Grand Arcanist: A Warcraft Fanfiction

Chapter 25 - 10: The Meeting

Studying and understanding the "magic" behind how teleportation and portal operate gave Aethas a deep understanding on how to improve his mastery over the art.

"Aethas, you need to focus or else the gathering mana will collapse in on itself once again!"

Professor Sunreach pointed out, since the little explosion of magical energy a while back, Sunreach had come to a conclusion that it is better off to supervise and involve himself into most if not all of Aethas experimentation if possible.

Less there's that chance of him blowing half if not the entire town into the great Beyond.

"I'm trying! Maintaining control is harder than it looks!" Aethas shouted as he tried to force the power from collapsing and blow up the spire.

"Hmmm… it looks like we might have to come up with something else, that's enough you can dissipate the mana now." Professor Sunreach quickly went to his notebook and began flipping through the pages.

Seeing that the professor no longer bothers with the experiment, Aethas slowly lets the Mana collapse in on itself and dissipate into the leyline below them.

"Like what? An anchor?" Aethas scrambled his head, never in his life had anything made him struggle like this before, the Mage players in the game, along with NPC's made it look so easy too.

Maybe it's not the greatest idea to compare himself with battle hardened veterans mages and people mentioned in the same line as Khadgar or Jaina Proudmoore.

"Not a bad idea, I can try to come up with a design for a portal stage, perhaps redirecting the leyline current and making it constantly supplying the portal, we can keep it open permanently or perhaps for a very long time." the old professor delved deeper into the topic as he pulled on his little scrub of chin hairs.

Aethas let out a deep long sigh before heading off, he and the old man had locked themselves up in the spire since sunrise, the moon is already high in the sky.

Somewhere on a hill, Aethas sat there contemplating about his life thus far, looking at the stars and moon in silence.

"Thinking on how you're going to run away, Aethas?" from out of the shadow, Valeera once more revealed herself.

"Yup, there is so much to see in the world, I don't want to be held back and stay here for the rest of my life." 'and plus, there are people and THINGS out there that need to be destroyed and removed, in order to secure my peace.' Aethas thought of the future "expansions".

Valeera stared at him in silence.

"Is it… so bad staying home with your parents and me?" she asked.

"No, it is not about that, I honestly would not mind doing that, however there are those out there that threaten my peace and family security, I need to get stronger if I want to prevent all of the future disaster from occurring." for a moment his voice went frosty, even though Aethas, the former Xiao Yu was a good man who helped others, such as how helping a kid from getting squash by a train ended him here.

However, it doesn't mean he won't do everything in his power to keep what precious to him safe from harm, such as in this life for example, his families and friends, the past life Xiao Yu was nothing more than orphan, he had to work hard for everything he wanted in his life.

"Do you think I'm a bad person for doing everything in my power to seek out and destroy those who see my family and friends in harm's way?" he asked her, perhaps living his life here in a war torn world changed him.

"Whatever your choice is, I will always be on your side" Valeera's determination has somewhat reached beyond what can be called normal loyalty, to her- Aethas is the one person that can be considered her "Light" after the Sanctum incident.

"Thank you Valeera, I trusted you." he smiled, thus this fueled his determination, Aethas returned to his laboratory, ready to put in more time and effort- along with a couple more theories on to the testing table.

Valeera looked at Aethas back as he disappeared back into the town, Valeera did not know what kind of future, nor danger that Aethas had foreseen, however she too would need more power if she would ever have the chance of helping Aethas.

Long after Aethas returned to the spire he called his "Laboratory", Valeera remained behind.

In her hand was a glowing glass-like abyssal rock with a shadowy mist escaping from it once in a while.

She stared at it deeply clenching her fist, only to let out a long sigh and stuffed it back into the present that Aethas had gifted her before, an enchanted satchel.

Early the next morning.

Aethas alone stood in front of a stone platform, builded by him and his demonic servants throughout the entire night.

"We did it, this should do the tricks… hopefully *Yawn" he yawned, after his little chat with Valeera the night prior, it strangely gave him some motivation to finish his work, rewiring the leyline magic using a formation of sorts.

"Well, you all can return now, I will summon you once again when assistance is needed." and with a wave of his hand, all the imps in the room are banished back to the twisting nether… in a nice way, unlike what Hextraxis experienced.

After all the imps were returned to the twisting nether, Aethas held up his staff and began channeling his magic into the platform.

Soon the stone formation began to lit up as it came into life and a small window to a location revealed itself.

The path to Silvermoon awaits… or hopefully it's Silvermoon and not somewhere else.

In the end, Aethas was quite baffled on the fact that his father, Theramar, is letting this little crazy experimentation keep going like this for weeks already.

Even if we told the guards and the man himself that they were only experimenting on "Volatile subjects", with his own power, Theramar could very well already discover what Aethas was up to and could immediately shut down the project.

"Well, that is it, we now have an open channel to civilization and could freely transport people back and forth from their hometown, directly to the capital, or so he hoped.

"Huh?!" However, something unexpected soon happened, the portal began to somewhat "fizzled" out and began a mass of instability and exploded in a sphere shape before enlarging itself.

Luckily it didn't explode, but what left was a mass of glowing energy that somewhat resembled a large, spherical unstable portal.

"More records to be taken down onto the notebook it is." the phenomenon baffled him and thus the scholarly blood in his vein began to rage as he quickly scribbled down more notes as he witnessed the "hazardous" event about to unfold.

But as he was about to finish up his writing, something came flying out of the "portal" and kneed him right in the face, knocking the light out of him.

The last thing he saw was a female human? With white hair tied up in a ponytail carrying a 2 handed sword on her back.

'Hold on, what the f.u.c.k just happened?' that was his last thought before the darkness overtook him, followed by a clashing of steel against steel.
