Fire And Flame

Chapter 9 - The Photograph

Whereas, Lily's eyes never left the guy. Laura pulled her out and dragged her to the parking lot. Kelvin understood what was happening and giggled. These two girls were cute.

"Isn't he the guy from the neighbour colony?" he spoke.

"WHAT?!" Lily was shocked hearing to what Kelvin said. Laura was surprised too. Even though she wasn't much sociable, she never saw him once.

"Yes, sadly both his parents died from a car crash. He lives here with his grandmother. I don't know for how long will she live. She is too old." he continued.

"Poor boy..." he sighed.

"I feel sorry for what happened to him." Laura felt sad and her heart sank deep in her body when she came to know that his parents faced a tragic death.

"I feel bad too." for the first time, Lily couldn't speak.

"You both stay here. I will drive the car here." Kelvin started walking towards the car.

"We will go with you. Why wait here and take a round to exit? Better to walk to the car and directly exit through the front lane." Laura held Lily's hand and started walking towards the car.

"Okay." Kelvin walked along with the two girls.

They drove back home.

"Laura, let us complete our homework together today. I will come to your house at six in the evening. Okay?" Lily decided to complete her homework on time.

"Okay, but I won't show you the answers anymore. If you have doubts, you can get them cleared from me but try to solve the questions on your own." Laura ordered.

She wanted her friend to become responsible. Laura was the top scorer of her class. Lily always stood second. Lily only used to get serious during exams time whereas Laura studied everyday. She devoted at least three hours of self study.

Two best friends were quite famous in the school for winning different competitions together and bringing fame to the school. No one could defeat them in debate. Laura was good at singing, playing guitar, piano and painting whereas Lily at dancing, sports, playing drums and painting as well. They even shared the same birthday. Others used to envy their friendship. If Laura was the North Pole, Lily was the South Pole. Totally opposite. They were friendly to everyone but only relied on each other in times of need.

Their friendship had set an example in the whole school.

"See you in the evening then. Take care. Bye." Laura waved her hand before entering her house.

"See ya!" Lily started banging her house door.

"Can you not use the doorbell and stop banging the door? We have a doorbell for a reason! Oh my God, what's wrong with you?" her mother opened the door and started scolding her.

"Calm down, calm down." Lily jump walked into the house.

"Lily! Go clean your room right now! No dinner for you if you don't settle it within two hours." Eli ordered. She sounded serious. Lily's room had always been a complete mess. It was always either Laura or Eli who kept her room tidy. But it used to be short lived.

'Dog's tail can never be straight even if we put it into a pipe for years' … so was Lily.

She liked to stay messy.

"But Mom… I am tired." Lily complained.

"Your time starts now." Eli spoke and headed towards the kitchen.

Lily had to clean her room. She cannot afford to starve the whole night.

She went upstairs and closed her bedroom's door shut.

The sight in front of her looked so good. All her stuff was scattered all over her place. But she found it more convenient.

"Why!?" she pulled her hair out of frustration.

She soon started settling things. She first started with cleaning her study by placing her books in the book shelf, putting all the pens and pencils into the pen stand. Taking out a wet tissue from wet tissue pack, she wiped the dust off the table. The smell was good. So good.

She took a deep breath before moving on to the chairs. All her clothes were stacked upon the arm rest. She folded all her clothes hurriedly and stuffed them into her wardrobe. Her wardrobe was also a mess. So she started sorting her clothes and settled her whole wardrobe in less than thirty minutes. She closed her wardrobe and sighed. Toughest task it was. She went to take out her slippers from under the bed. She quickly removed all her books from her bed when a picture slipped from one of her books and fell on the pillow. She placed her books in the book shelf and went to make her bed. Seeing a photograph on the bed, she went to pick it up.

When she saw the photograph, she froze on the spot.
