Fate/Inheritance

Chapter 64 - 60: What is it to be a human

"You… are you an idiot?" Saying my piece, I looked at the startled face of Merlin and all I can say it was priceless.

"No wonder that guy's favorite saying was 'To get your foot cut by your trusted axe' well this time its chopped already before the plans main scheme was going to be started anyway(lol)?" I shook my head and smiled wryly. (A/N: Favorite saying of Naruan the instructor from Running Away From the Hero! Basically it means something or someone that you trust the most stabs you in the back at the decisive moments.)

"No wait… I understand the meaning of that saying but why call me an idiot?" Merlin said after recomposing himself.

"I call you an idiot because you're an idiot, idiot!" I snapped back at him. Sheeesh~ I did not expect I would admonish someone especially 'the' Merlin. But if someone sensible enough would hear what he said, naturally you would get slightly peeved.

"Listen here, you can't just tell someone that they will not become 'human' if they pulled a damn sword from the stone got it?" I pointed at him and admonished him.

"Bu–"Atatatatata~? Let me finish. You might be implying because they would become immortal they would cease to become human when they pulled out the sword but that's where you are fundamentally wrong." I said to him and stopped him from arguing back with a finger.

"Listen you idiot, first you tell that to a girl who's age is still s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e to her surroundings naturally she will misunderstand your statement. Look what happened, she closed her damn heart and thought of herself as some sort of martyr." I said to him letting him remember what had become of Artoria making him gloomy.

"Second, you already replaced her heart of a dragon and still look, the girl still grew up as any normal girl as it should be. She might not had acted as a girl because of her upbringing but still she stayed 'human' inside. But because of what you had said to her in this moment, she finally resolved to herself of what is an 'ideal king' in her perspective." I pointed at the idiotic words he said.

"Look here, you might have a lot of concern for her but that's not how you try to 'discourage' or 'encourage' someone." I finalized my reprimanding with that sentence then a long awkward silence happened between us.

"…So your saying it was my fault?" Finally, he said something and I noticed that he is actually a bit pissed.

"Yes and no…" I replied, looking at his confused look I asked him a question.

"How did you thought her and saved her in her perilous situations back then?" I asked him. Thinking for a moment he answered;

"By either my advice or with my powers."

"Then, where did that advice and powers came from." Nailing with that statement he realized where I am getting at.

"…so are you saying I should had not trusted in my visions?" Merlin questioned.

"Nope, you just misinterpreted them." Looking at his baffled look I sighed for the umpteenth time. That's why I hate having a cheat or walkthrough when playing games, I thought.

"What I am saying is, you should have had not thought of 'literally' trusting your visions and such. I know your powers to 'see' the future is a guaranteed success but you should first understand it by something what we humans always do." I said to him with a smile.

"That is…?" His curiosity was peeked, he questioned.

"Guts." I answered with a smug look.

"…guts?" Baffled, he retorted.

"Umu! Guts or basically your gut feeling it's…" I lectured him the deep meaning of guts and its connection to how a 'human' is for nearly an hour is.

"So basically... your saying I lack the understanding what a human heart is? You do know that I'm half-incubus" He stated.

"Dude your pretty stubborn right? You still have human blood in your veins. Don't pull out the cliché and chunni reason that just because you have an inhuman part you are not human. I can basically write down a long list of individuals who has a 'human heart' even if their genetic makeup is that of something else. Heck, I know a certain someone who have one." I said and suddenly thought of Lugh, my 'father'.

Looking at his silent figure that had somehow been seating in a seiza without me noticing, I sighed and turned back to the sword that was neglected for a bit longer. Clasping it with my two hands I tried to to pull it when…

"Hahahaha~" Merlin suddenly laughed making me freak out. I looked at his smiling face and finally noticed something.

"Ho~ seems you can 'truly' smile huh~…" I mused with a grin, I did not know where this s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e empathy of mine came from, but before I had a hard time understanding the thoughts of others when I was living on Earth but I am glad I learned to understand it even if I had countless mistakes before I gained this ability.

"I can only remember a few people who reprimanded me in my whole life and somehow, I can't give a valid argument at what you had said." He said while drying his eyes.

"You may had lived for a long time but your too afraid to jump to the unknown right?" I teased him with a grin.

"Yes, maybe I had lived and acted like a 'slightly' reasonable incubus that had a friendly look at humanity but to think I was too afraid to put myself into 'character' as a human~ and I call myself a 1st rate magus~" He said mockingly.

"Well good for you, and also good morning~" I teasted. The man is what you can be considered a dreamer yet because he dreams of the happy things that humans have he neglect what he saw at the present because he tend to look 'beyond'.

"Well… somehow instead of getting angry at you I somehow felt refreshed. Is this what they called shedding their skin perhaps? So as a gift maybe for beating me I guess I would help you for a bit." With a single gesture he made two orbs of light and one flew inside me and one to the sword. I felt a change happening inside me but I will check it later, got to pull out a sword first I thought.

"Go pull it out, I will stand here and watch you. I cannot fathom what you will see by the end of your journey but I wish it will be a happy one. But as what is etched in the sword, you should know the responsibility it will carry right?" He said smilingly.

"Yeah…of course." Finally, with nothing me. I clasped the handle and with a single pull the sword was set loose.

With the golden rays of the setting sun bathing me, I raised the sword up high and looked at it when…

"OOHHHHHHHHHHHH~!!!!!!!" Countless thunderous shouts echoed behind me. Startled, I looked back and saw something unbelievable that I will never forget in my life. Numerous armored men kneeling at me and at the forefront the Knights of the Round Table was also kneeling. Even those who had left Camelot and the knights who had been the reason of its downfall is kneeling in reverence. At the back I also noticed countless Heroic Spirits with various expressions and I even noticed Lancer-aniki waving at me with a smile.

Merlin ignoring my shocked look, bowed himself and gestured to me and proclaimed...

"I present to you all, King Arthur Pendragon the King of Knights and the Once and Future King!"

"Eh…EHHHHHHHHHHHH~!!?" My shout of bewilderment was quickly swallowed by the cheers of the people till I was swallowed by a bright light and vanished.
