Forgotten One

Chapter 9 - Dark Horses

Lei Shu was clearly angered by the spiritual beasts. He didn't plan on spilling blood and he didn't enjoy it either. All he wanted to do was peacefully ascend the mountain. However, now 2 horses were standing in his way.

The 2 spiritual beasts that were in front of them were dark horses. Their bodies were well built and muscles could be seen bulging throughout. Their bodies were covered in black hair but their eyes were glowing ferociously red. They stood upright with their heads high in the air, never bringing them down to look directly at Lei Shu.

Lei Shu snuffed his nose and changed direction right away. He threw the poison chamber at one of the horses and dashed towards the other. The older horse recognized the poison chamber and noticed that it didn't carry a poison scent. The horse called Lei Shu's bluff and made his way directly passing the poison chamber in order to dash at Lei Shu.

"RIP RIP RIP"

A shredding sound could be heard coming from behind the old horse, it ignored the sound and kept dashing towards Lei Shu. "You fool, look underneath you."

The horse ducked its head in order to ram Lei Shu's body into a boulder. While it was lowering its head, it just kept lowering, and lowering, until it completely collapsed and fell over itself. The horse was shocked, it didn't know what happened and it tried to get back up. It tried and tried but it was unable to stand.

A bloody scent was wafting behind the horse and with it a shadow. A small black ball of fur could be seen carrying something in its mouth, blood staining the floor beneath it.

"Hehehe, even first rank spiritual beasts aren't too intelligent. Those ripping sounds were coming from the poison chamber, and also your back leg."

Billa was patiently waiting for Lei Shu's next move. He sat like a cute house pet, its tail wagging and a bone in its mouth. The horse was completely unable to do anything, it was basically dead at this point.

While the horse was still alive, Billa walked over. The same playful look in his eyes that he always had. And play he would, Billa especially loved playing with his food. While the horse was watching, Billa began to make his move.

"CRUNCH"

Billa slowly, from the bottom up, began devouring the horse. Taking his time, removing the bones and l.i.c.k.i.n.g them clean. He continued removing meat, tendons, cartilage and bone. He kept on piling the bones and would only bring the largest one along with him. He ate till his belly was full and he couldn't eat anymore. He rolled onto his side and laid on the cold ground for a minute.

Lei Shu was slightly put off but what frightened him even more were the sounds.

"NAAAAAAAAAAAY"

The sharp screams from the older horse could still be heard, literally, the horse was still alive. It managed to live throughout the whole ordeal but soon after, lost consciousness. Even though the horse was ambushed by Billa and surprised, it was still a rank 1 spiritual beast. Its vitality was above common sense. It was now missing its hind legs and also a bit of its lower belly. The horse would live throughout this ordeal but, it would become a cripple, not able to move for the rest of its life. Only a miracle would be able to help it, especially here.

The young horse could be seen with fear visibly dancing in its eyes. It was absolutely frightened by Billa, even in their village no one would dare to bully the older horses like that. If anyone would do anything, it would be one of them older horses, never did it expect a small wolf to cripple its comrade.

Lei Shu made his way over to the younger horse, debating on letting it leave or not, with that look in its eyes it must have learned its lesson. The younger horse was still looking at Billa when a man's figure covered its vision. When it saw Lei Shu it thought it finally found something to take its pain and anger out on. Without even thinking about it, the horse dashed full speed toward Lei Shu.

Lei Shu didn't expect this development, he chose to take an attacking position. When the horse was 5 feet way from Lei Shu, it went directly onto its hind legs. It lifted 2 blood red hooves into the air and stomped them down towards Lei Shu.

"CRASH"

All that was left of a boulder the size of Lei Shu were a large stump and a few pebbles. Everything else was crushed instantly into dust. That horse was absolutely furious, if it could produce fire, smoke would be fuming through its nostrils. Lei Shu quickly took his dagger and brought it across the horse's leg. Its muscles were like steel, deflecting the dagger.

Even though it was a dagger made from the tooth of a rank 1 spiritual beast, Lei Shu did not have the strength necessary to wield it to its full potential. Also, his attacks were rudimentary at best. He had a bit of combat training on Earth and the rest of it was learned from video games and videos on the internet. Everything he's been putting into practice, has been basic or copied from memory.

Some of his techniques were better but his individual perfection of these techniques isn't good.

Even though the horse missed its first attack it didn't give up. Making sure that Billa didn't move, it once again charged at Lei Shu. The horse charged and made the same exact move, Lei Shu once again jumped out of the way, this time the horse jumped to the side and stomped down. The horse feinted an attack and guessed that Lei Shu would dodge again. The horse smashed into the ground, 2 hooves were planted into the ground, leaving deep imprints.

Blood could be seen dripping; it was bright red and it was flowing down Lei Shu's left arm. He had been too late to dodge, and he had taken some damage. He smiled and charged forward, like a frenzied beast. He showed no signs of slowing down, right as he was about to strike, he fell to the ground. He slid under the horse and raised his dagger off the ground.

The horse panicked and jumped ahead, in an attempt to get Lei Shu from under his belly. Lei Shu took this chance, he immediately forced himself off the ground with all his strength. He looked towards the panicked horse and jumped onto its back.

Lei Shu was effectively horse riding, just like he had seen on Earth. This was much more like bull riding though, and Lei Shu was definitely one hell of a bull rider. He would be one of the longest ones stuck on the bull machine and only fell because he became too noxious.

Lei Shu took his empty hand and grabbed onto a handful of the dark horses' red mane. He held on for dear life and clung onto the horses' neck. The poor steed could do nothing but try to run into something. A man was sitting on its back, none of its limbs could attack and its neck couldn't turn to bite his foe. The horse despaired and planned to run into the side of the mountain as a last-ditch effort. Determination filled the horses' eyes as it knew this was its last and only chance, unless help arrived.

As the horse was running it raised its head and roared with all its might, wishing for there to be help nearby but no one came. It raised its head and roared one last time, he was planning on giving it his all, heavily injuring both of them in the process.

As it was about to hit the mountain and lower its head, Lei Shu's arms wrapped around its neck. The horses' head was completely upright and exposed, it couldn't see and kept its original path, hoping the mountain would be near. With one arm around the horses' neck, Lei Shu used the other to grab onto the dagger. He pointed the dagger across the horses' throat and patiently waited. He sat there, a boring look in his eyes, and he patiently waited.

"CRASH"

Smoke was blown into the air and nothing could be seen in a 30-foot radius. The smoke felt like it was in the air for an eternity. As the smoke settled down, 2 figures were exposed. 1 horse and 1 man. Eventually, one of the figures slipped off and fell onto the floor.

"BANG"

The horse remained in its original position. Blood could be seen streaming down the man's forehead.

"DRIP DRIP DRIP"

Lei Shu was already on the floor, a dripping sound shouldn't be this loud. It was the horse. The horse came with its head held high and left in the same manner. A dagger was the only thing separating the horse from the mountain. The hilt of the dagger was buried into the side of the mountain, the other side was stained with blood, penetrating the horses' throat.

The night was long and none of the figures made any moves for 2 nights. There was 1 lone figure constantly moving, constantly patrolling. It was Billa, he had to protect Lei Shu until he could wake up, if he could wake up.

Even though the injury didn't seem major, anything could have happened within his body.

"Huh, it isn't that easy to kill someone like me. On Earth I didn't value life too heavily, but that certainly doesn't mean I value death instead. A second chance only comes after you've lost the first, so why would I lose now!?"

He slowly lifted his arms and propped himself up onto the side of a boulder. He looked over his injuries and decided that they weren't life threatening or even too serious. He looked towards the horse on his right and looked towards his left. The other horse was dead now, Billa came over to finish the job to prevent any surprises. Lei Shu hobbled himself over and sat down beside the old horse. He patted along its body and clenched his hands when he got to its front legs.

"RIIIIIIIP

He tore off 2 legs and began to go to town. He chewed and chewed and chewed, it was the only way he could heal himself and get stronger. He didn't have the time or energy to keep remaking that medicine Mo Fen gave him.

As he ate and ate, he could feel himself getting more powerful with each gulp. Even though he didn't swirl the spiritual energy around, it sat perfectly within his body, almost like it was frozen still. With every gulp it would add onto that power, with each addition his spiritual power would become less hazy.

After a night had passed, he had devoured the old horse. He was full but he wasn't done yet. He turned his head and set his sights onto the younger horses' body. By now he could walk properly again, he stood and strode over to the young horse. He removed his dagger and dropped the horse onto its side.

He took his dagger and cut out all the thick cuts of meat and began munching. For every 3 pounds Lei Shu would eat, he'd give one pound to Billa. Billa had just enough food, he could still fight, and he had enough energy to fuel him to fight. Billa was happily l.i.c.k.i.n.g away, Billa looked as if it didn't just massacre a large horse. By the time Lei Shu devoured the other horse another 2 nights had passed. Lei Shu was sitting on a rock meditating, absorbing the power and nourishing his body. He was in deep concentration, whenever he would meditate, he would sweat immensely. The amount he was sweating could be compared to the amount of food he ate, that would mean, every time he ate, no matter how much he ate, he would barely gain weight. What a lucky man. An hour had passed, and Lei Shu's eyes began fluttering open.
