Forgotten One

Chapter 19 - Trial Rules

Lei Shu finally got to his own room. There was basically nothing in the room but a small stone slab to sleep on. He sat on the stone slab and took the rule book out. On the second page in bold: NO ONE CAN LEAVE THE TRIAL GROUNDS UNTIL THE TRIAL IS OVER. Lei Shu had already learned of this rule when the 3 men chose to leave, they had died as a result.

Lei Shu took this rule to heart and flipped the next page. It said: THE KILLING OF PARTICIPANTS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED DURING THE TRIAL. Lei Shu also took this to heart, complacency was a privilege. Although he may be safe from other participants, there was no telling what their trials entailed.

Lei Shu flipped to the next page and it was written: OTHER PARTICIPANTS CANNOT BE SABOTAGED OR PLOTTED AGAINST. The last 2 pages wrote specifically: HELP FROM EXTERNAL ITEMS IS BANNED and PARTICIPANTS MUST BE BETWEEN 16 AND 18. The sect trials are usually for juniors looking for a new sect. If someone older would like to join they must be brought by someone in the sect or they must be extremely qualified.

Lei Shu took his time memorizing all of the rules and when he finally had enough, he closed the book and placed it in the corner of the room. He had no further need for it. The biggest issue right now is the poison he and everyone else drank. He tried to vomit it out but that didn't seem to work. He sat down and tried to sense within his body. The poison he had eaten from within the Silver Coat Gorilla was still active within his body. The poison looked like a purple ball of electricity pulsing within his body, it was surrounded by a white pulsing light. The white light was containing the poison and pacifying it to a certain extent.

This was the poison and the antidote that the Jade Tiled Anaconda granted Lei Shu. First, he took his time and absorbed the antidote. Strand by strand the antidote was slowly absorbed. He opened up his pores and took in the energy, his body felt greatly refreshed while absorbing the antidote. He took each complicated strand, breaking it down into its simplest forms and then making it blend within his own energy, within his own being.

After all the antidote was refined and absorbed, the poison started acting frantic and violent. It was terrorizing the surrounding space but was healed even faster. The antidote would not let the poison act however it liked. While the antidote was counteracting and locking the poison down, Lei Shu took this time to sit back into a lotus position. Beads of sweat were rolling down his body.

He copied the same sequence, he separated each of the strands of poison, he took his time understanding each strand. After each strand was brought to simplicity, it was then absorbed. As the number of strands absorbed increased, so did his immunity to it.

After about an hour, all the poison was refined and absorbed by him. His body was giving off a slight poisonous scent due to the refining being complete. His eyes fluttered open and beneath the door was a tray. This tray included food for him to eat so he didn't starve before the trials.

Inside the tray was some form of bread, a few fruits and plants and also a small portion of common beast meat. Lei Shu had eaten much better food before, so he didn't even look twice. He scarfed down all the food on the plate and slid it under the door to the other side.

He wasn't nearly full, but his stomach had a slight bulge. He gave the meat to Billa and ate the rest himself. "Don't worry Billa. After these trials are over, I'll give you enough meat to fill you for months." Billa was curled up into a ball in the corner, he opened his eyes and swallowed the meat. After that he closed his eyes once more, falling into a deep sleep.

Lei Shu watched as Billa slept and felt as though fatigue was overcoming him as well. He laid on the cold hard stone slab and closed his eyes. By the time he had opened them it was already morning. He could hear the bustling outside; he didn't know how long he slept for.

He stretched his arms and finished the tray of food under his door. Once again, he gave the meat to Billa as he ate the rest. Lei Shu had lost a bit of weight due to the lack of sufficient food. However, it wasn't enough to affect their abilities so they wouldn't have any excuses during the trial.

Lei Shu checked on his body and realized that his body had gained a new level in poison immunity because of the poison he had refined. He looked through his body once more to check if everything was alright. Now in his abdomen was a sort of chamber. He had now developed an internal poison chamber, just like a magical beast.

However, in Lei Shu's case, he never had his own poison. Lei Shu's poison chamber isn't used to store poison in order to attack. Lei Shu's poison chamber is there in order to refine poison, after countless refinements, the fabled Ghost Poison body will be obtained.

A shadowy figure walked at his own pace down the hall and past Lei Shu's room. The man had an indiscernible voice but what he said shocked Lei Shu. "Countless refinements to have the body of a ghost. Ineffective when used by enemies and effective when used by you. To have poison pass through your body as if you were a ghost. The secret to poison immunity. Poison will cause you no harm but only benefits. Refine poison to gain a body immune to it, ah, The Ghost Poison body truly is a myth."

The figure passed by, but it was still walking in Lei Shu's heart. He explained Lei Shu's case completely. If the poison wasn't too strong, if the deadliness of the poison increased bit by bit, Lei Shu could refine it and become immune to poisons of that level. However, if the poison he is struck with is more than 1 level above his current immunity, then the poison will take full effect and his fate will rest in his own hands.

Lei Shu focused in on his abdomen, there was a lilac coloured vase-shaped bottle. Inside the bottle was a shady dark purple ball. It looked tattered as if it was about to be torn apart completely. Lei Shu took his time refining this, it was much faster than the first type of poison he refined.

As Lei Shu finished refining, his eyes had a purple haze set in around them before briefly vanishing. Lei Shu smiled, "Great, I have finally refined the poison that the participants had drank in the hall. If I don't get caught, then the rules mean nothing to me. I don't have a need to kill anyone or sabotage anyone but if I was pushed to a certain point, then the point on my dagger will be pressed against their necks.

Lei Shu was preparing to leave the room and he heard the outer areas bustling with noise. Lei Shu left his room and saw the majority of the contestants already outside. A few of them were talking to each other but some of them kept to themselves. Lei Shu took his chances and walked around listening to the various conversations. "Ok, so the trials will begin soon. I'm lucky that a few people got some inside info somehow."

After a round of walking, Lei Shu got enough information and didn't hear anything new. He turned and went straight to Tian Fu's room. He knocked on the door and heard no answer. He waited a moment and then slowly opened the door.

Tian Fu was sitting in his room and meditating. Lei Shu appeared behind him like a phantom and placed his hand on his back. "Don't panic, it is me, your Brother Lei Shu. I will start pouring a bit of my spiritual energy into you, do not reject it, just accept it and try to follow it."

Lei Shu poured a bit of spiritual energy into Tian Fu. He sent his spiritual energy throughout the entirety of Tian Fu's body. He kept searching until he found a decrepit shadowy purple ball of energy. This was the poison that had entered Tian Fu's body.

"Brother Tian, follow my energy and support it with your own."

Lei Shu took his energy and began to break down the poison. He had already broken it down to its basics in his own body so doing it once more wasn't an issue. Once he broke it down to its most simple and basic form, he began absorbing the poison into his own body in order to remove it from within Tian Fu without harming him.

Once the poison poured into Lei Shu's body it immediately got s.u.c.k.e.d into his poison chamber. Once the poison got s.u.c.k.e.d in it was immediately refined and turned into nothing. His body was already immune to this level of poison so when it was sent into his body it removed all of its effects.

Tian Fu's eyes flashed open and he noticed that the poison once tormenting his mind was now gone, just like that.

"Brother Lei, without you I would have been chained by the rules during the trial. Now I'll be able to exert my full strength. This may have been easy and quick for you, however to me, this can affect if I join the Sect or not." Tian Fu got up and dusted himself off, he bowed to his brother and took out a bit of alcohol.

The two of them drank until a loud bell sounded in the center of the Sect.

"BANG BANG BANG"

The voice of the green-robed man rung out, "All of the participants should meet up where we last left off. The trials will begin in 3 hours' time. If you arrive after the allotted time, you will be removed from the trials and lose your chance to compete. That is all for now. When we next meet it will be the end of the trials. For the first trial, one of our Elders will be your supervisor."

It really was a pain to try and sober up as fast as possible instead of enjoying it. After the 3 hours had passed, everyone had met at the same spot.

An old man with a hunched back and long white beard walked out. His beard and mustache were white, and they connected down to his knees, swaying back and forth in the air with each step. His eyebrows were also equally as long and came down from the edge closest to his ears, down to his c.h.e.s.t. Every tip of his hairs met at a sharp point, he looked old and experienced. The man was boundless yet bound. His face was filled with wrinkles and crow's feet imprinted themselves around his eyes.

A timeless voice filled the air beside everyone's ears, "Hmph, I am Elder Hansa, the bold, or the old if you will. I am here to reside over the first trial if you have any questions feel free to ask them. I will try to give you a satisfactory answer as long as it falls within the Sect Master's expectations."

The Elder's eyes flowed throughout the participants, looking over everyone. He nodded internally, the batch this year was a big improvement from last year. His eyes were calm as he looked, his old eyes jumped youthfully as he looked over Lei Shu and Tian Fu. His eyes lingered on the 2 of them for a moment before moving on to the rest.

Lei Shu whispered to Tian Fu, "Damn, with his level of cultivation he might have noticed that the poison no longer lingers in the two of our bodies. Hopefully, he doesn't bring it up or penalize us because of it."

Tian Fu whispered back, "Don't worry Brother if they don't appreciate our capabilities than they are vastly missing out. Any other Sect would greatly benefit from the introduction of the 2 of us."
