God's Eyes

Chapter 910: Odd behavior

While watching the battle from more than a hundred kilometers away, Jason soon lost sight of everyone.

It looked like the Guard was being pushed back.

Unfortunately, the truth was the polar opposite!

Rather than being pushed back, Jason knew that the guard was slowly retreating, knowing that his mission had been accomplished, even if the wandering souls he sent out had been killed.

This shouldn't really matter to the Guard, who was just following orders…or so Jason thought.

In the end, he had no idea who the Soul Monarch was, and neither did he know anything about the Guards.

As such, he could only assume things.

However, that was already enough for Jason because he had figured out that it was the best to assume the worst even if the situation seemed to be great.

Predicting the worst while hoping for the best could be said to be his current motto.

Because of that, even after he lost sight of the fluctuations that radiated from the battlefield of the Specta stage powerhouses, Jason never averted his gaze.

He turned quiet but that was already everything.

Unsure of what else he should do right now, he asked Petri to leave his mana core. Petri's soul fusion dissolved after some time had passed, leaving Jennifer alone with him.

Jennifer could only look at him for some time and wait patiently for him to share some more pieces of information.

This would ease her mind, but there was not a single word Jason uttered for the next two hours.

Only after he perceived the Soul force fluctuations of the City Lord and the other powerhouses that seemed to have reappeared did Jason say something.

"It seems to be over. The guard left as well…From what I perceive, the City Lord sustained a light injury, but everyone else is unscathed…what a joke!"

It was clear that Jason was displeased by the situation.

If the Yinar race's powerhouses would have tried even a little bit more, they would be dead-tired by now.

However, not even their fluctuations were unstable.

On the contrary, everyone seemed to have stable fluctuations as if they didn't even use a single trace of Soul force to fight.

One might reason that combat prodigies and highly experienced veterans had fought against the Guard of the Soul Monarch, but even then Jason couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"Unscathed? What about exhaustion? Did they over-extend their limit even a little bit?"

Even Jennifer thought that the situation was way too weird.

Voicing out her concern, she expressed the same doubt and Jason couldn't agree more.

He thought exactly the same, but there was nothing he could say to clear their confusion.

Dumbfounded about the situation, Jason began to think hard, and doubts began to rise within him.

'Were they just too scared to fight seriously, which made them hold back, or is there more behind the entire situation??'

Jason was not sure if he was just overthinking, but he was suspicious about the result of the battle.

It was great that nothing happened to the city, which was something that should make him smile and be relieved.

Nevertheless, it irked him that only the City Lord was seriously exhausted.

Adding the entire situation and subtle details Jason was able to perceive once the City Lord and the powerhouses returned, something seemed to be seriously off.

While the City Lord was frustrated and did not even look at the other powerhouses, they seemed to relish the applause they were receiving.

Everyone was grateful for the help and cheered loudly, as a means of thanking the powerhouses because they protected Liun and its citizens.

Under normal circumstances, Jason might have felt similar, but not right now.

'Just what am I missing? I doubt anyone with a normal functioning brain would believe that the fight was exhausting.

Doesn't that actually mean that the other powerhouses held back and let the City Lord face the guard most of the time?'

Jason believed that it would have been too obvious if the powerhouses and the Guard or rather the Soul Monarch were actually colluding with each other.

This wouldn't make any sense, at all.

If one betrayed their own race, it would have to be highly secretive, making it hard to blow their cover.

However, this was not what happened.

Jason was not sure what to think of the situation, and Jennifer was as confused as him.

It was weird, and biting his lower lip, he thought that returning to their room might be the best for now.

In the end, he did much more than expected from him, and nobody should be complaining as they received his help.

He didn't even demand to receive something in return.

As such, he should have his peace for now, and nobody should suspect him of doing anything.

This meant that the few voices that had vehemently denied letting him receive Soa crystals in exchange for missions should have quieted down.

Jason felt that this was great, and it was exactly what he needed.

With that in mind, he used the resources which he had procured in the last few days in order to practice the Kanadi of a Primordial technique.

While he was forging, Jennifer asked him if she should just sell her share of materials to purchase cultivation resources.

She felt embarrassed about receiving free gains from his hard work.

It was almost a feeling as if she was sponsored, which was not great.

However, to ease her worry, he told her that he had simply modified the materials she provided and sold the final product for more in order to provide the best and most cultivation resources for both of them. Hearing him, Jennifer quieted down.

This didn't mean she was satisfied, but Jennifer understood the situation.

As such, she simply asked for some cultivation resources, and Jason gave her cultivation stones, which she partially exchanged with nutrition solutions.

Her and Jason required lots of nutrition just because they cultivated with the Kanadi of a Primordial technique.

But the exact same could be said about the demands of nutrition every single Cultivator had.

By cultivating, one's entire body was strengthened, and this required nutrition to be built up.

Following that, Jason had another means that consumed loads of nutrition.

Manifesting the body parts of his soulbonds required far more nutrition than one might think, making Jason eat much more than his usual appetite allowed him to consume.

Other than that, his passive soul energy circle that was empowered by one of his sub-area required additional nutrition too.

There might even be a few more means that required nutrition, but neither Jason nor Jennifer really cared about that.

They simply fulfilled their body's demand for nutrition, which only increased after a single practice of the Kanadi of a Primordial technique.

It was not difficult to perceive that tremendous changes would occur within one's body when many resources were required to initiate the process.

As if that was not enough, the aftermath, which could be compared to a proper build-up of the changes required lots of resources too.

Thus, Jason and Jennifer decided that they would focus on practicing the Kanadi of a Primordial technique.

That was, at least, their plan for the time being because the weapons Jason had forged had yet to be sold, and they were not sure if it would be an intelligent move to leave for an isolated place underground, barely after an attack had occurred.

Without knowing if another attack was bound to reach them, or the time, isolating oneself for an entire year, or possibly even longer could be considered quite reckless!
