Though the same couldn't be said for Wang Fan, the said elder brother of Wang Yao, who looked up suspiciously at Zheng Yi.

"Who are yo-" Wang Fan was about to interrogate when his little sister interrupted.

"Big Bro! Don't be rude!" She interjected with a red and embarrassed face, eyes darting back and forth from Zheng Yi.

"This is the hero who saved me!"

"He saved you?!" Wang Fan's eyebrows raised, turning to Zheng Yi still with suspicion in his eyes.

"Un! When that mummy almost got me, he appeared! It was so cool! He went like this... and 'boom!' Then he punched it and the ground started shaking a bit! Then the mummy when 'Whoom!' then crashed through the trees over there!" Wang Yao seemed to forget that the both of them were there and began reenacting Zheng Yi's punch, adding little sound effects as she went along.

Wang Fan looked over to where his sister pointed and saw the collateral damage caused by the mummy's body; multiple trunks destroyed or snapped in half, as well as it's folded form, stuck in the side of some tree. A deep chill went down his spine.

'What kind of strength does it take to do that to a C-Rank monster with one punch?!'

He looked back over to Zheng Yi who was laughing at Wang Yao's visual replay of events, while the latter's face reddened further in embarrassment.

Then a thought occurred to him.

'This senior must definitely be a hero! One above C-Rank at that!'

"You're quanli couldn't be related to sound effects, would it?!" Zheng Yi was asking the little girl, whose face was now blood red when he heard the sounds of hands clapping to the side.

He turned to see the 'Big Bro' of this little girl, clasp his hands and bow to him.

"Wang Fan, soon-to-be hero-in-training thanks this senior hero for saving my sister!"

Zheng Yi was startled.

'Wasn't this kid cautious of me 5 seconds ago?! Where did this come from?' He looked over to where Wang Fan was peering off to earlier and saw the own destruction he had orc.h.e.s.trated.

'A-ahh, so its a misunderstanding...'

He turned back to face the young lad.

"Ah, It was no problem!"

Wang Fan still persisted, "Wang Fan would still like to give his honest thanks!" As he sed so he kneeled and bowed his head to Zheng Yi.

This agitated Zheng Yi for some reason, causing him to speak out. He felt like he didn't deserve such obvious praise and thanks.

"Stand Up!" He bellowed, causing Wang Fan to look up in shock.

"Senior..."

"As a... Hero... it is only my duty to help those in need! I do not need the gratitude of others to fuel my actions! I would do so anyway!"

As he said that, Zheng Yi puffed out his c.h.e.s.t and supported both curved arms at his waist, striking a powerful pose.

"So, raise your head and keep it raised, kid!"

'And please stop looking at me!!!'

Wang Fan felt his heart pound when he heard those words, an indescribable feeling welled up inside his c.h.e.s.t.

'So, this is a hero!'

Through his casual and somewhat messy clothes, Zheng Yi's large and bulky form now seemed omnipresent, and awe-inspiring (still unbeknownst to himself).

Wang Fan stood up with a smile. Zheng Yi nodded, though his head was actually in a disorganized mess.

"I've already called for help at the comm relay, they should be arriving soon! The radio commander there told me it shouldn't be any less than 5 minutes! They're coming directly from the Federation capital's GoH building!"

Both of the kids' eyes glimmered. To Zheng Yi, it was becoming ever so more obvious that both of these siblings idolized heroes a bit above the norm.

"Fantastic!"

Though even Zheng Yi realized how dangerous it was for a bunch of passengers to run about in a forest that could very well contain more monsters, some of whom would be too afraid or traumatized to move out of their hiding spots.

Wang Fan looked respectfully to Zheng Yi.

"Although you may be busy, I know for sure the rescue team might want a word with you!"

"..."

...

It was at this moment that Zheng Yi realized he was still the member of a highly notorious family of supervillains...

'Shit, I can't let them figure out who I really am! They'll capture me and make me spill everything I know!'

Zheng Yi was less concerned about spilling the beans of his family's whereabouts and location than he was about being the subject of the GoH's interrogation methods. Though honestly, he hadn't the slightest clue about them, he wasn't about to go and find out...

He turned to Wang Fan,

"Hmmm, well that is too bad! I am... uh... actually on a mission right now! Thus I sadly cannot comply, young man!"

Wang Fan's expression turned to one of curiosity at first then to one of admiration and understanding.

"Ah! So it was like that!"

"Un. Also..."

Zheng Yi's face darkened as he explained Fire Fist's Circ.u.mstance as well as the location of his body over to the side, not visible unless one looked at an angle. Wang Fan's face paled and his frame shook a bit as he heard of the matter. Zheng Yi asked that the responding GoH members take care with the body, and give him the proper honors.

"It truly is a pity that I cannot even stay to see his body off.... but duty does indeed call!" Zheng Yi felt apprehension at the thought of the incoming rescue force.

"I am off then! Good luck to the both of you! Especially you young Wang Fan! Become a great hero!" Zheng Yi shouted as he turned and began to jog away from the direction of the incoming authorities.

Although this forest was indeed dangerous, it was only a moderately sized uninhabited zone. Nothing in comparisons to those massive spans of uninhabited lands where the larger and more dangerous monsters developed, not to mention, where villains and bandits created their secret lairs and hideouts away from society...

It was already a rare case for monsters such as those mummies to appear. And from the lack of surrounding mountains or hills, they must have escaped from an underground tomb. With luck, the incoming hero rescue squad would be able to find and secure the tomb as well!

Still... Zheng Yi could only shed a tear of remorse, curse his bad luck and proceed deeper into the forest, away from authorities and public transportation...
