As the three climbed higher up, the thinner the air got and the more apparent Ryger’s frail physique became.

Although he relied on his strong will to support him, he still became the laggard of the party. In the end, he could only lay down on Kyubey’s back with the help of Lulu.

On Kyubey’s back, Ryger silently looked at Logic and Lulu and didn’t feel good.

“I’ll have to ask for guidance from Merlin for the related knowledge of 《Self Control》. Even if not to support me in a fight, then at least to ensure I can move freely.”

“Ice mole!” shouted Ryger all of a sudden. But what followed was a feeling of vexation.

The ice mole’s speed was truly too fast. Ryger was only able to take a look at it before the gray-white animal disappeared among the crevices. This little creature possessed the ability to tear through snow and rocks. Trying to catch it in such an environment of icy mountain was nigh impossible without sufficient preparations. Not to mention that in Ryger’s current state, even moving was a problem.

Logic and Lulu didn’t even notice. “What ice mole?”

In terms of value, this mole wasn’t that much lower than an elemental bubble, enough to exchange honour roll points.

In such a manner.

Instead of taking a day and a half as planned, they used a full two days and a half to traverse the mountain ranges and reach their destination.

Splash… sploosh…

This was a boundless large valley.

At the middle of the valley was a large sea that went on as for as the eye could see. Because of the lower altitude, the temperature was noticeably higher, like during a summer, compared to before. Raging sun rays shot at the vast beach and a slight fishy wind blew.

“Wow!” exclaimed Ryger and Lulu at the same time. This was their first time seeing the sea, albeit an inland one.

Cosy sea wind blew at the line of coconut trees. It was truly beautiful.

Ryger no longer pitied the lost opportunities of collecting specimens while on the way here. He walked straight to a coconut tree then sat down, leaning against the coconut tree. Using his remaining strength, he said to Uncle Logic, “uncle, help me shake this coconut tree strongly.

Uncle Logic had run to the seaside and washed his face with seawater, not caring about the corrosiveness of seawater towards skin. Hearing Ryger’s request, he snapped his head towards Ryger. “What?”

“I… I… I want to confirm if coconut trees are spiritual or not!”

After he finished blurting out, Ryger covered his head and closed his eyes.

……

5 days after.

Lulu lay down on the beach under a coconut tree’s shade. To her side was a pile of opened coconut shells.

Over the past few days, Ryger asked Logic and Lulu to constantly kick the coconut trees so that he can test coconut trees’ spirituality. These coconuts were the ripe coconuts that fell down one by one when they did so.

“Magicians really are strange. He came all the way out there to test whether coconuts would drop on his head or not of all things. Mmm…” said Lulu, bored.

Far in the distance, Kyubey was running over while biting a large conch shell in his mouth. The conch was in the 2 colours of green and yellow and the conch had weird, black tentacles extending out from it. This was a vile conch that was unique to the Salt Sea. It emitted a unique fishy smell. Ryger collected only 2 of it as conventional specimens before he ignored it.

“Put it there. He he, tonight, we’ll be drinking conch soup!”

Kyubey howled and threw the vile conch to the side.

On the other side.

Currently, Ryger had completely casted away the mysterious, elegant look that scholars usually have. After taking off his scholar clothes, he wore only a short pant. With Uncle Logic’s help, he climbed to the top of coconut trees and with a quill and a notebook, attentively recorded the coconut trees’ change in energy field the moment a coconut fell. Deep in his eyes now was the pleasant surprise of enlightenment.

The evolution of nature’s beings was so wondrous!

Ryger had never thought that he would research coconut trees so deeply. After a few days of microscopic observation, Ryger gradually came to understand the key parts of a coconut tree’s ‘spirituality’.

In other words, so long as Ryger’s energy field met the requirements, it won’t be long before he is able to make Spiritualism his second basic academic skill!

“Huff…”

Ryger let out a breath and slid down from the top of the coconut tree.

Uncle Logic casually cut open a coconut and handed it to Ryger, who gulped the water down.

“That side of the Salt Sea is in the territory of Sealand.”

Murmured Uncle Logic, who then also cut open a coconut and gulped it.

Ryger threw the coconut shells to a side and looked contentedly at his own Spiritualism notes. “Finally done with the structural analysis of Spiritualism. Sadly, my energy field as it is now still can’t imitate a second basic academic skill.”

Ryger shook his head. Looking at Lulu who sat under a coconut tree’s shade far away, he walked over together with Uncle Logic. Regarding the Sealand Principality mentioned by Uncle Logic, Ryger didn’t care.

Under the coconut tree’s shade, Lulu got up and said laughingly, “No more of observing your coconuts?”

“It’s done!” said Ryger jovially. “I’ve already achieved the goals for this trip!”

“But, this is my first time coming to the Salt Sea and I’ve heard that because of the special geological movements, there’s a lot of peculiar, mutated creatures here. If you’re not in a hurry, you can accompany me tomorrow to collect some specimens!”

He then added, “of course, I’ll pay for it correspondingly.”

“Sure, sure!”

Lulu agreed gladly.

Logic also nodded his head. Since there’s money to be earned, he naturally had no problems with it. He treated it completely as accompanying this young master on a walk.

Ryger then walked to the pile of conch shells and rummaged through it but soon shook his head. He found nothing of value.

The beach was vast.

Now, it was sunset and the scenery was eye-popping. Lulu and Uncle Logic were busy cooking dinner while Kyubey was shaking his tails nearby and Ryger was reading a book with the aid of a crystal light while leaning on a coconut tree. The cosy sea-breeze blew, and it was indeed free and relaxed.

Time passed unnoticed.

After dinner, while clutching his longsword, Uncle Logic glanced at the night sky’s Moon. His eyes seemed to be filled with many stories. He leaned against a coconut tree and slept. Lulu and Kyubey, after playing for a while, snuggled against each other and slept.

Only Ryger stayed awake. Under the light of the crystal light, he read tirelessly. Unconsciously, as if completely drawn in by the knowledge contained with the book, his breath became slightly ragged. His eyes scanned the words of the book with singular focus, not paying attention to anything else.

Splash…

Moonlight illuminated the land. The tide rose up the shore.

Suddenly, Ryger’s gaze broke away from the book and moved upwards to the Moon in the sky, then at the tidal waves1at the beach far in the distance with eyes wide open, as though he got a great epiphany.

“Tidal waves… are formed because of gravitational influences from celestial bodies? Such imagination! This book’s author is… Karerov?”

Ryger shook his head slowly.

“A nameless author that I’ve never heard of. But if this is true… will there be a day when I discover the essence of this macroscopic, great power, uncover the True Law within and from that, obtain the power to overturn the sea?”

Under the boundless moonlight, a diminutive human silhouette gazed up quietly at the endless starry sky, thinking, dreaming, wondering.

~~~~~~
Alright. That’s the end for now.
I originally planned to stop  at chapter 44 but since this chapter cuts off nicely, I’ll end it here.
Title
The next part is what I’d call the end of the prologue and I plan to release all those chapters together. And since I’m going to be really busy soon, I guess I’ll see you in 2 months time?
Footnotes
The raw uses tidal surge which I don’t really think fits the context(?)
