Chapter 15

“Michael, watch your mouth.”

“Why should I?”

“Are you really sure you don’t know? The Tower Lord might hear you.”

“………”

Michael immediately shut his mouth at Hilvenzia’s warning, but somehow Hilvenzia became more anxious.

“If you want him to know, then personally tell him.”

No, actually, she might have already known what has transpired but is feigning ignorance.

If a positive response came from Diamide, Michael would already have made it obvious.

“Hilvenzia.”

Hilvenzia was stunned. It was because Michael had never called her by her name.

“…..What?”

“That man, no, he can’t be labeled as a human. I have never seen the Towerlord do something so inhumane.”

“You mean that the Towerlord…?”

“If I dared to stay a little bit longer, I wouldn’t be standing here right now.”

Michael’s eyes dimmed. The calm and cool atmosphere that he had never felt before struck him.

“But…. I can’t just let it go. Somebody in this tower might hurt Jayna again.”

“Leave it to me.” said Hilvenzia.

“In the first place, dealing with those troublemakers is my job.”

***

“Moben.”

“Huk!”

Moben turned back in surprise just like a deer caught in the headlights. Then,a fellow wizard stuttered with a more surprised face.

“What….what. I’ve called you for several times. How many time should I call you to catch your attention?”

“No…. I’m just… not feeling well. Why?”

“I’ll go to the quarters first. Really, you’re not your usual self lately.”

Moben certainly admitted that his condition was not in the ordinary may it be mentally or physically.

He was beaten hard by Jayna’s tail which made him feel numb even until now.

He thought that taking the little dragon girl would solve all of his problems.

But things didn’t go as he planned.

Or rather, the situation just got worse.

‘I didn’t expect to get hit by a dragon’s tail. I thought properly tying her legs and arms are enough…’

It was an action that goes way beyond common sense, so it can’t be called as mistake more like hindsight.

‘Damn, what do I do now?’

His heart beats quicken. The thumping sound made his head dizzy. He pretended not to care and try to think up of a solution to solve this dilemma, but his anxiety didn’t subside.

‘No, nothing’s going to happen.’

Didn’t Michael say it himself? Jayna is not officially a member of the tower.

Right, this matter will be resolved just like this.

It has to end…

‘Only a few people have seen me lying beside Jayna. If I were to recall there were only one or two witnesses.’

Unless the Towerlord comes forth himself, this matter will end after a brief discussions among the wizards.

There is also no substantial evidence that can be trace back to him that he tried to kidnap Jayna.

He’s just lying down right next to her, isn’t he?

If Jayna talks about what happened or what he did to her, everyone will just say that she’s exaggerating and then shrugged off her claim.

‘Yeah, let’s not dwell on it too much.’

After several attempts of comforting himself, he regained his calm disposition

“Moben Klav. Right?”

A faint sound of wind passed through his ear.

Shhhkkk

Several trees soared and entangled themselves around him. The stems of the tree entwined itself to his body, until he was incapable to move and protruded between the stems is Moben, himself.

Moben tried to untangle himself free yet this only left him struggling like a fluttering fish.

“Keuhook!”

Even while in pain, Moben tried to draw up his mana.

He was a wizard of the tower. Even though he was attacked and was caught off guard, he will still be able to get himself free if he only he came to his senses.

He can get away with it soon….

‘What? What!’

He wanted to scream, but the stem lodged into his mouth. The dark energy that is being emanated by the stem seems to wander inside of him.

Then, someone came in front of Moben, who was wildly struggling.

‘Oh…..?’

Moben’s movement stopped. There was a presence before him that shouldn’t be there.

‘Noguimi Hilvenzia…?’

A woman in a fancy dress, with a short hood hanging like a cape, and was holding a reagent bottle in her hand.

Moben wanted to deny the situation.

Everything he’s seeing right now must be a dream, or rather a terrible nightmare.

However, the fluttering, curly, silver hair begs to differ as if mocking him that what his facing was in fact reality.

“It looks like you planned it thoroughly, but was still caught by me. What a shame, right?”

Hilvenzia was looking around while continuing her speech, with a thunderous voice. She even stops to nod her head in the middle of her speech.

“Jayna seems be aware that she weighs a ton for she’s a dragon, even though she has childlike appearance. You were well-prepared. But, alas…..”

Hilvenzia languidly smiled.

“Are you embarrassed that this older sister is the one who caught you?’

How on earth did she know that he was trying to kidnap that dragon? And, how did Hilvenzia appear before him. But this can’t be an accident, an alchemist should care about.

Besides, Michael Bellaphanian said it himself, that no one is protecting her and that no one will care even if someone touch her (Jayna), and yet, why?

‘He said she wasn’t even recognized as the daughter of the Towerlord! And that unless she is a member of the tower, it wouldn’t matter if something ever happened to her!’

However, the situation before his eyes proved that there was a misjudgment with his plan. Deep despair was cast over Moben’s eyes.

“Moben, you’re out of luck.”

He began to lose his mind, under the pressure that seems to be crushing his guts.

***

The place where Hilvenzia was situated with Moben is the hidden basement of the tower.

In a labyrinth-like prison, a hanging Moben can be seen.

His body was literally in a state being ‘drunk’. It was because he was suffering from the aftereffects, of Hilvenzia’s torture.

“Ugh!! Please let me go!”

Hilvenzia shrugged and laughed.

“Whoo-hoo, you’ve been banned of food for a week, and for keeping me awake, so you’re probably at you limits. Maybe this is still not enough?”

“P-please…”

“Like this let’s keep on going, since you annoy me.”

Hilvenzia grinned. Moben’s body began to terribly tremble. Regret and fear encroached upon his body.

If he knew that this would happen, he wouldn’t have dared touched Jayna.

-“You, it would be better to receive the approval of the Towerlord as soon as possible and be under his protection.”

-“Even if you were to suddenly disappear one day, I can’t even officially find you.”

Believing in those words, his decision to use Jayna as an experiment for the test of the tower resulted in this.

He twisted himself in tears of sympathy.

“I didn’t mean to hurt or kill Jayna. I was just trying to get a little help….”

“You wanted to get some help from Jayna, so I’d like to get some help from Mr. Moben too.”

At the words, Moben tried moving his tied up body and struggled to get out of the way. Hilvenzia laughed louder at the sight.

“If you were going to use someone as an experiment, are you prepared to become one?”

Hilvenzia said with a cold look.

“You need to experience what’s like to be one.”

Hilvenzia took a bottle out of the sleeve of her coat. Inside of it was something similar to a snake emitting a black smoke.

When she opened the bottle, something of an ominous form crept out and climbed up into Moben’s body.

“So, Mr. Moben. Would you please have fun with this sister?”

Hilvenzia bent her eyes finely as she looked at the tearful Moben.

***

Everything was hazy. Neither her feelings nor the world around her felt clear.

Something in her was being swept away by pain, and it seemed like she is losing her mind

‘What happened?’

Ah, was it the same as usual?

Mocked and hated because of her birth, was tried to be used as a rare material because she’s a dragon or has gotten attention for other unknown reasons.

‘Yeah, it’s not a big deal.’

Jayna tried to open her eyes. Tried to push away the heavy darkness that was pressing her down.

However, she kept losing her strength.

It felt like she was being sucked into a dark pit even though she was struggling.

“When will Jayna wake up?”

“I just haven’t opened my eyes yet…”

However, a familiar voice was heard at that moment…

Jayna managed to open her heavy lidded eyes. Then her eyes met with the two people that were looking down at her. A surprise and a welcoming look can be seen in the eyes of the two.

“Jayna?”

“Little kid!”

Jayna tried to answer, but her voice was hoarse.

A big cough coming from her stop the two.

“Are you trying to lie down for another month as soon as you woke up? Just lie down and be quiet.”

“Just lie down. You’ve been asleep for a while, so don’t overdo it.”

Jayna roamed her eyes. All she can see is white. It was a completely different place from her dark room.

“In the meantime, what has happened?”

“….”

“Why am I here?”

Jayna touched her smooth forehead with her small hand.

Trying to distinguish dreams from reality but was proving to be a difficult task for the memories are blurry.

Perhaps because she just woke up, the line between dream and reality are hard to distinguish.

She asked Michael and Hilvenzia questions to help find out the truth.

“You’ve been sleep talking while you’re sleeping. You know?”

“Me?”

“”Well, you want an egg tart, and asking how can a calf melt so lightly?”

When Michael giggled, Jayna blinked her eyes.

‘Did I sleep talk?’

In the past, when she was sleeping, she accidentally kicked off her cousin Taylor, and in the following morning, Taylor, said that it was hard to wake her up for she’s sleeping like the dead.

So she thought she didn’t talk in her sleep. Has she changed?

She always fell asleep alone, so she couldn’t tell.

She’s seriously thinking about it, and Michael giggled.

“Just kidding. Why are you so serious?”

“Oh, you were kidding?”

“To be tricked by a few words and struggle, you’re really an idiot.”

“Well….”

She wasn’t really struggling because of it…. But rather, because a thought has crossed her mind at that time and she felt something was strange.
