Fox Life

33 The Journal 4

The meeting went by better than Kyro had expected. Everyone had accepted that he was checking up on the new info and welcomed him with casual nods. They didn't have any real reason to doubt him, and so they didn't. Gale led the meeting without a hitch, and in two hours, they were done.

Once everyone left, Gale leaned back in his chair and brought his legs to the table. Throwing a tennis ball up, he looked over at Kyro. "You think we convinced them?"

"For today? Sure. But your father will certainly manage to rile them up again. I have trust in his skills."

"Damn that old geezer. He should go on that trip around the world he's been telling everyone about. I could use a year without him."

Kyro looked up from the documents he'd been returning to order. "And you think that'd stop him from interfering?"

Gale sent him a withering glare. "Thanks for not letting me dream." He also threw the ball over, but Kyro was ready. This wasn't something he faced for the first time.

He picked up the documents, ready to leave the meeting room for his office, when Gale spoke up again. "Is there anything else important today?"

"Ask your secretary. He has your schedule."

"But you know it anyway. Just tell me."

"Am I your partner or your assistant?"

Gale rolled his eyes and lowered his legs, sitting up straight. "Fine, I'll call him. Just for you."

"How adult of you."

Kyro shook his head and left the conference room. They actually didn't have anything too important today. There was one minor meeting with a possible investor, but it could be done by anyone else if they couldn't be bothered. The rest of the day was meant just to look over the documents, sign some, send others back for correction.

'Oh, and it's that time of the year again, new interns should be coming around. I remember promising to show up to welcome them, but it's such a waste of time. Maybe I should pass it to Gale?'

While he was thinking about that, a certain fox was looking through his old journal without any pangs of conscience. Her focus lay solely in how much she could gleam about him.

Iris was unhappy with the passages of the next couple weeks. They were empty of anything new; same university stuff, same once a week meetings with the mysterious Jane. The guy was living the most boring life there was. After going through his schedule of three months, she could tell what the next day entailed before even turning the page; it was that repetitive!

Bored, she stood up and went to eat lunch. The cat food was growing tasteless after eating it alone for the last couple days, but it wasn't like she could go into the kitchen and get something nice. It was either cat food, or starving.

On the next page, there was a drawing. The artist wasn't a master of the art, but the end result was of good quality. She could tell right away that the drawing must have required many hours of work. The lines were drawn again and again, deleted slightly, then drawn over, until they were as perfect as the artist could make them.

The drawing itself was of a girl, her face to be exact. She was caught mid-turn, smiling as she pushed her long hair behind the ear. With large eyes and full lips in a slightly rounded face, she looked like a fairy.

This might have been just the view of the artist, but Iris doubted that. The Kyro of this journal seemed like a person set in reality. He kept a schedule, attended all lectures, didn't miss any deadlines - he was like the perfect student. That's why she doubted he'd let himself revel in fantasy. The girl was probably not just smart, based on that they started with studying together after class, but also pretty.

She must have been a rare catch. 'Is that why it all failed? Kyro couldn't hold onto such a sough out creature? Or wait? Could they still be together, just not living in the same place?' Such a though brought a lot of turmoil to Iris' heart.

If he brought this Jane over, wouldn't it become extremely awkward? Sleeping with Kyro in the same room was fine, since they were friends now. But if he brought his girlfriend over… And if they did that…

Iris' ears turned red. She jumped away from the journal as if burned, shaking to get rid of the image in her head. This was a wrong train of thought, a very wrong one! 'Bad Iris, bad Iris!'
