Chapter 48:Crafting the Rainbow Egg

Zen looked at all his prepped ingredients. With so many people helping out in the kitchen, Zen wanted as few eyes as possible when he crafted his Rainbow Egg. Hence, he told those who were not in his party to go for egg runs.

"From now on, any eggs you collect, you can submit. All the submission areas belong to Guild Survivor, except for the library where the basilisk is. Do your best to survive the purge. Help yourselves to any healing or stamina recovery egg dishes on the table."

The moment Zen told them the eggs were free to be distributed, there was a mad rush among the newly joined guild members. Some didn't even look at Zen as they jostled for eggs while the more polite ones thanked the cook before leaving to secure points.

The moment everyone left, Zen got into chef mode, and not even Sasha was allowed near him. The Russian sniper stood stiffly beside the tough female warrior and offered her a plate of scrambled eggs that nobody collected.

Oritha took a sniff of the dish and raised a brow. "We can eat in games?"

Sasha nodded. "It might be a healing item, but the taste is there. You've never tried my little brother's cooking, so you should try."

It was hard to say she wasn't curious. Oritha heard many things about Zen, but no matter what she saw, he was a very unathletic and weak person who only excelled in the kitchen. He was rather cute with his Asianish appearance and height before puberty hit him. It was interesting to see the youth look so much more confident holding a kitchen knife than a gun. If he was a female, he would make a good wife.

Zen pulled up his egg encyclopaedia once more and referred to the recipe.

He had the mixing bowl in front of him and the ingredients in the correct proportion, but there was another problem. The recipe did not mention if he should be frying them, baking them or steaming them. How vague!

Thankfully, he had many portions of it, and Zen started with what he thought might take the longest. The mixture was a little more on the watery side, so Zen thought the game might want him to bake it.

He tossed the dry components in first, starting with the legs, wings and shell. Then, the two yellow yolks were stirred in and smashed so that the gooey substance thoroughly covered everything. The camo egg membrane was stirred into the drying mix, and for the final touch, Zen sprinkled in the gunpowder.

He looked at the odd clump of sticky egg parts and wondered if this abomination should be cooked.

However, Zen did not waste time. He stuck this into the oven at what he thought might be the right 'incubation' temperature. It was a very humble fifty degrees, possibly the lowest temperature ever used for any oven.

"Keep an eye on it for me," he told the two ladies and worked on the same recipe but for the steamer and pan. Zen did not know how many candidates were dead from the release of the boss monster. He had to hurry!

Oritha could not help but eye another plate of scrambled eggs after finishing the one Sasha passed her. She knew that eggs were delicious but to think there was such an addicting flavour… no wonder two of the three strongest candidates in this academy wanted this person. Joining this party was the correct decision. Johan and Felix can kiss dust the next time they cross paths.

Sasha took a look at the oven after Oritha helped herself to her second plate of eggs and rubbed her eyes. Was she seeing things?

Zen set the egg mixture into a steamer and received no luck with the one sauteed in a pan. The mixture was simply looking grosser as he stirred them. Even if he let them sit, there was only a burning smell. He might be a little too optimistic about this vague plan.

"It's changing!" Sasha tapped Zen on the shoulder urgently and pointed to the oven.

Turning the stove off and ditching the messy rubbish in his pan, Zen hurried over to the oven. True enough, something interesting was happening.

The gooey clump from earlier was now moving into something Zen could only describe as a fetus. He did not understand this magic, but even as he watched, the mixture continued to grow. A blurry layer forming over this moving life form, and Zen could not help but feel amazed by how realistic this game was. At the same time, he had to remind himself how sick the game developers were for creating such a plot twist.

This egg recipe was for birthing a new basilisk. Who would have thought? No wonder the boss monster could only be tamed by a Rainbow Egg. It was on a rampage looking for its child. Zen was thoroughly impressed by the game's storyline if he ignored the part about real deaths occurring.

With no time to waste, Zen had to prepare a few more of that mixture so that every single person in their party was able to carry one around to end this shit game.

Sasha watched as Zen worked up a frenzy in the kitchen, measuring, pouring and mixing the odd egg recipe. She never saw Zen making such an excited expression before and had to wonder if Zen truly was civilian. Nobody in the mafia who was still sane could make this sort of expression in a life and death situation.

Oritha looked at the Rainbow Egg and wondered how this would taste. Would Zen get angry if she told him to cook it?
