Fate/Inheritance

Chapter 28 - 27: When Death itself danced in the night (Part I)

Arranging my tie, I looked at my reflection in the mirror while hearing the servants outside running around busy at the upcoming evening and welcoming party to the delegates. Reflected is a young man with sharp looks and a handsome face of Easter descent. No matter how I see myself I can always say how I am blessed with all the great qualities of people of the East. Well William started to look a bit more westernized when he started gaining the Hound of Ulster's powers. Remembering my recently found best friend I broke a smile a bit.

I won't mince on my identity for you guys seem to know already but let me take the wheel on explaining the current situation here~ (A/N: The author was mysteriously mugged at this point). You see today is the day the delegations ranging from neighboring kingdoms, temples that follow a certain deity and lastly people from other different races.

Now as the main purpose they are here is that a 'volunteer' of sort that had been already chosen will be left in the capital to train the upcoming heroes. If you just ignore the stupid politics that really smells from miles away we, as heroes have suddenly got a group of one of the best teachers the allies can offer. But they have a more annoying motive this time.

A demigod was chosen as a hero will surely cause a ruckus and boy oh boy William is in big trouble. I learned from teach (who seems to have the codename Zero) about this 'main target' of the delegates is William. But the thing is, the 'main actor' of the day is actually in his room tinkering and practicing magecraft while feigning sickness. It was easy to not let him go outside for even if he has started to develop Lancer's 'bro air' he is still an otaku through and through. As a fellow otaku but from a different strain I can say we have an unnatural disgust in crowded places especially if all the people around you are normies and sometimes super normies.

If you just whisper a bit of words on him about a lot of 'super normies' visiting the palace… He holed up in our room and even turned it into a f.u.c.k.i.n.g fortress with his basic understanding of magecraft. Hmm~ you asking me now why am I joining in what could be obviously a normie event?

It's because of the flag. Now you asking me what a flag is? Why are you even reading this stuff anyway? Ignoring my ramblings let me just some it up as big party -> big shots attending -> bad ending. No matter how you piece it together something tragic is going to happen! I even asked my teach if the defenses and the security is still solid countless times it made me still even be more worried. No matter how you brag about how your defenses are or how sharp you are a crazy girl may just rush at you and stab you in the back. So I was forced to join this stupid party.

I already arrived at the royal halls and the dancing and music has already started. I quickly noticed the guys socializing with people of different origin. Wao! James generic MC aura is already doing its rounds! Ignoring the radiant sight, I monitored the whole floor using my incarnations while praying for the Riajuu to explode.

My incarnations cannot only form into animals or weapons but meld into different kind of objects masking their energy while using the 'eyes' those said objects have. If the objects don't have any form that can emulate the parts that holds the senses, I merely use them as ambushing purposes or detect enemies through a more thorough echolocation by making them vibrate in low frequencies of sound to pass or rebound on them.

My abilities are not still complete and m.a.t.u.r.ed that I even need to be in a 20-meter range from my familiars or they will dissipate. They cannot also make a full doppelganger that can totally emulate people but my practice has slowly blossomed that I can now make the lower part of the human body into a 'perfect copy' and not a fluctuation of the familiar dark energy.

I walked to the tables where the food is currently served while greeting freely to my fellow classmates with my usual style. My fellow classmates aware of my usual quirk greeted me with the appropriate gestures for the occasion while sporting a wry smile. This is one of the perks of having a very 'unique' personality people tends to avoid us when the situation is too serious and it makes me move more free and unrestrained.

Taking a glass from one of the servants carrying some drinks I downed the alcohol like someone who tends to drink by the street. I got some weird stares from the dwarven delegates but it made the surrounding make me not too approachable. Nodding to myself while secretly putting the liquid I just drank on my item box I pretended to be slightly drunk and my eyes darted here and there. I learned this trick when I started playing with my item box once. It won't make me fire weapons from the inside like a certain Goldy but I found ways to play with it.

'It's too normal that its freaking suspicious already' I though looking at the dancing nobles and foreigners. I took another glass while monitoring the security themselves with my incarnations. I had this vague feeling something is going on but I can't place this weird sensation I got. I feel secretly suffocated like someone is tying a noose on my neck in every passing second.

'There are hidden guards mixing in with the people on the hall and I can see the protective barrier is still in full operation.' I mused while pretending to drink. It might be I'm just too s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e but this gut feeling of mine always saved my a.s.s even back home. While I was secretly monitoring the hall the final part of the night where the royal family will pop out is slowly starting.

'Ahhh I wanna go back to the room now and do experiments with Ruby again.' I though while I was focusing my gaze at the red curtains where the king and his family members will pop out. While I was observing the hall with a bird eye's view using my incarnation attached to the chandelier I noticed a girl slowly walk to my body. I snapped out of it and pretended I sensed her and look at her direction confusedly.

"Oh~? Hero-sama sensed my approach?" She said with a smile. I checked her out and it seems she is in our age group with hair that is beautifully in gray tied in a bun and pupils that is red as the rubies my mother used to own. She looked above average with her sweet smile typical of girls born from rich families and a body that clearly says she m.a.t.u.r.ed properly. She curtsied to me and called herself Laila and it seems she was brought along this event by her father a noble that came from the Eastern part of the kingdom. I greeted her sloppily and started a conversation. I made her laugh and talked with her about things that is mundane while secretly observing her.

'No traces of formal training in the martial branch so a magician type? No I can't erase the chances that she is pretending and may even have a formal training with a type unknown to my knowledge.' I mused while trying to discreetly collect information and controlling my body making it act like someone drunk. I throw in some lies about myself and brag here and there like a drunkard while teasing her and when I heard the announcement that the royal family is going to appear I focused on where the light's and waited for them to appear.

Due to my change of focus I ignored the girl beside me and that was a big mistake. I heard her call out to me and she said.

"You know Tenryuu-sama~ I noticed that you have been observing the people here and had been checking the security~." She talked in a teasing tone making me flinch and look at her confusedly. But the next words she said made a cold shiver down my spine.

"But you know~… you made one big mistake~… You did not observe yourself properly~ H.E.R.O. – sama~." She said slowly while slowly pointing to me and I finally noticed it. In the finger she pointed to me I found a very thin string and when I looked at myself.

"!!!" I saw that I was already weaved with countless number of invisible strings making me go pale and look at the girl who just owned me like a pro.
