Fallen Guardian : The Last Shadow

Chapter 17 - A storm of darkness. (1)

"That's it...we are almost finished Miss Izumi...keep transferring for a while longer." Ryu instructed as he saw an exhausted Izumi.

"Alright...that's enough, you can stop now." Ryu ordered as he signaled the others.

"That counts as the 13th day since we started forging your Soul Sword. The grip and the blade are ready now. Miss Izumi, tomorrow's the last day, we are going to forge the grip and the blade together into one. Tomorrow will be the toughest day of all, be prepared." Ryu warned as he carefully picked the forged blade and grip.

"Sir, you are ordered to report to the Chief immediately." A Protector shouted as he rushed towards a middle aged man standing atop of the fortified walls of the city's Western gate, gazing at the sun as it set over the barren land to the West of Areon.

"What...?!" This was Areon's third in command of the city, a senior B-Rank protector, the protector who is in charge of making sure the walls of Areon are heavily guarded and defended from any external threat, 'Hisashi Yamamoto'. He is responsible for making sure that the city's walls are not breached.

"I will head over there immediately...inform Kurai's squad to keep a watch here till I come back and tell Hishimoto's squad to look after Kurai's assigned position as well." Hisashi ordered as he took the stairs to his left and headed towards the protectors office.

"Miss Nariko...where is the chief?" Hisashi inquired as he stepped inside the protectors office. Nariko is the ever present protector in the front counter at the protector's head quarters .

"Oh...he will be here soon. Most of the city's high level officers will be here as well. I heard it is something very important. Even I was asked to attend the meeting." She replied with a pleasant smile.

"What could be so important, that all the captains of the city had to be called." A voice came from a man walking towards them from the corner of the room. This was the city's patrol captain, Isao Sato.

"Who knows...he said it was something we have to prepare immediately for." A women's voice made it's way into the room as they saw all the captains of different sectors of the city made their way into the building along with Zeyner.

"Let's head to the meeting room, captains." Zeyner said as he lead the captains into the meeting room.

The meeting room was dark with a triangular table in the center surrounded by chairs and lamps on the wall. The captains seated themselves around the table with Zeyner seated at one of the corners of the table and Hisashi donning another corner of it.

"Sir...what is so..importan..." One of the captains tried to talk up only to be interrupted by Zeyner.

Zeyner released a strong gust causing the lamps in the room to go dark.

"Genus Urbs!!!" An energy tattoo floated from the left arm of Zeyner as it shone in a blue vibrant color.

This created a white color, three dimensional floating miniature model of the city made of energy on the table. This is something only a city's chief could do. All the city chief's have a blueprint of their city instilled in their body.

"There is a storm of dark energy approaching from the north of the city. I assume it was created due to the dark energy emitted by the approaching Dk's army." Zeyner pointed his finger towards the north gate of the miniature model of the city. A dark colored storm appeared a few centimeters away from the city's north gate in front of them.

"The dark energy will disperse by the time it reaches the next city, but it is going to be strong enough to affect the people of our city. We have to fortify the walls and create an energy shield and make sure the storm passes by the city without entering our city." Zeyner stated as he looked around the table.

The room went silent as the captains contemplated the situation in front of them.

"Where is Miss Izumi, sir? Isn't this too important to ignore the fact that she is missing." Isao questioned as he stared at Zeyner.

"She is having a Soul sword forged. You know it's procedure, she is away transferring her energy. She won't be taking part in this mission." Zeyner stated calmly as he landed a soft gaze on Isao.

"So, what's the plan chief?" Hisashi sighed as he asked the chief.

Zeyner took twenty five minutes to explain the plan, while others listened intently with hints of seriousness on their faces.

"Sir, you do realize that we don't have enough man power to carry out the plan as well as patrol the interior city at the same time. Our men will also be exhausted after holding the energy shield for six hours and cannot take on any night patrols." The one who spoke was Nariko. Although she was not a captain, she knew exactly how many protectors any task would need as she was the one who would normally inform any protector of their tasks.

"We have to lower our guard tomorrow inside the city, we have no choice. We aren't making it public for that very reason. They wouldn't notice the storm as it would be night by the time it hits. Make sure that all the civilians are moved away temporarily from the North gate, also keep the information confidential, we cannot afford letting the city know it. Some crooks might take advantage of the situation we are in." Zeyner ordered with a very serious look on his face to which everyone replied with a nod.

"Meeting dismissed. Nariko send someone to inform Izumi of the situation and also tell her that she doesn't need to come in tomorrow. If I am not wrong, tomorrow is the last day that she needs to transfer energy to complete the procedure." Zeyner walked away as he ordered.

"What happened Shin?" Ryu asked as he witnessed Shin suddenly stop in his tracks as they made their way back into the house after closing up the workshop for the day.

Shin looked intently towards the North for a brief moment and turned to face Ryu. "Sir, I am going to be out for a walk tomorrow after sun fall. Would that be okay?"

Ryu was perplexed hearing what Shin suddenly asked him permission for. "Um...We would close the workshop anyway, I have no problem. But, why do you want to go for a walk tomorrow, especially in the night all of a sudden?"

"It's just that...I wanted to feel the light breeze of the night for a change. We are completing the Soul sword tomorrow anyway, so I thought I would take a long night stroll and sleep in the warehouse for the night." Shin thought up something immediately and answered Ryu.

"Well, taking a night stroll isn't a bad idea for a change. Go ahead and take a stroll, it's not like you are skipping work anyways. But why sleep in the warehouse?" Ryu said as he stole a look at Shin before they started waking back.

"I don't want to disturb anyone coming late in the night and knocking the door. Let me just sleep in the warehouse for the night Mr. Takahashi." Shin stated as if he was very comfortable with it.

"Uh...Alright as you wish...if you can't sleep, don't bother knocking the door." Ryu said as he stared towards Shin.
