Chapter 9: You Must Stroke the Feathers of a Crane in the Direction They Lie, You Can’t Rub Them the Wrong Way.

He’s running a fever, why are they using an electrocardiogram monitor? Yu He hasn’t fully regained consciousness and stood at the door for a moment in confusion.

Wait, a fever?

Damn it, is Fu Yunzheng running a fever because of him!

Yu He was suddenly startled. The terrifying rumours about Fu Yunzheng echoed in an instant in Yu He’s ears.

Capricious, profound, sinister, ruthless, leaving his enemies no way out…

Although Fu Yunzheng has not yet shown a terrible side to Yu He, perhaps it is because Yu He served him well last night?

But if he’s sick now, that’s another story.

Yu He rubbed his face, and in order to prevent himself from dying inexplicably, he decided to first find out about Fu Yunzheng’s attitude.

In the corridor, people came and went, and no one noticed him. He thought he had secretly sneaked into Fu Yunzheng’s room.

In the bedroom, two doctors in white coats stood by the bed, while Zhang Shan stood at the foot of the bed.

Fu Yunzheng lay flat on the bed, already connected to a heart and lung monitor, with a breathing mask attached to his mouth and nose.

“No way, is it that serious?”

Fu Yunzheng obviously didn’t like the breathing mask. With his eyebrows slightly furrowed, he used one hand to pull the elastic band of the mask down, revealing his nose.

An attendant who was adjusting the monitoring equipment happened to turn around and saw the mask slip off, so she reached over and put it back on.

After the mask was put back on, Fu Yunzheng’s brows furrowed even deeper. He had deep features and a high nose bridge, and the plastic edge of the breathing mask was exactly stuck on the bridge of his nose, leaving an imprint after a while.

Seeing the game between Fu Yunzheng and the nurse, Yu He’s nervous mood relaxed a bit.

It seems that he can still care about these details, indicating that his mental state is still okay.

Yu He walked over and held the breathing mask on Fu Yunzheng’s face.

Fu Yunzheng’s pupils turned slightly, and he saw Yu He’s slightly helpless smile.

Upon seeing that Fu Yunzheng could still smile at him, Yu He immediately felt relieved that there was not a big problem.

He squatted down, his arm resting on the bed, his chin resting on his arm like a helpless child when his parents get sick.

Fu Yunzheng’s heart softened at the sight.

Yu He’s hand was warm, pressing against the plastic mask. The plastic mask was quickly imprinted with a fingerprint, which changed with each exhale of Fu Yunzheng’s hot breath.

Disappear – Reappear – Disappear – Reappear.

The light from two operating room lamps illuminated the room brightly.

Although he was in a bedroom in a villa, Yu He had a feeling of being in an emergency room of a hospital, as if he could see life slipping away slowly.

Just waking up, Yu He felt a bit disoriented, “Is it a fever? Why is it so serious?”

Fu Yunzheng turned his head and whispered, “It’s okay, you should go back and rest.”

At night, Yu He’s vision would worsen, and he squinted to look at the reading on the electrocardiogram monitor across from him.

Other than heart rate and blood pressure, he couldn’t understand anything else.

“Your heart rate is a bit slow,” Yu He said before realising he had not used polite language and added, “Sir.”

Fu Yunzheng turned his head to glance at the screen, “55, not slow.”

Yu He reached out and touched Fu Yunzheng’s forehead, which was indeed very hot. “You have a fever,” he said.

After hesitating for a while, there were too many people here, and he felt it was difficult to bring up the topic, so he knelt on one knee, propped himself up on the bed, and leaned over to Fu Yunzheng’s ear, using a whisper to ask, “Is it because of me?”

“It’s nothing,” Fu Yunzheng had already passed the age of blaming others, he showed the generosity of a superior, lifted his arm to hold the oxygen mask on his face, and said to Yu He, “It’s not your fault.”

Yu He didn’t react.

If Fu Yunzheng scolded him or even hit him, it would be okay. The less Fu Yunzheng cared, the more guilty and worthless Yu He felt.

This was the precious yet useless innocence of young people. Yu He couldn’t completely separate Fu Yunzheng’s illness from his behaviour last night, as if it had nothing to do with him.

He shouldn’t have turned and left last night.

Fu Yunzheng shooed him away probably not because he liked being taken care of as a disabled person, otherwise he wouldn’t have lived in such a big villa and wouldn’t have been left alone at night.

Yu He asked again in a whisper in Fu Yunzheng’s ear, “Are you feeling uncomfortable?”

Fu Yunzheng remained calm and gave a vague answer, “It’s okay.”

Just then, one of the doctors came over with a few blood collection tubes, and Fu Yunzheng rolled up his sleeves to expose the veins at the bend of his arm.

The doctor reached out and lightly pressed twice on Fu Yunzheng’s vein with his thumb: “Mr. Fu, we need to do a blood test to check for the pathogen causing the illness.”

When someone has a fever, a blood test is usually needed. Generally, doctors can determine the cause of the fever, whether it is a viral or bacterial infection, by examining the white blood cell count in the peripheral blood.

Yu He heard Fu Yunzheng grunt in response. He was watching Fu Yunzheng at the time, and Fu Yunzheng happened to turn his head and glance at him.

In that fleeting moment of eye contact, Yu He’s face suddenly grew warm.

He and Fu Yunzheng understood each other without saying a word. They both knew the reason behind Fu Yunzheng’s fever.

The doctors in the room didn’t know, the caregivers didn’t know, Uncle Zhang didn’t know, and even the servants and attendants didn’t know.

Only Yu He and Fu Yunzheng knew, but they wouldn’t say it.

They shared a secret.

The doctor bent down and took out a blood collection needle. (Syringe)

Yuhe turned his head and closed his eyes.

“Are you feeling dizzy?” Fu Yunzheng asked.

Yu He: “Needle phobia.”

Fu Yunzheng seemed to chuckle.

The room was a bit noisy, with muted voices, the hum of instruments, and the sound of blood flowing into the blood collection tube. Yu He wasn’t sure if Fu Yunzheng really laughed.

But he was certain that after he said he was afraid of needles, Fu Yunzheng gave a faint evaluation in two words: “Fragile.”

After the blood test results came out, the doctor said with a serious tone: “Mr. Fu, the blood test report shows that there is inflammation in your body. It is necessary for you to go to the hospital for a detailed examination.”

The somewhat noisy room suddenly became quiet.

The secret that Yu He and Fu Yunzheng had about the cause of the fever was exposed by the blood test report, but they gained a new secret. That is, where the inflammation occurred.

Fu Yunzheng said, “No need to go to the hospital, just take some antibiotics tomorrow.”

The doctor was very serious. This patient was notorious for avoiding medical treatment and not cooperating with treatment was Fu Yunzheng’s usual state. He wanted to continue persuading him, but Fu Yunzheng’s attitude was very firm. After all, he was only the private doctor of the Fu family. If Fu Yunzheng didn’t want to go to the hospital, there was nothing anyone could do about it.

After hanging the IV drip, Fu Yunzheng sent the doctor away, and Zhan Shan seemed to want to say something, but in the end he didn’t.

After everyone left, the crowded room suddenly became quiet.

Fu Yunzheng immediately took off the oxygen mask on his face.

Yu He sat on the chair next to Fu Yunzheng’s bed, staring up at the constantly dripping medicine, lost in thought.

When people were coming and going, Yu He and Fu Yunzheng talked for a few words, but when everyone left, they both fell silent and no one spoke.

The room was filled with only the sound of the medical equipment running. It was already 10 o’clock, which was the time when Fu Yunzheng usually went to sleep. However, he was running a fever, and soon drowsiness overtook him amidst the humming sound of the medical equipment.

Yu He heard Fu Yunzheng’s breathing gradually deepen. When he looked down, Fu Yunzheng had already fallen asleep with an indentation on his nose from the breathing mask.

Yu He casually adjusted the flow rate of the intravenous drip and took out his phone to play the game ‘Happy Elimination’ on silent mode.

He had no experience in taking care of others.

In fact, no one asked him to stay here, and the first thing that Fu Yunzheng said to him was to go back and rest.

Fu Yunzheng’s generosity towards him was not what one would expect from a capitalist.

Perhaps only a few capitalists, like his foster father who wished to exploit the value of others, existed, and the real tycoons were all as kind and good-hearted as Mr. Fu Yunzheng?

Yu He thought of the outside evaluation of Fu Yunzheng again.

‘Capricious, cruel means, and will do whatever it takes to achieve the goal.’

As long as it was a project that Fu Yunzheng wanted to take down, he had never failed, and he had brought the already prominent Fu family to another peak.

But Yu He didn’t think Fu Yunzheng was capricious.

Fu Yunzheng would unconsciously reveal the dignity of a superior, while also being restrained, maintaining a boundary that was awe-inspiring but not oppressive. Occasionally, he would leak his domineering side, which would scare Yu He, but he would quickly retract his authority.

Before the second bag of medicine was emptied, Fu Yunzheng slowly woke up.

“What time is it?”

Perhaps due to just waking up, Fu Yunzheng’s voice was particularly hoarse, like a bass that no matter how hard you try, you couldn’t press it down. It sounded as beautiful as a cello.

Looking at his phone, Yu He replied, “It’s eleven thirty.”

Upon hearing Yu He’s voice, Fu Yunzheng seemed to want to sit up, but he was hooked up to a monitor and had a catheter in his arm, so he couldn’t reach for the bed’s overhead hook (those hanging loops made for FYZ).

Yu He leaned down, hugged Fu Yunzheng’s shoulders, and helped him sit up.

Fu Yunzheng asked, “It’s so late, why are you still here?”

“I’m not sleepy,” replied Yu He.

Glancing at the water jug on the bedside table, Yu He didn’t understand what it meant and innocently looked at Fu Yunzheng.

“Pour me a glass of water,” Fu Yunzheng instructed Yu He while pinching his nose, “Then go back to your room and rest.”

Yu He really didn’t know how to take care of people. After helping Fu Yunzheng sit up, he didn’t even think to put a cushion behind his back. And when Fu Yunzheng asked for water, Yu He simply handed him the cup.

This glass of water has been sitting on the bedside table for hours. Not only is it completely cold, but there’s also dust floating in the cup from all the people coming and going earlier.

Looking at the dust floating up and down in the cup, Fu Yunzheng smiled mysteriously.

It’s true that he doesn’t know how to take care of people, but he’s also smart. When he saw Fu Yunzheng staring at the cup without saying anything, he realised what had happened.

How could he have served the boss cold water like that?

“Um…” He reached out and took the cup back, pretending as if nothing had happened just now. “Would you like to have some water or tea, sir?”

Fu Yunzheng didn’t answer, but instead said, “It’s okay, leave it like that.”

Yu He is only nineteen years old and has a truly youthful mentality.

When asked to do something, if someone starts giving him orders and making demands, he has a bellyful of arguments waiting to refute them. On the other hand, the more someone doesn’t demand anything from him and indulges him, the more he feels guilty and wants to prove himself to others.

In short, he is like a crane that only goes along with the feathers, and cannot be rubbed against the grain. (He’s a go-with-the-flow kind of person.)

He held the water glass and pondered for a moment, trying to think of what positive impact he could have on Fu Yunzheng’s illness.

He had a sudden inspiration and crouched down to ask, “Mr. Fu, have you taken your medicine?”

Fu Yunzheng was surprised and looked at the crouching Yu He.

Yu He’s words were ambiguous and didn’t specifically mention which medication to take, but Fu Yunzheng understood what he was asking. He was surprised by the young man’s boldness, but at the same time, Yu He’s question was so natural that it gave Fu Yunzheng the impression that there was no need to avoid the topic.

If he didn’t answer, he would seem timid.

Regardless of the situation, the term ‘stage fright’ was far from Fu Yunzheng.

Without changing his expression, Fu Yunzheng calmly replied, “No.”

Upon receiving the negative answer, the expression on Yu He’s face became very serious, and he immediately began to educate Fu Yunzheng about the dangers of not taking medicine. He went on a long and winding explanation, starting from a mild inflammation and leading to nodular ulcers and rectal inflammation.

He spoke at length, as if he had done serious research on the subject.

When Yu He talked about how internal haemorrhoids could cause explosive bleeding, Fu Yunzheng had to admit that most young people nowadays have a quirky personality. Yu He was particularly so. He was pretty and had an endearing personality, but unfortunately, he talked too much. It would have been better if he were mute.
