Adva led Ryger to the second floor.

Turning on the crystal lamp inside the room, Ryger looked at the familiar furnishings in the room. Everything in his previous little room was here, including the simple testbed made of a worn-out wooden table.

Incredulity emerged in his eyes!

“All of these were moved here by your mentor. He said that every scholar has their own familiar experimental surroundings. Don’t look at how taciturn he is normally and think anything of it. When it comes to academic matters, he’s very serious. And don’t blame your mentor for his icy face. He is an old-fashioned, inflexible old man who has been researching academia for a long time.”

Ryger pursed his lips and gave a happy “mn” sound.

Adva saw this and a slight smile.

“Your senior sister lives in the room next to this while your mentor and I live on the third floor. He usually likes to go to the roof in the middle of the night to look at the stars. Rest well. I’ve dealt with your senior sister. She won’t disturb your rest today.”

“Heeheehee.”

Enid waved her hand and laughed, “Good night, junior brother.”

“Good night, senior sister!”

  A few moments later.

Adva left. Ryger silently closed the room door and turned around to look at everything in the room.

In addition to everything in the room he had rented, there was also brand new furniture in this room. A painting of sunflowers and children under the Sun with bright smiles was hung on the wall.

Lying on the bed, his body sinked into the soft mattress. The brand-new mattress emitted an indescribable fragrance. Ryger looked at everything in the room and was flooded with happiness.

“Mentor… right, the Starcore necklace!”

Ryger couldn’t wait to start studying the Starcore that fused with himself.

“According to the information the old man left, the Starcore records information of valuable resources in the continent that have been explored in this world, as well as《Self Control》which he created with his lifetime of wisdom.”

The information of resources recorded in the Starcore was easy to understand. It was precisely the Starcore’s ability of appraisal.

If the information is true, it means that the combined land of the many human principalities and charted territories of foreign species — elves, dwarves, werewolves, bloods, gnomes, dwarves, barbarians, etc — only accounts for a minuscule fraction of the Star-Veil continent?

“Self Control.”

As Ryger muttered, the words《Self Control》appeared in front of him.

《Self Control》is a supportive ability the old man created in this world in order to better adapt to this world. According to him, it seems that this world and the world of Aurora that he lived in are tremendously different?

Ryger couldn’t imagine what other worlds are like. Even his understanding of StarVeil was limited to the territory near the human principalities only.

Ryger continued to look at the brief introduction of the first stage of 《Self Control》.

The first stage: Self-control of the muscles.

Due to the limit of food and energy supply, the human body usually exerts only 20% of its capabilities. Only in extreme situations will it open its potential and exert 100% of its potential.

Through refining flesh-corroding poisons, endangering the cells, then applying antidotes, the continuous process of poisoning and detoxification will stimulate the secretion of adrenaline, resulting in the elevation of the body’s ability to adapt to adrenaline. Gradually, this will liberate the body’s cell and allow it to exert its full potential.

Uh?

“According to the explanation of the first stage, the body functions that humans can normally exert uses only twenty to thirty percent of the body cells?”

Ryger couldn’t understand why that extra body function had to be hidden?

After a long moment, Ryger shook his head.

“If the theory is true, this way of growth which violates normal body functions will surely cost the body in other ways. Otherwise, this way of growth – poisoning the body then detoxifying it continuously to stimulate the body’s adaptability – is too absurd. According to reactions of body functions, I’ll probably die of renal failure if I do it. I mustn’t try it on myself rashly and should study it carefully… “

Time passed.  Ryger fell asleep amid his chaotic thoughts. .

The next day.

Compared to the once lively atmosphere of the Academy with wandering scholars, merchants, and mercenaries of all sorts, the current Glan Natural Sciences Academy was obviously much more depressed and desolate.

Ryger followed after Kubo and felt some discomfort. He glanced at the surrounding changes.

" "

Radiant knights which were heavily armed patrolled around openly in the Academy, constantly questioning passers-by, tirelessly searching from door to door and interrogating each store. Everybody that was investigated acted carefully.

“Stand still!”

Wearing silver metal armor and holding a large sword, a radiant knight on a horse stopped a mercenary. The metal longsword pointed straight at the mercenary, as if warning soundlessly that any suspicious movements will result in the mercenary being deemed a heretic and suffer from the most severe blow.

“What are you doing? Why are you in the Academy? Where are you going? Who are you meeting?”

Compared to more refined armor of the knights bred by nobles, it was possible to faintly feel the blessing of light on the surface of the knight’s armor.

This knight on the horse who was more than 2 meters tall revealed only a pair of eyes through his helmet’s slit. High and mightily, he looked down at the mercenary to examine him.

Perhaps this mercenary was far stronger than the radiant knight, but he didn’t do anything suspicious. He took out a  proof of identity and said calmly, “I’m going to the House of Dwarves smithy to retrieve the weapon I commissioned a month ago.”

After a good amount of time, the mercenary who underwent strict checks was released by the knight.

For Kubo and Ryger, their journey was relatively calm because of their scholar clothes.

“Apply for a proof of identification a while later. The Academy is currently undergoing an extreme period. Do not clash with these knights of the Church.”

After advising Ryger, Kubo peeped through the window at the desolate scene of the Academy and said helplessly , “If this continues, the Academy can’t even start normal activities!”

  Education office.

Thick paperwork piled up on his desk. Kubo was irritated.

“You have three choices. Join class 1. This is the special class of the Academy. All students in this class are sent directly from the royal family and get an advantage when it comes to distributing resources; join class 4. Class 4 is the class with the best average results of this batch of students and is also the class with the most intense fight over the first 100 of the Academy’s honour roll; join class 11. The students currently occupying the first and second spot of this batch’s honour roll are in this class.”

Less than two months after school started and the classes have already been differentiated and designated?

An honour roll is a rank among initiate students of points. The points are obtained by contributing towards an academy’s academic development. And since power is knowledge for scholars, the honour roll reflects roughly the strength of students!

There are three ways to compete for an academy’s honour roll

The most common one is specimen collection. By acquiring natural specimens that have research values and contributing them to the academy, the academy will, depending on the specimen’s value, award points.

Specimens that have research values are at least level 1 proteuses, mutants of level 0 creatures, or rare species. What is worth noting is that contributing brand new specimens that the Glan Natural Sciences Academy has not encountered will result in the Academy awarding the student a tremendous number of points!

The second way is by academic papers.

It can be an academic paper, a theoretical paper, or a discovery paper. No matter which one it is, the Academy has specialized mentors to rate it and determine the corresponding contribution points.

However, since the academic papers of the junior students are often similar in the eyes of the senior scholars, general academic papers are inevitably rated as garbage and awarded only one or two points, or even zero points. But for the few innovative ones, they will be awarded a tremendous number of points!

The final method is the annual exam.

Every annual exam has different topics and so the points earned by the results differ vastly.

" "

As for the benefits of the honour roll?

Every 3 months, students can, according to their honour roll points, choose rewards from their academy based on their needs. They can choose to obtain gold cores, magic tools, alchemical materials, natural specimens, academic papers, study opportunities, and even visits to the Royal Sciences Academy, designated tutors and others.

However, the more outrageous the rewards, the more outrageous the points needed and the more impossible it is to get it.

When Ryger was learning from senior brother Satro, Satro kept reminding Ryger that if he gets a precious natural specimen or an academic inspiration, he must contribute it to the Academy for honour roll points once he is done studying it and not sell it to merchants for short-term gains.

The first and second place of this year’s first year students’ honour roll are both in the same class?

Ryger really wanted to say that he wanted to go to class 4, so he could meet his friend Auen. But when the word was coming out of his mouth, he instinctively changed it. “Mentor, I want to go to class 11!”

Kubo looked at Ryger and calmly said, “Class 4 is more suitable for you.”

“No!”

Ryger gritted his teeth and made a yearning expression.

“I must aim for the first place in the honour roll. Like what senior brother Peerless once did, I will eclipse all the self-proclaimed geniuses of the same batch. I will make all the pretentious students of the same class despair, and become the ultimate challenge for all scholars!”

Ryger looked at Kubo with shining eyes . He added another part inwardly, ‘and to obtain your personal acknowledgement’!

“Hum…”

Kubo grunted. Whether it was mocking Ryger’s arrogance and overconfidence, or because he was moved by Ryger’s sharp words  and interested, was unknown.

Picking up a goose quill, and without the slightest delay, Kubo said, “Take this letter of introduction and report to Class 11.”

“Yes!”

Ryger took the introduction letter and left for the lecture building.
