Guardian: Lost Memories

Chapter 8 - A Piece Of Memory

-Yunlan-

After such promise, Zhao make sure they were not been follow by someone else, aside the two idiots that were tailing them. After he make an extra-long trip to the office, Zhao go out of his Hummer first and open Shen Wei's door, when Da Qing and Chu Shuzhi, where there to escort him in. He helped him out and the three of them keep him shelter inside their little circle.

Once inside the office, both Da Qing and Chu, throw themselves in the nearest couches. Shen Wei smiled at them and properly thank the pair for their hard work and promise them something good for dinner, which make Da Qing's eyes sparkle in anticipation and Old Chu's mouth water.

"Xiao Wei, don't spoil them, otherwise, we will have them coming home each night, case or not." Zhao warned him, while looking for a softer cushion, for his lover wounded back.

"Please, as if I will interrupt a pair of love birds on their honeymoon." Chu retorted, making Shen Wei blush at the thought. Right at that instant, a woman, wearing an elegant suit go down the metallic stairs with a few folders on her arms.

"Ah, professor Shen, it's so good to see you out of that hospital and looking better." Zhu Hong said, welcoming the professor to their office.

"Thank you, Zhu Hong." Shen Wei responded, smiling so charmingly at her, that she couldn't help but blush under his beauty.

"Hey! Don't go fantasizing about him, you know he is mine..." Although Zhu, knew her Chief teasing nature quite well, she couldn't help but blush more, as the professor sighed. She did have a crush on him years back, when the professor was first introduced to their team, but then, seen that he was more interested in Zhao Yunlan, she move on from that deep water that would not take her anywhere, but to sink her in an endless abyss.

"Yunlan, that's rude..." Shen scolded him.

"You know he is shameless, why even bother taking him seriously..." Chu said from his couch.

"He is right, it didn't bother me professor." Zhu confirmed, as she walked back to her desk.

"Come on here babe, have a sit." Zhao said ignoring his team and Shen Wei, resigned, sat where Yunlan wanted him to be.

"Anything new about our detainee?" Zhao asked, sitting by Shen Wei. He was eager to finish with that case, so he could share his life with his professor in private, without part of his team posted at the other side of the street watching their every move or kiss. Zhu took the files she had brought from the archive room and handle them to her Chief.

Yunlan read it first, then he passed it to Shen Wei, who thankfully accept it and eagerly read it. The statement of the suspect was at first glance ridiculous, because he had been caught by him inside the lab room, a fact that was still elusive to his forgetful mind and lab tests of the found weapon has conclusive evidence, the man in his late twenties had indeed committed the crime, yet he insisted in denying the facts and claim he remember nothing. Looking at his picture, he felt that there was something out of place around him. His name was Chuan Li, with twenty-eight years old.

He was not one of his students, yet he did study in the campus at some point, but never graduate. He was currently working as a delivery man for a popular restaurant, which apparently gave him a good list of victims to choose from female clients, as apparently all the victims did ask for a delivery at some point. However, despite the evidence, there was something he felt was missing, another connection that tied him with the one he didn't remember.

A raid on Chuan Li's apartment had further prove he was the culprit, as the police found a wall full of the four victims pictures and blood tainted clothes. They had even found some of the victim's belongings, as if they were some kind of trophies for his hunting. The evidence pointing at him was quite overwhelming, but unfortunately, the policemen that raid the old apartment, did not found any evidence of a second culprit, for which the serial case was only half solved, only missing the involvement of the accomplice or mastermind of the murders, of which they have no evidence to point to a specific suspect. The only evidence leading to a second murderer was him, on Yunlan's recorded call.

Shen Wei closed his eyes, feeling the pressure of been a prime witness with lost memories of the event. He wished he could remember that other face, that hunt him down on his dreams, but he could not see it clearly. If only he could remember, the case could be fully close and the city safer. So, he try to focus in the image of the murderer he confront and catch, a slender guy with dark hair and eyes... a murderer without remorse or feelings behind those cold eyes... then, as he concentrate further, he experience a flash of memory.

He was back to fighting and throwing Chuan Li over one lab table, who broke under the impact, his adrenaline high and in control of that fight... then the image blurry and he saw the ghost of the young woman murdered. She was beautiful, smiling at him in gratitude as her body lie on her feet all cover with blood. He could even smell it, like if he was still there. There was intense sadness in his heart, but also a hint of happiness for catching her killer, because at the very least she would had justice. Then, he felt an intense wave of pain coming from his lower back. Despite the pain, he turned...

"Shen Wei! Shen Wei! Wake up!" A yell, took him out of his daydream and Shen open his eyes to find all the present members of the SID team staring at him with worry faces.

"Shen Wei..." Zhao repeated, although this time a bit softer, as he took his lover's hand on his. "Are you okay, babe? You were having a nightmare..." A nightmare? Then Shen Wei looked around, feeling the room quite cold. The table that was in front of them a second ago, was now half a meter away, the files over it, scattered on the floor, there was also shards of broken light bulbs. The professor looked up, finding all lights above him broken and there was a slight cut in one of his hands.

"Don't worry Shen Wei, all of them can be replaced." Zhao murmur, as he removed some shards from Wei's hair.

"So, I did this..." He was not really asking, just wanting a confirmation he had lose control when trapped on a vivid daydream. It was very rare for him to use a small level of PK, but he had manage to do so in moments of extreme stress.

"Yep, who else among us had that power?" Old Chu said, making Zhao turn to throw a cushion at him.

"Shut up, you idiot! I didn't ask you." Zhao scolded.

"But he did. Ah, never mind." Old Chu defend himself.

"Go down and bring Guo here. There is something I need him to do for me." The man, turned on his heels and went down, to the library, glad to be out of the grumpy Chief's radar. He liked going down the best, in which there was only an easily scared new trainee to play with.

"Yunlan, don't be hard on him, this is my doing, I'm sorry." Shen said, as he stood up. "Is everyone okay?" He asked, looking at Zhu and Da Qing.

"Yeah... it was just a bit of a scare when the lights flicked and the table shake and move. The Chief had guessed you have more than one supernatural gift, but honestly, I wasn't expecting that. It was kind of cool, thought..." Da Qing said, and Shen Wei relaxed.

"Same with me... my uncle owns a temple, so I had seen my fair share of supernatural things and none of us was actually harmed so it's fine." Zhu added.

"Well, he was... come on. I will clean that cut for you." Zhao said as he gently guide him to his office and after making sure no one was able to disturb them, he make him sit over the border of his desk and had a better look at the small cut.

"It's fine Yunlan, this don't even need to be clean. It's just a small scratch." Shen said, but his lover still moved to look for some alcohol pads.

"Shen Wei, don't force yourself like that. We will catch the bastard, even without you remembering him. I promise you, we will hunt him down no matter the odds." Zhao said tenderly, which make Shen Wei blush.

"I only want to prevent more deaths. If someone else dies, it will be my fault." Shen Wei said and Zhao moved closer and put one hand over his neck to pull him in for a kiss. Shen Wei hesitate for a few seconds, as they were inside Yunlan's office, but soon, he gave in, unable to resist those hungry soft lips, craving for more. Zhao Yunlan had always been a sweet weakness, one that he had decide to embrace fully, for either good or bad.

Initially he had erected many barriers around the Chief of SID, but eventually, Zhao break them all, one by one and as he fell for the handsome man more and more, only one barrier stood between them, which was his father disapproval of relationsh.i.p.s between the same s.e.xes.

However now, not even that one was there to save him from falling pray of Yunlan's mischievous charm and d.e.s.i.r.e, because at the end, it was his too. So when he heard a knock on the door, Shen Wei, broke the heated kiss and push his lover a little to get away from Yunlan, with an intense blush, earning a wave of pain from his wound, for the sudden move, thus he m.o.a.n.e.d painfully.

"Babe, be careful, not sudden moves..." Zhao said, half smiling. His Wei was too shy for his own good, but still, he would not have him any other way. He was damn right perfect the way he was, despite all the suffering he experience as a kid, for which he will make sure to grant him as much happiness as he could. He deserved that and more, much more...

AN: Thank you for reading. This one is not as sweet, but we need to know a bit more of the case, as well as Shen Wei's abilities. He only had a bit of PK, so he can move some objects, which can come in handy when the time comes.
