Wen Ran’s eyes were moist, and her voice trembled. “My brother was taken to the emergency room. Mo Xiuchen, will you take me to the hospital?”

She no longer had her parents. She couldn’t bear to lose her brother. She absolutely couldn’t.

“Sure. I’ll take you there.”

Mo Xiuchen’s eyes were sympathetic. He informed Auntie Zhang, who was in the kitchen, then took Wen Ran and walked towards the door.

When Auntie Zhang came out of the kitchen, she saw Mo Xiuchen dragging Wen Ran out. She blinked and opened her eyes again. Although they had already left, she was sure that she was not dreaming—they were really there.

Her wrinkled face beamed with joy. She turned around and ran upstairs while shouting excitedly, “Old Liu, let me tell you the good news!”

Kangning Hospital was the best private hospital in G City.

When Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen rushed to the hospital, her brother Wen Jin was still in the operating room. She looked at the closed door of the operating room and stared at the words “in operation”. She felt overwhelmed with anxiety. She didn’t want to think of the worse, but gloomy thoughts keep coming in her head.

The nurse briefly explained Wen Jin’s situation to her to prepare her mentally. Wen Ran stiffened, and, holding back tears, she uttered, “My brother will be fine.”

“We also hope that Mr. Wen will be okay, Miss Wen. I just want to prepare you in case something happens. I hope you understand.”

The nurse couldn’t bear to see Wen Ran worrying about her brother. She knew that he was the only family she had left.

Wen Ran’s lips were pursed, and her palms were sweating. Tears welled in her eyes, and without her noticing it, they slowly stream down her face.

She looked up to the ceiling, trying to suppress her tears, and told herself over and over again that her brother wouldn’t leave her. He wouldn’t leave her alone.

Mo Xiuchen glanced at the nurse and motioned for her to leave first.

The nurse looked at Wen Ran and walked away. Mo Xiuchen turned his head and looked at the bench next to him. Then he looked at Wen Ran calmly and spoke softly, “We don’t know when the operation will be over. You sit down and wait.”

Wen Ran shook her head and kept staring at the door of the operating room with tearful eyes. She thought that if her brother had sense her presence, he would pull through.

Mo Xiuchen frowned, then held her wrist. Without saying anything, he gently pulled her to the bench and had her sit down on the chair. He then told her, “You wait here. I will leave for a while.”

Wen Ran didn’t struggle to stand up anymore. She just stared fixedly at the closed door of the operating room. Her pale face and slightly trembling body revealed the fear in her heart.

Mo Xiuchen bent down and stared at her for a moment. Frowning, he took out a pack of tissue from his pocket and stuffed it into her hand, then said, “If you want to cry, then cry. If you want to be strong, then suppress your tears.”

“I…I’m not crying. I won’t cry. No. I don’t need this.”

Wen Ran was trying to put up a front. She wanted to be strong for her brother. She then gave the pack back to Mo Xiuchen.

The expression in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes softened. A distant and tender voice suddenly flashed through his mind, “I didn’t cry.”

Feeling as if his heart was being fiddled with by something, he frowned, put the tissue back in his pocket, walked aside, and took out his phone to make a call.

After a while, Auntie Zhang’s voice came from the other end. “Hello, Young Master!”

“Auntie Zhang, prepare some food and send it to the hospital now,””Mo Xiuchen instructed, trying to sound casual.
