Wen Ran lowered her head and glanced at the necklace on her neck, then said indifferently, “This necklace was given to me by my brother.”
“Huh? Miss Wen, didn’t Young Master Mo give you anything? You don’t even wear a ring on your finger. Had Young Master Mo said it, no one would have known that you two are married.”
Staring straight at Wen Ran’s pale fingers, Cheng Jia made an exaggerated expression. Her fingers were slender and empty.
Wen Ran was shocked by Cheng Jia’s comments. Her eyebrows arched and said, “The ring is just ceremonial. Since he’s happy to directly tell others that I’m his wife, I have to leave it to him.”
Cheng Jia tried to put up a smile. Wen Ran’s seemingly nonchalant ridicule was ear-piercing to Cheng Jia. She pursed her lips and changed the subject.
“Miss Wen, Young Master Mo was injured when he was a child. He’s different from other men. He has stronger self-esteem than other men. Therefore, please don’t be entangled with other men, like you did today. To Young Master Mo, that would be a kind of injury.”
The expression on Wen Ran’s face changed slightly after hearing this. Cheng Jia accused her of being tangled with the man she was seen earlier. However, what right did she have to call her out? Is she Mo Xiuchen’s mouthpiece?
“Thank you, Miss Cheng, for caring about Xiuchen,” Wen Ran acknowledged. “However, it was just a misunderstanding. I have already explained this to Xiuchen. And, honestly, Xiuchen isn’t different from other men.”
While talking, Wen Ran turned sideways and reached for the dryer to dry her hands.
“Miss Wen, your point is that you and Young Master Mo are really husband and wife?” Cheng Jia’s eyes widened as she clarified. She was surprised that Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen were indeed married.
It was rumored that Mo Xiuchen was sexually impotent, and Cheng Jia believed it to be true. However, she couldn’t wrap her head at what Wen Ran had just said.
Thinking of that night, Wen Ran smiled slightly, and her face couldn’t help but blush. To Cheng Jia, such an expression was more meaningful than any words.
“Let’s go back. Xiuchen will be anxious.”
Cheng Jia wanted to say something, but seeing that Wen Ran had turned and was walking towards the door, she pursed her lips. She had to follow her out of the restroom and back to the hall.
When they got back, the wait staff had already served the food. Mo Xiuchen stood, and he stretched out his hand to pull out the chair for Wen Ran. Then he asked curiously, “Why did it take you so long?”
Wen Ran smiled at him and replied, “I had a few words with Miss Cheng. Why didn’t you say that you and Miss Cheng and have known each other for quite some time?”
Mo Xiuchen furrowed his brows. From the corner of his eyes, he glanced at Cheng Jia, who had a hint of surprise on her face. She didn’t expect Wen Ran to say it directly.
Cheng Jia quickly collected herself and smiled. “I just had a chat with Miss Wen, and I accidentally let it slip,” she explained. “Young Master Mo, please don’t blame me.”
“I won’t.”
Mo Xiuchen turned his head and looked at Cheng Jia, then he looked at Wen Ran and said calmly, “I had only met Cheng Jia a few days ago. She rescued me more than 10 years ago.”
A hint of incredulity was evident on Wen Ran’s face. Just now, Cheng Jia said that Mo Xiuchen had an accident when he was a child, but she was quick to point out that she had forgotten what happened. Now, Mo Xiuchen told her very frankly that Cheng Jia saved him.
“It’s a pity that I don’t remember what happened at the time.”
Cheng Jia picked up the conversation at the right time. Her tone, gentle and sad, matched her expression. She appeared absolutely pitiful.
