Satro cleaned up the utensils, walked out of the kitchen and sat next to Ryger.

He collected the book that he was reading earlier on then took out a quill and some papers before drawing on it.

“For modern natural sciences, there are countless small branches of studies, but if we were to divide it into large fields of studies, there would be six of them. “

Since this was his first time coming into contact with modern natural sciences, Ryger paid full attention to Satro. He took out the notebook that Adva gifted him and began jotting down earnestly.

“The first is studying mathematical foundations then using it to deduce natural laws. The second is evolutionary secrets from studying natural specimens, and after that are profundities of the human body’s potential, realm of psychokinesis, alchemy, practical technologies, and others. Each principality has a differing focus in what they study.

As Ryger heard Satro’s explanation, he collated some information that was mentioned in The Secrets of Evolution and seemed to be deep in thought.

Satro continued, “Of the six-academic disciplines, there are more scholars that study natural law and evolutionary secrets. Be it Pioneer Gauss who studied the logical foundation of mathematics or Pioneer Antonio who studied evolutionary secrets, both of them left vast amounts of theoretical foundations for the later generation of scholars. This has resulted in the birth of many high-level scholars.”

Humanity had 3 great scholars, one of which was burned to death by the Church. The position that the two remaining pioneers occupied in the heart of scholars was quite obvious.

It’s just that he didn’t know why there was an academic book like The Secrets of Evolution In his family’s inheritance.

As far as Ryger was aware, because the book was authored by Antonio and published by the Glan Natural Sciences Academy, it received wide circulation numbering more than tens of thousands. There was nothing special about the one that he had.

Could his ancestors be related to Pioneer Antonio?

Satro stopped for a moment then resumed.  “But in recent years, the Balda Principality’s natural sciences academy has increased in strength steadily and ramped up enrolment. Quite a few geniuses has emerged there. And from what mentor said, it’s very likely that the fourth pioneer in human history will be born from there, so my suggestion to you is that it’s best to choose from natural law, evolutionary secrets and the human body’s potential.

Under Satro’s gaze, Ryger thought seriously about his future path.

Natural law was naturally what he thought to be an elemental magician, and develops through mathematical foundation whereas evolutionary secrets would be similar to transformations and develops through the dissection of specimens.

As for studying the human body’s potential, could it be the magical version of warriors?

“Senior brother, which academy did the pioneer who published Heliocentrism come from and what did he studied?

“Shh!”

Satro made a pose of silence.

“Junior brother, try not to bring it up in the future, so that you don’t involve the Church. It was because of this matter that the prosperous Utlan Natural Sciences Academy received the Church’s oppression and was monitored by the Church together with the royal family. Now, they’ve been reduced to the weakest among the Big Six1.

In spite of what he said, Satro lowered his voice and said, “Pioneer Baniwens was born in the Utlan Natural Sciences Academy and studied astronomy. Sadly, after that, the great pioneer’s research accompanied his Heliocentrism and was completely banned. The knowledge is now lost…”

“Ah”

Ryger nodded discreetly and took a deep breath. “If that’s the case then I’ll follow in mentor’s footsteps and choose evolutionary secrets.”

After hearing Ryger’s choice of academic discipline, Satro made a smile of things happening as they should.

“That’s good. I was really worried that you would choose to study the human body’s potential. “

“What’s wrong with studying the human body’s potentials?”

Satro made a strict face. “I heard from mentor that the scholars in Balda are clashing more and more frequently with the Church. According to their theories of the human body’s potentials, as long as a person can unleash their full potential, they can break through their limits and become a true god. It resembles what the ancient, wicked sorcerers believed in. They’ve begun to garner the Church’s close attention and if any one thing isn’t managed right, it’s very likely that they’ll get the Church’s oppression, the one towards heretics. And even the royal family will get implicated in all of this. It’s not something to joke about!”

“Tsss… humans becoming god by unlocking their potential? The scholars over there are very crazy!”

Ryger knew the Great Canon of Light by heart. Each and every sentence in it expounded the oneness of God and His grandness and inviolable sanctity. Ryger never would have thought that there would be people that dare challenge the Light God’s authority so brazenly and irresistibly exclaimed.

“Very crazy indeed.”

Satro put out the crystal light and shook his head, worrying for the scholars over in Balda.

“Junior brother, before learning the basic knowledge of evolutionary secrets, you need to understand the foundation for a scholar’s existence.

Ryger sat properly with his back straight and listened attentively.

Satro remembered the first initiate lesson that Mentor Kubo taught him many years ago and his gaze gradually became one of hazy reverence.

“A scholar’s academic skills, also known as magic among commoners, is not a supernatural power. The foundational ideas of research believe that there exists an objective law of truth in this vast, boundless universe of space and time. Its existence cannot be altered by any independent will. Even the Light Creator Deity that the Church believes in cannot influence its workings under any circumstances. We call it the True Law. And the discoveries from the studies and research on this world’s True Law is called modern natural sciences. “

Satro made a proud expression.

“‘Academic skills’ and ‘magic’ is nothing more than the power of the True Law that scholars master in the process of exploring natural sciences.”

“Power of the True Law?”

Ryger thought back to the incessant praises towards the Light Creator Deity in the Grand Canon of Light. It wrote that He was the source and origin of all things and that He was almighty.

Even Ryger himself had felt the infinite, majestic power back when he summoned a wisp of divine power of the Light God. The power was like the eternal will of the world, something that mortal beings could not reach for.

But the scholars believe that there exists a True Law that the Light Creator Deity could not influence?

This…

Satro didn’t say it out loud but Ryger knew what he meant. This world was not controlled by the Light Creator Deity but was in fact ruled by the True Law.

But because it was too disrespectful towards the Church, such words must not be said out in the open and can only be implied in a roundabout way.

Ryger understood the deeper meaning, looked at the gaze of warning that Satro directed at him and nodded silently,

Satro continued. “And on this foundation, scholars discovered the first never-changing True Law –  the Conservation of Energy!”

Detecting the confusion in Ryger’s eye, Satro pursed his dark lips.

“The conservation of energy roughly describes the concept that there is a balance in this realm, that force occurs in symmetry and that there is no energy born of nothing. “

Ryger still didn’t understand. “Concept of balance? What balance?”

“Hmm…”

Satro uttered each word resolutely, “If a person wants to accomplish something, then they’ll need to pay a price. This True Law can be used on all forms of energy. This includes the academic skills of scholars or other methods of survival in group-living beings as well as natural phenomenons. And even, the great god. “

“God?”

“Yes!” A god’s power does not come out of nowhere. Under their almighty appearance, there must be a certain energy source and they are paying a certain price for their own divine power. Even gods, can perish!

“Sss…”

Ryger took a deep breath. To think that such irreverent and arrogant words would come out of this honest and dull senior brother. He quickly said, “ Senior brother, you probably shouldn’t say such irreverent words in the future. You’ll invite trouble.”

“Uh, you’re right.”

Satro no longer talked about god. He thought for a moment then gave an example. “Every birth of an academic skill must obey the equivalent value of the conservation of energy. The same goes for clergymen. Every time they summon divine powe-”

“I know!”

Ryger continued Satro’s sentence with a solemn voice.

“The price that clergymen pay for summoning divine power is their own life!”
