Godfather World

Chapter 39:Thorny Path

"You're not going to be helpful here," Tracer told the party, attempting to poke at a poisoned spiky egg with his weapon. The egg simply remained unmoving and refused to be shoved into the empty flour sack.

The teen looked offended at Tracer. Who was this newcomer who looked like he was going to die if the wind blew him a little too hard?

Gambler looked at the four runts and sighed. "Go help those in the shooting range. Have you not heard? The healing and stamina buffs require eggs. The easiest to collect are red eggs. Once you collect the red eggs, help with the yellow egg runs. Leave one of the flour sacks behind. We have a poison expert coming over."

Hearing that there was an easier task and someone more capable of handling the situation, the party left quickly without a word of thanks. They were fed up with dealing with stubborn blue eggs that could kill a person.

"Whoever your poison expert is, tell them to beware of the thorns in the bushes. It's not just the eggs that are poisonous. If it wasn't for the Death Princess coming over to give us health recovery eggs and warning us, we would have died. This entire garden is booby-trapped."

Tracer thanked the teen, who left quickly. Then, he turned to Gambler, who was munching on a hard-boiled egg.

"About our bet…"

"If we make it through this event," the Gambler told him. "There's no use complicating matters and overwhelming Zen. He's swamped from all the guild reports and information while cooking. I'm sure he needs all kinds of eggs for something big, but we don't know what he has in mind. Who would have thought about cooking eggs in a time like this? Moreover, he was able to discover uses for eggs that were merely points."

Tracer laughed. "It's a good thing he found it. If he did not, we would have a hard time against Guild Carnage. From what I see, only Felix and Johan are moving around. Party Undead is still sitting in that dojo. They've given up on rankings. I think Johan must have told them to guard the post. The Amazonian is also in the library. She's guarding it so tightly that nobody can enter it. We can't take the Amazonian out, but we could negotiate with her."

Surprised that Tracer was thinking of messing with Guild Carnage's top three powerhouses, the Gambler blinked.

"Sorry, but if you want to do that, you're on your own. We were tasked only to deal with Party Undead. The assisting of the Egg collection is for a bigger picture. I can go along with you for these two things but most definitely not accompanying you on your suicide mission to talk to that musclehead boobs babe. I don't want to die."

Before they could discuss more, the couple appeared. Controlled berserker looks a little pale, but he was definitely not bloody and wounded from what Tracer remembered.

"How are you holding up?" he asked the pale dark-haired teen.

"They gave me some eggs to eat, and that stopped the bleeding."

Jessica supported her boyfriend with a worried look. The Shredder did more than just scratch him. Tracer and Gambler decided to split off from the group and told the couple to hide in a safe place while they thought of ways to end the game early. However, they never expected Zen to invent a healing item.

"How many eggs did you eat?" Gambler asked, and Jessica counted four.

If eating four eggs and healing 20% of Controlled Berserker's health did not do much for him, Tracer hated to think of what would happen if Zen did not discover the healing item. Perhaps, their party would be missing two members by the end of the event. If Controlled Berserker dies, the Scorpion would not want to live either. Committing a lover's suicide didn't just happen in stories.

"I have some here," Tracer told Controlled Berserker and Gambler helped Jessica take care of her fiancé.

"Leave him to us," Tracer reassured the Scorpion. "I will make sure he doesn't die. On the other hand, we need your help."

The emptied flour sack was pushed over, and the female assassin looked at it. The garden was empty, and she finally understood why her presence was so urgently required.

"It's a poison garden?"

Tracer shrugged as Gambler fed the weakened berserker another egg, patting him on the back when he choked. Scorpion listened as Tracer explained to her what he analysed.

Her job was simple. Jessica looked at the flour sack and estimated that she could collect about a hundred eggs in this huge thing. She simply did not know if there were a hundred eggs in here for her to collect.

"Guard him well," she told her party members and headed into the garden, ignoring moving vines and thorns.

Compared to this thorny path and booby-trapped garden, her childhood training was rougher. Compared to the scorpion pit she had to sleep in, the garden was considered cute.

The first blue egg pricked her, but the poison did nothing. If anything, her blood made the blue egg cry in pain when her blood made contact with its shell. The shell was tough, Jessica had to admit. Normally, it would have melted upon contact with her blood. That was how concentrated the poison was in her blood. This blue egg was nothing to sneeze at if it could withstand her poison.

Just like that, the first blue egg was added to the empty flour sack. Jessica ignored the vines and thorny branches. There were more eggs to find. Thankfully, they had a unique colour and stood out in this green scenery.

Tracer smiled when he saw how easily Jessica collected the blue eggs. Indeed, this was a job only she could do. After this, the couple should recuperate at the cafeteria with Zen before they deal with Party Undead. Revenge was best served cold. Unlike them, the Shredder was heavily poisoned. If he wasn't dead yet, he was very crippled. It was a perfect opportunity for a rematch. If possible, Tracer wanted to wipe Team Undead out in this event.

Zen might want to adopt a no offence strategy but not him. He was here to pave the way to greatness for the man he chose to support as the next Godfather.
