Fox Life

84 His Friends 17

For a good minute, Iris had a face off with the egg. It lay motionless in her bowl, but she couldn't help seeing it as a troublesome opponent. Just what exactly was she supposed to do with it?

Saying that she needed to eat it was one thing, but how was that done? If she hit the egg to break its shell with her paw, all the insides would spill out and she would have to eat them with shell pieces. And the same would happen if she tried to bite through it. Seriously, how do foxes eat eggs?

She ventured near the bedroom door to see what Kyro was doing and saw that he was already at the sofa, putting down his food. 'Good for him, but I still need my tutorial…' It had been awhile since she remembered how lacking in basic fox knowledge she was.

'I guess I'll just try…' It wasn't going to hurt. Probably. If she ate some shell pieces and got sick because of them, Kyro would be at fault and she'd make him pay for it. Next time he'd find egg shells along insects in his dinner.

Still not feeling certain about this, Iris returned to her bowl and just tried to bite through the egg. This required her to open her jaw as wide as it went until she managed to slightly grasp the edges of the shell. Then, she closed her jaw.

Instantly, the shell broke, creating a small hole through which she could poke her nose. 'Oh! I see!' She suddenly understood that without hands it was actually quite troublesome to break the egg in half. Instead, her small mouth could make a hole through which she could easily eat the yolk inside.

It wasn't extremely tasty, but it wasn't too bad. At least not as alien as insects. After them, many things seemed much less weird.

Once finished, she cleaned her mouth from the aftertaste with some fresh water and went to see to Kyro. He must have been famished for he had already almost cleaned out his plates. By the time she jumped onto the sofa to see what he had for dinner, there was nothing left on the table.

"Do you want some exercise after the meal?" he asked after cleaning the tableware. Iris instantly shook her head, refusing, but it showed up that the question was rhetorical.

Uncaring about her thoughts regarding this matter, Kyro grabbed her from the ground and only then went to pick up the leash. "There was some trouble yesterday, so let's try again today, all right? It's later, so Bobby won't be around to scare you again."

Iris screamed at him in refusal, but he locked the leash on her collar and carried her out anyway. When he opened the door outside, he surprisingly didn't pass through right away. "Lucy!" he called, and the black furball slowly emerged from whether he'd been hiding. "Let's go outside. It's been a while since you went out last, hasn't it?"

Like a dutiful servant, Kyro called the elevator up and the three of them walked into it, Lucy and Kyro by themselves, while Iris was held in the latter one's hand. As she lay quiet for a moment, she wondered about the unfairness of it all. Lucy was a cat but could walk by himself, while she had to be walked on a leash even though she was a human. How did that make any sense?!

When Kyro put her on the grass, she once again refused to move, now even more pissed than the last time. Not only did he want to walk her around on a leash, he was actually doing it while his cat was freely roaming about! This was just too much!

He pulled her a bit, and the collar dug into her skin, but she didn't move a muscle. 'No, just no. I'm not moving from this patch of grass. You can't force me to do anything.' Her body might suffer a couple bruises for it, but at least her pride would remain intact.

In life, everything was about choices—and this was hers. She wasn't going to be led on a leash. Not in a million years.

Suddenly, she felt a presence behind her. Her head swiveled around just in time to see Lucifer coming up behind her and using his head to push her forward.

The scream that left her lips could have frightened the dead into waking.

She flew away as far as the leash would allow at supersonic speed. And it still was too slow. Hundreds of thoughts clashed in her mind as she panted while glaring at Lucifer, but all of them could be summarized in one sentence: the cat had used its head to push her butt forward. If this wasn't something worth dying from embarrassment for, then she didn't know what was.

"What happened?" Kyro asked, crouching down by her side, but she just screamed at him and ran away as far as she could once more. He chuckled at that, and she scowled at his handsome face that looked way too amused.

'Shut up,' she ordered and looked away, thinking of the best way to disappear into thin air. 'Where's that transporting magic when you need it? Why didn't you save yourself for a time like this instead of taking me away when I was simply sleeping in class?!'
