All successive chancellors of the Glan Natural Sciences Academy have been picked by the royal family. They were mysterious and powerful, and rarely show their faces.

Down the hierarchy are the vice chancellors and emeritus principals.

The position of vice-chancellor is one of the most important qualifications to enter the Glan Principality’s Royal Committee on Fellowship. At this level, they will no longer pay too much attention to specific matters of the Academy. They, who have reached the Principality’s core of powers, use the position of the Academy’s emeritus principals to influence matters on a wider range.

Further down are the head-of-years for each year. Each of the three years of the academy has a head-of-year and a deputy.

Ryger’s mentor, Kubo, is the head-of-year for this batch’s first year students.

In a spacious meeting hall with heavy metal doors that spoke of solemnity, and a giant round table, six figures sat while looking at each other. They were the six head-of-years.

“It’s been seven years since we’ve got the best results in the six academies’ graduation test. Last year, especially, we not only lagged behind Sealand but was also surpassed by Balda. The two head-of-years left the Academy in shame. If this goes on, what ground will the Academy have left to stand equal to the Sealand academy!”

The person who spoke was a middle-aged female scholar flipping through a black notebook. Her tone was thin and stiff and she seemed to be a person who was even more rigid and stubborn than Kubo. She was also one of the Academy’s radicals who wanted the Academy to greatly support the research and study on dissimilative psychism.

The mood was oppressive inside the meeting room.

Smacking his cigarette, Brimstone, whose shoulder was stood on by a black crow, quietly looked at the silent Kubo.

Seeing that Kubo had no intentions to say anything even after everybody looked at him, Brimstone smiled helplessly. He would have to answer for Kubo.

“What do you suggest then?”

The crow on Brimstone’s shoulder, looked over with one of its eyes.

The female scholar sneered. Even if Kubo is avoiding the questions, she would still pursue closely.

“Adhering to tradition will only cause us be eliminated by the times! In recent years, as the natural specimens of the Accipit Jungle get hunted rampantly by the nearby scholars, the number of specimens has already shown a significant trend of decreasing. And all programs of artificial breeding have failed. If this goes on, the Academy is just slowly killing itself. Dissimilative psychism is where the future is. I once again propose that the Academy must greatly support the research of dissimilative psychism and decrease the disparity of funding between it and research of evolutionary secrets!”

The female scholar stopped for a moment.

“Moreover!”

Her gaze turned to Kubo.

“Kubo, that disciple I took in has already obtained the Academy’s review panel’s acknowledgement and has been granted the epithet of Psyker officially. Although the honour roll’s results haven’t been revealed officially, he is already far ahead of other students. Hehheh, on one hand you need to rely on dissimilative psychism to get results for you but on the other you continuously hinder the development of dissimilative psychism. Don’t you feel shame at your hypocrisy?”

Unlike his previous outbursts, Kubo, at this moment, was unusually calm.

After adjusting his black-framed glasses, Kubo looked at the female scholar and said in a quiet voice, “I’ve seen that disciple of yours. He’s quite good. Quite deserving of the epithet of Psyker.”

Several people’s eyes turned to the female scholar.

The female scholar had a proud expression and didn’t shy away from the many gazes. She replied, “As far as I know, Master Kubo also has a disciple among the new students. Huehue, I wonder why I can’t see this disciple’s honour roll points. Trying to lay low, perhaps?”

The female scholar was naturally talking about Ryger.

Kubo remained calm and mocked, “Mayhaps Your Excellency should raise a disciple comparable to Peerless before you try appraising my disciple!”

“You!”

The female scholar’s shame turned to anger. “If not for Peerless Gariel, why can you even rely on to be valued by those above and face off against me!”

“Hoho.”

Kubo looked around and methodically said: “Regarding dissimilative psychism, I maintain my previous stand of following the theories of the pioneers. No living being’s evolution can go against natural law and evolutionary secrets. Using malformed, abnormal cancer cells as the source of evolution and replacing normal cells with it will result in a price. It’s just that now, the price hasn’t shown itself yet because of a lack of time!”

Because the matter concerned the future of the Academy, the other scholars present who were silent didn’t dare to decide haphazardly.

As Kubo said, dissimilative psychism was an academic discipline that was formed 10-plus years ago by this female scholar after years of dedicated research. At its inception, it had caused a huge sensation in the Academy.

This academic discipline more or less broke certain theoretical laws in Antonio’s 《The Secrets of Evolution》. Among the radical faction at that time, many felt that this female scholar would become the fourth pioneer!

But as the conservative scholars, with Kubo as the head, opposed strongly and pointed out the extremely terrible risks that would surely accompany the usage of cancer cells’ latent characteristics to replace normal body cells, people began to calm down and treat the matter rationally.

Is dissimilative psychism a great discovery of the True Law that broke away from 《The Secrets of Evolution》, or does it still stand within its framework, only that the price to be paid has been delayed?

After all, according to the law of equivalent exchange1, if one wants to accomplish something, then one must pay a price!

The powerful characteristics exhibited by dissimilative psychism not only violated the theory of survival of the fittest in 《The Secrets of Evolution》, but it also subverted the basic law of equivalent exchange!

If dissimilative psychism isn’t a completely new great discovery of the True Law, then according to the law of equivalent exchange, a price must be paid to achieve something. Looking at the tremendous power that this academic discipline has shown, the price needed to explain such power is most probably something unimaginable…

When a conflict occurred between humanity’s pioneers with this unknown female scholar’s theorem, most scholars would unquestionably choose to believe in the pioneers whose theorems have been experimentally verified millions of times.

In this way, dissimilative psychism in the next ten years or so was limited to exchanges between extremely few scholars of the Academy and did not get the Academy’s financial support. It only had an inconspicuous laboratory in the Royal Sciences Research Institute.

As time passed.

The price to be paid that people waited for never did emerge, and at the same time, the female scholar’s strength grew day by day. Many began to waver. Were they wrong?

And what accompanied it was the challenge for scholars studying evolutionary secrets – the problem of collecting specimens!

For scholars studying evolutionary secrets, a key step in their advancement is in the collection of specimens to elevate their awareness of self.

But as the number of human scholars grew, so did the demand for natural specimens. Yet the number of specimens available has reduced significantly compared to a thousand years ago. The time required to collect specimens has increased and studying has become harder.

Thus, people began to look for various solutions.

But be it public museums, artificial breedings and other plans, all of it ultimately ended in failure and scholars had to venture to uncharted places to look for specimens.

Even Kubo’s incomplete academic discipline of atavistic cloning is one of the many academic studies that aim to solve the problem that evolutionary secrets scholars face. It concerned taking the blood of some low-level proteuses, cultivating the genes of ancient proteuses and restoring some precious biological specimens that had gone extinct.

The female scholars calmed down and inadvertently looked at her own fingers.

Her fingerprints were slowly wriggling. And even some of the components beneath it seemed to be out of control – coming to live and wriggling occasionally. Soon enough, they were bound by her energy field and temporarily calmed down.

These scenes that to others was horrifying, was something that she had gotten used to after 10-plus years.

More than a decade ago, when she had just published dissimilative psychism, her research was not acknowledged because it went against the two pioneer’s theorem. As a result, she was disheartened and hit rock bottom. She faced the many suspicions hurled at her alone.

However, as time passed, day after day…

Those who once questioned her were now not even worth mentioning compared to her power. Her heart has gotten stronger than ever before, and she would no longer withdraw. Even if she must face the two pioneers’ theorems on her own, even if faced with suspicions and questions from thousands of scholars, she would no longer retreat!

“The True Law will never be extinguished by violence. The ways by which celestial bodies operate is something even the so-called Light Creator-Deity can never change.”

The female scholar muttered the famous words of the deceased Pioneer Baniwens. Her eyes were incomparably determined and resolute!

“Even the two pioneers, Adolfo Gauss and Antonio, only discovered the True Law in their respective stages. They do not represent the True Law! The moment I discovered the brand-new True Law of dissimilative psychism, they have become like the Church to me – old forces standing in the way towards a great, new era!”

Aside from Kubo, all that heard her words, even Brimstone, was slightly moved.

The raw uses the law of conservation of energy. But combined with what comes after the sentence, the law of equivalent exchange fits better.
