"What's eating you? You don't look like you're yourself today?" Lu Tianxin asked Tang Moyu once the latter was done signing the papers she needed for approval. It had been three days since her cousin started acting like this and Lu Tianxin was unable to figure out what seemed to be the problem this time.

"Nothing to worry about, Tianxin. Just a lot of things going on in my mind, but nothing serious." Tang Moyu blandly replied and turned her focus to the numbers on the screen of her computer.

More work was piling up since Xu Wenyang injected more funds for the company to utilize and with the help of Lu Tianxin and Gu Yuyao, Tang Moyu was able to end the deals, one by one, that the previous executive team had entered. The three women were trying their best to minimize the loss by ending those unprofitable projects and deals.

"Are you sure?" Lu Tianxin asked the empress for the last time, but Tang Moyu refused to say what was bothering her.

"I'm fine, Tianxin. I'll be fine. It will be alright."

Since Tang Moyu said she would be fine, Lu Tianxin didn't ask any further. Tang Moyu would have told her if it was a serious matter. Perhaps, it wasn't related at work, which made her even curious.

"Are you sure you aren't planning to tell us what's wrong?" Gu Yuyao, who was sitting across from Tang Moyu, asked as she passed her the preliminary result of her internal audit.

This time, Tang Moyu didn't respond but looked down at the file Lu Tianxin left for her to review.

"Yuyao, why didn't you marry He Lianchen when you had the chance before?" She suddenly asked after a long silence between them.

Gu Yuyao frowned, but considered the empress's question. Why? Perhaps she was young and stupid back then. She was only twenty two at that time, while He Lianchen was twenty-five. She didn't think they were ready to tie the knot. And truth be told, she wasn't ready to settle down too soon either.

In fact even before their break up, she could already sense that He Lianchen wanted to marry her, but he still hadn't finished his law school at that point of time and Gu Yuyao was planning to take her master's degree while working.

When her grandfather's minion came knocking on their door, she immediately fled the country after breaking up with He Lianchen.

"We were both young and everything was overwhelming for me. And of course I know that he was also kicked out by his own family to keep him safe from his crazy brother." Gu Yuyao paused and sighed. "Let's just say that I was'nt ready for commitments and I don't want him to do stupid things because of me."

Knowing his personality, Gu Yuyao was quite sure that He Lianchen would fight tooth on tooth against her grandfather if needed. His career was just flourishing and she didn't want to stall his plans because of her.

"My grandfather is crazy. I don't even understand why he was so desperate to drag me back to Beijing. My parents are dead, as well as my brother. Perhaps he doesn't think that my cousins are good enough to inherit our family business."

Tang Moyu gave it a good thought. The last time she heard about the Gu family was about Gu Yuyao's mother. Since Elder Gu wanted Yuyao back, it would only be a matter of time before they would find her here in Shenzhen.

"But you came back even though you knew he would find you here. Through his connections and associates, I'm sure he would know by now that you are working for Tang Enterprise." Tang Moyu pointed out.

She wasn't expecting Gu Yuyao to volunteer to join Tang Enterprise, but when she mentioned to Gu Yuyao about her need for a new CFO, Yaoyao stepped forward and offered her help.

"Initially, I wasn't planning to stay long here in Shenzhen." Gu Yuyao admitted. "In fact, I only gave myself three months to fix everything before I leave again. I'm also getting tired of running away, but I don't want to meet him as soon as I come back from states."

No, not to soon. Gu Yuyao intended to meet her grandfather after her three months were over. This was why he asked Feng Tianyi to keep it under wraps for three months and delay her meeting with her grandfather.

"And He Lianchen?" Tang Moyu arched a slender brow at her, to which Gu Yuyao responded with a bland smile.

"He's better off without me, Moyu. He doesn't need me in his life. You understand this, right? You rejected Qin Jiran even though it hurt you. You don't feel like you are worthy enough for his attention, that's why you ended it even before it starts, right?"

It was Gu Yuyao's turn to ask Tang Moyu questions. Questions that the empress had been denying herself.

Was she worthy? Tang Moyu wasn't sure herself. Her parents, especially her mother, had made sure she knew that she shouldn't believe in the love of a man, that at the end of the day, she could only be a wife with a purpose for her husband.

'Do not believe in love, Moyu unless you want to experience the pain of betrayal worse than death.' Her mother had once told her.

This belief only strengthened when Feng Tianhua betrayed her and married Xing Yiyue behind her back. From that moment on, Tang Moyu refused to believe in the love of a man. Superficial and fleeting. Hopefully whatever Qin Jiran felt for her would soon be forgotten.

'He will get over it.' She tried to convince herself.

Qin Jiran might be able to change her mind about love, but he wouldn't be able to change her past. Not only did she lose her innocence, she also gave birth to a pair of buns from her drunken mistake. He didn't deserve the trouble she might cause, in case her past returned to haunt her.
