Chapter 24: Stupid Girls

Chunxiu was so angry that tears were about to fall from her eyes when she heard Lan Hui say that her daughters were just stupid girls. When she saw that Lan Hui still wanted to pour a bag of rock sugar into the pot, she found it even more unbelievable. “Are you using all the rock sugar? Rock sugar is so expensive. Does the family know about this?”

“The rock candy belongs to my family. I can use as much as I want. Is there a need for you to point fingers?” Lan Hui was doted on by her parents and three brothers at home, so she did not take Chunxiu seriously at all.

“You… you’re too much! Lan Hui, you do nothing at home, and you never go out to farm to earn points. What right do you have to use all the autumn pears and rock sugar at home?”

Chunxiu was so angry that her eyes turned red. What made her even more disappointed was that Lan Hui had cooked so much autumn pear soup, but she refused to give it to her two daughters. She even said that her two daughters were useless.

Lan Hui was also a girl from the Lan family. Why was Lan Hui doted on as the little princess of the family while her two daughters had to suffer this insult?

Chunxiu thought of her two daughters. Ever since they were five or six years old, they had taken baskets and gone to the mountains with the adults to dig wild vegetables and cut pig grass. Their two pairs of pitiful little hands were always cracked in the winter.

As for Lan Hui, other than eating and having fun, she did not have to do anything else! Now, she was even so self-righteous about wasting the food at home. This was not fair!

“You’re so annoying! Do you really think you’re a member of the Lan family? My parents don’t even dare to control me. What right do you have to do it? Wait until you give birth to a son before saying these things to me. Oh, my mistake. It’s impossible for you to give birth to a son!”

Lan Hui glanced disdainfully at Chunxiu’s bulging stomach.

Lan Hui had been reborn. She remembered very clearly that her second sister-in-law’s third child was a daughter.

Being unable to give birth to a son had always been Chunxiu’s greatest regret. Even though Chunxiu liked her daughters very much, the villagers cared a lot about boys. She really hoped her third child would be a son. This way, she could have a backbone in this family and have more say.

Lan Hui’s words stabbed Chunxiu’s heart like a knife. They were even more vicious than a curse. Chunxiu immediately trembled with anger.

“I’m not working, but aren’t you also not working?” Lan Hui pointed at Chunxiu’s big belly and smiled maliciously. “You’re pregnant, so do you think you’re very special? But what’s the use of being pregnant? You’re just a hen who can’t lay eggs and can’t even give birth to a son! Can’t you see how much my parents despise you and your two daughters? You really don’t have any self-awareness!”

Chunxiu was so angry that she could not stand steadily. Her body swayed, and she hurriedly held onto the table. Then, she raised her head and looked at Lan Hui in disbelief. “Lan Hui, I’m your second sister-in-law. How can you talk to me like that?”

“Did I say anything wrong? Am I wrong? Your belly was a disappointment, so serve you right!” Lan Hui smiled smugly. After pouring the rock sugar into the pot, she ran out to find someone to help deliver the autumn pear soup.

In her agitation, Chunxiu’s stomach felt unwell. She sat on the bench, trembling as tears fell from her eyes. Her body was bloated from giving birth previously. She looked miserable.

In order to prevent her eldest and second daughter from being despised by her in-laws in the Lan family in the future, Chunxiu had to give birth to a son. This was the helplessness and misfortune of a countryside woman.

Lan Hui’s words hit Chunxiu’s sore spot. At the same time, it made Chunxiu’s impression of Lan Hui worse.

However, Chunxiu also understood that Lan Hui was the beloved daughter of her in-laws. No matter what Lan Hui did wrong, the Lan family would not blame her.

“Mom, don’t cry. We won’t drink the autumn pear soup anymore. Don’t be sad.” The sensible girls saw that their mother was crying and hurriedly walked forward to help her wipe her tears.

Chunxiu hugged her two daughters. “I’m sorry. I’m useless. I’ve let you suffer.” Chunxiu wailed.

On the field, the endless wheat fields swayed gently in the breeze like a golden sea. It was very spectacular and beautiful.

“Wei Luan, slow down. Wait for me. What’s wrong with you today? Do you want to die?”

The group of people started harvesting wheat at the same time. In just half an hour, Wei Luan was far ahead of the others. Ergou was stunned when he looked up.

Wei Luan had already finished cutting a row of wheat and was turning around to cut the second row!

Wei Luan was usually very diligent and nimble, but he was not that fast. This speed was too terrifying!
