From Slave To Ruler

Chapter 2 - 60/40

Every man knew the fate of those Women, and the more men resisted to not let them go, the more brutal the Whippers would get in order to prevent the upcoming men from resisting. Pushing fear into their souls in advance. Whipping the eyes, nose, ears or basically anywhere around the head area was pain so unbearable that some men fainted at once because of it.

It only took 5 Whippers to cause so much pain on a person in such a short period of time, enough to make a man faint and even die if they just continue whipping for over 5 minutes.

It took an hour to divide the Women from the men, around 80 Women were Dragged to the river, pulled in the water and then either pulled in the boat for further business or the business would just be continued in the river. Even though the river was a hundred meters away, their screams and cries for help were clear to be heard.

But who could help them? This situation attracts Guards more than meat attracts a bear. A few Hundred Guards were already on the scene and 10 Whippers were leading them.

Ladies who are way to under aged(12 or less), were killed on the spot in front of their fathers as they were simply no use to a mentally corrupt place like Hawk Kingdom. They can't work and they can't be sold. They can't be used in any way here. And ladies over their 40s shared a similar fate. Except most of them were killed without a family member around.

The men who were too young or too old to work, shared the same fate although some children did escape from the scene when their fate was clear, no Guard even bothered to chase after them. As long as they aren't living in Hawk Kingdom, the King couldn't care less if they get eaten by a bear in the wild or simply starve. But yet again they could he adopted by one of the thousands of Villagers in the surrounding Area who don't qualify for Citizenship here in Hawk Kingdom.

After what these slavers seem to be calling "The Filtering", which what you've read above gives sense to such phrase. 120 "Useful" men remained in front of the Kingdom Walls which reach 10 Meters in height and 6 Meters wide. 80 "Useful" Women were sent to the river and 40 people were killed on the spot which included men they could of made use from. So many people, 3 Sh.i.p.s were needed to carry them here, now it looks like 1 of those 3 sh.i.p.s were put to waste due to their unnecessary killing spree.

Afterwards the head Whipper standing 10 meters away from the slaves, shouted several times "Silence!" while the Whippers kept hitting the Slaves for them to obey the Command until everyone remained completely quiet as they had no other option. "Alright you filthy pieces of Shit. This is Hawk Kingdom. As promised, you will be guaranteed a "Happy" Life." He said laughing like a maniac while the other Whippers and some Guards followed.

"Here you will work for free. After 10 Years, you will be set free from Slavery and can get the hell out of here for all i care. You won't gain Citizenship after 10 years if that's what you are thinking. If anything, you are here to work in mines or farms so we can turn more Citizens into Patrol Guards, Castle Guards and most Primarily Soldiers. After 10 years we don't need any of you anymore, because you will either be replaced by other slaves or Paid Citizens."

Standing in front of the quiet crowd where nobody dared to interrupt, he continued. "Any form of minor disobedience will be punished with whipping, continue to disobey, your fingers will be cut off one by one. Disobey 20 times, you swim down the River where Bears can eat you." He paused for a second to take a breath and added. "I will be kind enough to offer all of you what Jobs to pick. We need 50 Miners and 70 Farmers." From the information the Whippers gave him, he was sure that there were 120 men in this crowd. So by the King's instructions, he had to divide these people with a 60%/40% Ratio, and in this case, 70 Farmers and 50 Miners seems like the best option.

Making their only 2 Choices clear, the Head Whipper yelled. "Who Wants to Be a Farmer, Stand up and walk towards the Gate. The Guards will escort you to the other side of the Kingdom where the Farmlands are."

One man stood up, then so did the other. Afterwards they became 10, then 20, reaching a total of 33. When the Whippers counted only 33 willing to work in the farmlands, the Head Whipper was agitated. Everyone would rather work down a mine instead of on a Farmland under the scorching sun. And since they are doomed to work for 10 years, they'd prefer to get comfortable with their work as much as possible.

Deeply pissed off by this lack of people willing to become Farmers, at the top of his lungs he yelled in pure Anger. "I was kind enough to give you the option to choose, and you dare being picky. Move you Bastards."

Afterwards out of fear, without even being whipped 20 more men stood up and followed the rest of the 33. Noticing that 53 people are almost enough to meet their goal, 17 more people were Whipped until they joined the rest of the Slaves heading to the Farm Lands, whipping them would finish this little task easier I suppose. Luckily Aaron James who shared the same view with the people still remaining seated, wasn't one of the Slaves who were converted into Farmers. He would rather take the opportunity to sit longer and let his fresh leg wound rest instead of walking even if he preferred to work in the Farm Lands.

Calming down after noticing that this task is half done. He turned to the rest of the Slaves and under a calmer tone he explained something rather important for every miner to know. "Alright. The rest of you will be heading towards the mines under those hills over there. Not being able to mine anything out all day will be punished with 10 Wh.i.p.s. Don't let it happen."

Afterwards the 50 remaining Slaves were set in a single line and were led towards the mines located about 200 meters away from the Kingdom's main gate, passing the mines about 100 meters away the River met an end due to the hills, making it of course impossible for the river to continue.

This branch of the river didn't flood the Kingdom either, because it was only a branch out of many. But a longer branch leading towards the other Country where the river eventually met the ocean, made it possible for the River Branch to not bring trouble towards Hawk Kingdom, because of course the River would follow where there is more motion instead of where it is almost still (the branch here). That's why branched rivers leading to dead ends, don't cause trouble if a main river is near who doesn't face a dead end. The River was just perfectly balanced.

They used that same other branch to transport the Slaves from the other country known as Makemis but it was a tough sail because it was a 1,000km long travel and they were sailing up the river for 800 Kilometers before they joined the 200 Kilometer long Branch leading to Hawk Kingdom where the river was quite still. It was nearly a 3 week sail back.

There are two Alliances in Makemis with different points of view which led to one war after the other between Kingdoms. A lot predicting the circ.u.mstances from the war, fled the Kingdoms there and made several Camps away from them, specifically near the Border.

The people of Hawk Kingdom promised them Citizenship, free housing and a paying job. No person would say "no" to such an offer after fleeing from War. But they never predicted that a King would use his social status to enslave many men and sell many women.

Those Women ranging from, untouched, to touched, to almost under age, to almost over age cost about 300 Gold Coins when all sold together. 4,000 Houses in Hawk Kingdom paying a rent of 300 Bronze Coins monthly each, equal to 120 Gold Coins. Which is an insanely large amount. Even a Black Smith for example, with a working schedule ranging from 8 to 16 hours a day, earns on average around 20 Silver Coins a month in the "Iron Boot Alliance" while in other Alliances it can pay less or more depending on the economy. It's fairly a lot of Gold Coins.

100 Bronze Coins equal to 1 Silver Coin, and 100 Silver Coins equal 1 Gold Coin. The economy is based on these simple but yet complex currencies.

The Salaries are heavily job based. There isn't such thing as "equal pay" if one man is a Miner and the other is a Farmer. Like everywhere, the pay is based on the Career. Farmers are all hired from the King unless they are Slaves. Farmers who do get paid in Hawk Kingdom, earn 620 Bronze Coins a month. Which is enough to roughly provide at least 1 non meat based meal a day to their families throughout the month. Bread costs 5 Bronze Coins so that works to their advantage at least. At least they don't starve to death.

You would think why Blacksmiths are basically being paid undoubtedly 2,000 Bronze Coins a month while farmers who work under the scorching sun all day get 620! Well Blacksmithery is a rare craft even though a lot of products are based on Iron in these medieval times. Which means they are always busy, all year around. Making more sense of their big pay.

"One foot in front of the other. You know how it goes. Soon all of you will pickup a Pickaxe and start your work. But first we need to make sure you little bastards don't run away."

Explained the Head Whipper with no respect towards these slaves in his radar.

Afterwards several Wipers brought four wheeled wooden carts filled with Iron formed into a ball, and with a chain attached to it to prevent the Slaves from escaping. If they tried to escape they would have to consider living with a 25 Kilogram Iron Ball, because without the key, there wasn't a way to escape the shackles.
