Going Into the World!

Growth and Competition

Richard Barton joined Microsoft in 91 and has been involved in the development of important products for the company, from MSDOS to Windows 95.

He could say that each and every one of his related products drove Microsoft's growth, so it was considered a real life within the company.

As I worked on more and more important tasks over time, I had to travel frequently in Europe as well as across the United States, resulting in more and more time at the airport.

‘Then why is this so hard to schedule? Next week, two days in Houston, and then we have to go to London.’ Check next week's schedule and call your secretary.

“Miss Lena, book me a flight ticket and a hotel. Yeah, and a car. Just medium, with sunloops. Yeah, yeah. Non-smoking room... yeah. It needs to be closer to the venue than the airport.

Oh, it's one o'clock. Okay? We can't do it like last time... okay. If I'm confused, I want you to be thorough, okay? ”

I'm tired of telling you every single thing I want. However, if you think about the difficulties of not being booked in a rental car like last time, it is less troublesome to make sure later. Miss Lena told me she sang it correctly, so I guess I was wrong about the phone call.

‘But this is really annoying. Do I have to check every time? And I can't do that. Oh!!' Richard, who was complaining, is suddenly stunned.

That's it! This is a good idea. How many people in the world are as uncomfortable as I am? This... ’

“Bill, I've got a great idea. Do you have a minute?” Bill Gates, president of Microsoft, wants to end the meeting on Windows 98 and the office suites to leave, and Richard talks.

“Suddenly what? Is something wrong? ”

“Yes, I have something I'd like to discuss with you.”

“Come and sit down. Yeah, like what?

“Not the other way around, but our MSN is getting jammed up, isn't it? I've been thinking about travel services, and I think this is going to help the company a lot. ”

Richard reiterated current tourism and travel market challenges, lack of service, and market possibilities. At first, Bill, who was a little bitter, seemed to like the idea that he could eventually significantly increase MSN's number of stagnant visitors.

Microsoft is now a well-formed large corporation, so it had to go through several feasibility investigations and meetings before starting something. However, Bill Gates' permission and Richard's strong claim led to the establishment of an in-house venture, expedia.com, in late 96.

First, Richard aimed at such a service that he could gradually buy comparable airplanes, hotels and car rentals in aggregate, starting with showing basic search functionality and the summary of the searched data.

First, we decided to add travel pages to MSN, dragged over a dozen associates around to prepare the framework, and by the summer of '97, we were still able to add features that we could put out, and we were able to link a lot of well-organized data and most of the major travel agencies to the main page, resulting in a million page clicks per month.

Since then, after continuing to add employees and scout developers, Expedia's in-house venture took full place in early 98, a year's lapse. Even so, it was not enough to say that it was still up. Even Yahoo, a competitor, still lacking, opened the travel sector, and all the portal services were attracting visitors with something about travel.

With more features and additional content, Yahoona, Lycos, Excite, and other competitively similar content, growth has slowed. Even though the competitive portals were forced to follow, there were few places to connect real purchases and book plane tickets, hotels and car rentals, such as MSN travel, and the functionality was not unique. The rest were mostly self-procured, or if they were together, they would organize and show packages for tourists.

It's been more than two months since the New Year in '98, but nothing has changed, and Richard's concerns are deeper.

"This is one percent less. No matter how good MSN is at travel, there's nothing to be overwhelmed by. What's the big deal?

‘We are disadvantaged once the competitive web portals are crowded. I'm really worried about this. I really don't have the talent...’

Richard yells at Bill, but he's a little anxious about his slow growth.

“Richard, would you look at this?” Jones, who was in charge of marketing, calls me as he passes by.

“What page is that? ’I think Jones is looking at the competitor's website.

“Oh, this is a new travel service that's been open lately, and it's working. Check it out!”

“Really? What's so special about it? ”

“Yes. I'm thinking of going on a family trip to Eastern America next week, and when I put in the origin and destination, and I select a few people, and I search, and I search, and I get this information, and it's really, really detailed. Hotel photos and basics at a glance so you don't have to tap each day? This is so much better than ours. Haha," Jones says it's a joke. Kmm.

Jones quickly entered the office to give a compliment and accessed a homepage with a rustic name called OneClickTrip.

"Well, this is exactly what I had in mind, right? You bastards!"

I took a look at the content and it was implementing the functions I had in mind. I liked the search and search, and the results came out in hotel photos and criticisms, as well as distances from airports or designated places, so I could see everything at a glance without having to click a few times.

‘This is really convenient. I really am the one who made it! Huff. ’

I called Dan, the tech guy, and instructed him to review if he could implement the same functions. Dan was an expert on this, but he said it wouldn't be easy with this kind of information, and that he would report back in a week.

Ildo opened a beta site and placed banner ads everywhere. He invested $100,000 in big advertising and hired an online marketing company, which he created to sound like a professional company, with substantial wording and planning and advertising everywhere and offline. Of course, there's a limit to what you can do with 100,000 dollars.

After testing it for one month, it's amazing if it's because of its noticeable function or 50,000 times in a month (?).

It was officially opened in February, but of course Jennifer also called it an opening ceremony.

“John, you're the boss now! Congratulations!" Jennifer likes it better than me.

I was so busy for a while that I could hardly play at the end of the year, but I tolerated knowing that I was in important trouble.

“Yeah, I've been too busy for a while. I'm sorry, okay? ”

“Yes, I know. I know John's busy. Thanks for having me. Heehee.” My nose smells of hair that smells nice to hold my arm.

I haven't seen you for two weeks preparing for the last few days, and today I dress up nicely. When I saw the hand holding my arm, I applied pink nail polish, which is too good for my white straight fingers.

“Your hands are so pretty. You look great in your clothes today. ”

“Today is a special day. There's a lot of other people, but you can't just come here, right?” Slightly pour your eyes out to the side, trying to create a shell in your cheek.

Jennifer seems to be getting prettier. I pinched my cheeks a little because it was so cute. I felt like licking my ears, but I quit because there were so many people watching.

Thomas and Jefferson look at the flowing Jennifer and admire me with enormous envy. Heheh. I'm a power guy. Khh.

After the formal opening, I set new advertising costs, and as long as the number of users increased, I was willing to spend a few hundred thousand dollars more. First, I could easily get money by knocking on venture capital for only 10-200,000 times a month. Ah! Of course, you can still attract money if you just decide right now. With Yahoo's career at Stanford, more than 50,000 visitors a month, and the excellence of our search engines, more than $1 million can be quickly saved. But I didn't want to because I still had my money.

Picasso, the abstractor we know so well, is the price of marketing. At first, no one noticed his difficult painting, so I came up with a trick. He told me that Picasso was looking for a painting by going around the gallery, buying it from one place, selling it elsewhere, etc. I suddenly remembered this story.

‘Yes, this is it! We just need to modify this a little bit. Haha, I knew it... I'm him!’ I came up with specific ways.

“Dr. Hamilton, how are you? Yeah, me, too. I'll see you later. Yeah, I'm starting a business.” I called the principal at Rocks Villejunior high school, who gave me a lot of care.

“Yes, I will. But it's no different. I recruit part-time. About 20. I'm thinking 10 bucks on the payroll, but I think I'd better give my kids a chance. Yeah, I don't care if it's more, I'd like to borrow the school computer room. ”

It was not easy for high school students to do part-time work, and 10 dollars was very generous. It was so simple that Mr. Hamilton was actively helping.

That way, I decided to rent out the computer room and give the week to 20-30 people after school and on Saturdays.

“Hello? How have you been?” I went to school, and the principal, Hamilton, and the teachers who taught me, are all happy to see you.

I told him I was doing well at school and briefly explained the business I started. Everyone was surprised when they said that there are now more than 2-3,000 visitors a day.

I was able to rent a large conference room next to the principal's office after school, where I had all the part-time students gather. Mrs. Hamilton and a few other curious teachers walked in. I have strengthened excellence by comparing my company's homepage with competitors, and have one of the teachers I am planning a trip with volunteered to actually start, destination and options and search. The teacher was surprised by the sudden results, saying that it was much cheaper than he recognized, and he even made the final payment from there. The package you selected was one of 20 special offers that my company contacted and put into discounts at the time of opening and was very satisfied because it was usually 10% cheaper.

Brainwashed with thoroughly colorful wordsmanship that is more accurate and convenient for our service when typing the same (?) and then entered various forums, portal sites, and comparative sites on the internet on their computers.

"Wow, this is a new service. I love it!"

‘Oh, this is amazing. It's nothing compared to the rest of the world, right? ’

‘I love it. I've done the same thing with MSN travel services, but I think it's 100 times better. "

‘The post-payment options were organized and printed so it was convenient ~’

‘Four family members went to Disney and saved me 500 dollars. It's so convenient!’

This week's indiscriminate comments began to gradually increase views as publicity posts impersonated thousands of Alvaro's experiences were published. I think it's effective, so I'm especially talented (?) and worked the whole month.

It's not illegal, is it? And based on the facts, whatever. 'Yes, I made sure that we were' better, 'so that ten Albanians did not feel any less guilty.

I can't believe high school kids feel guilty about this...

Over the course of a month, he started getting 5000 hits a day, asking how many actual payments have been made, and how many of the 20 companies he specialized in couldn't advertise.

Artwork Reviews

It took me four hours to write this episode, aside from the idea. Aligning Expedia's founding process with its protagonist, linking her next few pieces to Picasso and comment Alba. My back feels tight. A lot of encouragement. It's the next two or three ideas, but it takes too much power.
