Chapter 34:Thank You For Taking Care of My Man

Felix looked around carefully. Nothing seemed out of place, but his instincts smelled a rat, a very cornered and frightened rat. However, before his hunt could begin, the Hunter had to defend himself from a very violent assault as the door blasted open.

Zen thought that Akiko was here, but the person was too tall to be her. Instead, he heard a man's voice and Zen rejoiced. His big brother was here!

"Thank you for taking care of my man, but I'm not that generous to share him, so you'd need to leave."

At first, Felix did not understand what the Seer was talking about. However, he recalled the strange news going around that the Seer picked up a stray puppy who made good food. Things clicked, and Felix laughed. The rat in the laundromat turned out to be the nerdy kid ranked dead last. No wonder Felix could not find them. They were good at hiding, just like how they hide in the opening ceremony.

The dagger tore Liu Feng's sleeve, and Felix quickly flipped over the blind man, making a beeline to the blasted exit. "I'm not here to play with you, Seer. Take better care of your pet if you don't want him to die too early."

With that, Felix escaped, and Liu Feng did not chase.

"It's alright now, Zen. You can come out. Akiko was stalled by Johan, so I hurried as fast as I could. Guild Carnage has spread out to capture all four submission stations. Thankfully, Sasha and the other could hold the fort in the cafeteria. I'm afraid the initial strategy would not work now."

Zen bumped his head against the dryer's roof as he clambered out of it clumsily. Liu Feng had to help him out as Zen's legs tangled from sitting in an odd position for too long.

"Don't worry about it," he told Liu Feng. "It's just some side distraction and reshuffling. The plan and objective have never changed. We don't want to fight Guild Carnage. However, we need to hold our fort. Just one is good enough. If Guild Carnage wishes to monopolise most of the submission stations, we will let them. If the Amazonian is stuck in the library, we should keep her there. At the same time, we needed to disable Party Undead so that Johan will be forced to guard one of the stations while Felix finds a way to secure this location. If all three of them are too busy guarding the stations, they will not have time to look for the right eggs. Eventually, their aim is to fight the Basilisk and claim the event reward. They don't care about rankings."

Liu Feng agreed. Guild Carnage worked very differently from them. They were simply powerful soloists who have grouped together to take down a common target. Nobody knew for sure what was going to happen if the Basilisk appeared. Will Guild Carnage fight among themselves to kill the boss monster?

As Liu Feng and Zen made their way carefully to the cafeteria, Zen observed the level of destruction the school suffered. The event had only started, but already, crater holes and half-destroyed buildings were seen. He did not know who was responsible for this large scale damage, but zen knew now how lucky he was to be spawned within a flag zone. Flag zones and spawn zones were probably the only places with damage immunity.

"That's it!" Zen panted as he tried to keep up with the blind man. "We can identify the spawn areas by causing environmental damages!"

Liu Feng saw how much Zen struggled to keep up with his speed, so the Chinese man bent down and swept Zen off his feet and into his arms. Zen's mind blanked out at the bridal style of carrying while Liu Feng ran. He only held on tightly to the older teen and screamed when they jumped off the fifth floor.

"What do you mean?" The Seer asked, not even panting as he ran through the destroyed zones.

Zen recalled how the door was blasted open in the laundromat, but the building structure remained uncompromised even if Liu Feng's kick should have obliterated the wall. Not many people would notice this right off the bat, but Zen was different. He played so many games as the useless third young master in the Taro family that he was an expert at identifying bugs.

"Your kick should have destroyed the wall instead of just the door," Zen told Liu Feng and clung tighter to the Chinese man who leapt from collapsed concrete to unobstructed spaces. "It's a system limitation implemented to protect spawn areas and submission stations. At least according to game system designers, they have to include immunity to important locations for the event or quest to function. It can be called a game bug, but we can use this method to identify and confirm important game locations before even the egg spawning starts."

When Liu Feng heard this, he was impressed. Not many people in the mafia played games. Even if they did, they would not have known about such logic. Zen's ability to find flaws despite such a chaotic situation only meant that the boy was gifted. He did not fear death even if he feared heights. How peculiar.

"Understood. We're almost there. Stay in the kitchen and continue to monitor the situation. You're the one in charge of this battlefield, don't hesitate to use us to win this. Sasha is there. We will stop Carnage from approaching. Your survival is our top priority, Akiko's orders."

Zen nodded and thanked Liu Feng. The cafeteria building looked battered, but it was still standing. Zen quickly told Liu Feng about what he needed if the Seer had any chance to come across the eggs.

"I don't need the eggs intact. I just need their useful parts for crafting. Be careful of the black egg. It explodes. If you can somehow destroy it before it explodes, we should be able to find some gunpowder."

Hearing that, Liu Feng agreed. This was much easier. "No guarantees, but I will try. Craft as many eggs as you can. Do not leave the base or ditch Sasha."

Zen wasted no time and relayed the message to Akiko and Match about the game bug. At the same time, he kept tags on Tracer and Gambler, who were previously on the run. Thankfully, assistance came on time. Scorpion poisoned the Shredder, who retreated, but in return, Controlled Berserker was hurt. Things weren't looking too good for everyone.

"You're here!" Sasha exclaimed when she saw Zen. The sniper rifle was lowered, and Sasha ushered Zen into the kitchen, where a few other people took refuge. They were armed to the teeth, and someone tossed Zen a gun.

"I know you're not trained, but you should still hold onto it," Oriole told Zen. The girl looked tired, but she still smiled. "If you see an enemy, point it at them, pull this safety down and fire."

The weight of a revolver in his hand felt odd, and Zen would very much hold a kitchen knife, but he agreed. Everyone waited tensely, and Zen looked around. The kitchen was usually a familiar space to him, but now, he couldn't even recognise it as tables, fryers, fridges and shelves were destroyed. Many were charred, and some had bullet holes.

Just what kind of situation were they in?
