Chapter 4 - Practice and Slaughter

"Let's make camp at the edge of the canyon since it's getting dark." said Six as he finished packing supplies.

"Sounds good, we'll make camp and then you'll get that system of yours to teach me a skill. Maybe we can get some practice with the skills too," replied Emile as he was pulling his pack on his shoulders.

As they were leaving the shipyard Six decided to discuss Emile's skill with the system and how teaching a skill would work.

[Replying: A notification will appear on Emile's hud. He'll get a choice of three skills-based upon his close combat specialization. He can learn another skill when you reach level ten. You are currently level 1.]

'Okay, {Status}'

[Strength: 15

Dexterity: 18

Intelligence: 10

Wisdom: 12

Constitution: 11

Charisma: 5]

Available Attribute Points: 5

'How strong am I really?'

[Answering: A basic human attributes typically max out all at 10 even if they train, however, with your Spartan training and injections you had much higher stats than a human.]

'What attributes should I increase?'

[Recommendation: Charisma is useless for the most part. At what point would you talk to any covenant? Strength is the best to add to currently. If you add your five attribute points into Strength you will reach the requirements for a skill called "Toughness". This passive skill can reduce the amount of damage you will take from shots. Shots will also have a harder time piercing your skin. Finally, you can charge any melee physical attack. Example: if you managed to get behind an Elite without the Elite noticing while starting to charge a punch and then releasing it on the Elite's head you would obliterate the head. Nothing left.]

'While that sounds fantastic are there any other skills I could acquire?'

[Replying: You can also get the skill "Read Faster" if you level your intelligence one.]

'Level up my strength by five.'

[Congratulations: Host has earned the skill "Toughness". With Strength reaching 20 you can punch doors open, stomp and shake the ground around you, and finally, lift up to 3 tons without straining.]

Arriving a bit inside the canyon they find a small cavern where they could sleep for the night and hide their supplies while they look for Carter's body.

"Let's start, send me a skill," said Emile anxiously.

'We may be Spartans but everyone likes a new toy' thought Six as he looked at Emile.

'System send him a skill.'

[Responding: Very well.]

"Woah oh oh! I get the choice of "Power Strike", "Flurry", and "Shotgun Proficiency"," said Emile after taking a second to think continued.

"I already can use a shotgun well, "Flurry" seems like a bunch of rapid strikes and "Power Strike" seems like a quickly charged strike that could cut doors open or something."

"I can shatter a door open with a punch." Said Six as he was watching Emile.

"Well, then it looks like I'm choosing flurry,"

"Let's practice then, I saw a group of rocks earlier we could practice on," said Six.

When they arrived at the group of rocks Emile immediately used Flurry. His hands glowed red with strings of orange rotating around them. Then came his attack. Whipping out his knives he went into a berserk mode slashing almost every second in life-threating spots should the rocks have been a real being. After a few more seconds the red glow died down. Emile turned around to face Six.

"I could get used to that, it was pretty fun," stated Emile.

In response rather than say anything, Six walked up to a rock and prepared to flick it. He started to charge it. There was no glow or anything to indicate his finger flick was charging but as his flick made contact with the rock cracks appeared all over like a web. One more touch from anything and this rock would fall apart.

"Eh, that was a bit of fun," said Six while blankly looking at Emile.

Emile looked like a truck had hit a small child or well as much as a visor could display shock. He took a breath and a thick atmosphere came over.

[Notification: Emile-A239 learned the skill "Bloodl.u.s.t".]

'What?'

"Six are you up for a spar?"

The next morning came fast for the two Spartans. Emile looked the worse of the two. It seems that his armor took a beating. A few scratches and dents throughout his suit.

"Had I know how much your strength affects attacks I wouldn't have sparred you last night." groggily said Emile as he was raising up from sleep.

Six who was already up for the second watch responded "Well, we know the "Repair" ability works pretty well. Had it not your visor would be shattered right now,"

"Heh, We also know the ability "Treat Injury" works well," spoke Emile with a sickening grin.

"Alright alright, enough fooling around let's get our captain back."

Traveling easily through the canyon since the covenant was gone they left their guard down. All the covenant had left the shipyard so why would there be any covenant in the canyon? Winding through the canyon they spot the Scarab that Carter's pelican had crashed into.

"There's the scarab!" Six said while pointing east.

"Let's sprint. No reason to make Carter wait any longer. He'll probably think he passed out from the explosion." said Emile while starting to pick up his feet.

They began to whip around corners faster and faster. Unexpectedly they ran into several Sangheili Zealots. Two melees and three ranged.

"Take cover!" Emile yelled as he dove behind a rock.

Six then dove behind a rock that was parallel with Emile. Emile using hand signals to tell Six that he would take care of the melee leaving the ranged all to him. On his mark, they would stand up and begin their onslaught.

'3....2...1.. MARK!'

Emile sprinted straight at the melee Zealots whipping out his knives and activating flurry. It was like he was cutting butter. From above their knees to shoulders all joints and vital points cut. Nothing left behind. The Zealots put up no fight compared to Emile.

Six started off by pulling his DMR out and executing very accurate shots. His first shot went straight through a Zealot's throat killing him. The next shot went into the eye of the second ranged zealot and through the back of his skull. Finally rather than killing the last one he decided to maim him so they could get information so he shot into the upper shoulder of the Zealot forcing him to drop his weapon.

All this occurred within 15 seconds. The final ranged Zealot who was injured realized that this was a lost cause sprinted towards his banshee and got in. Six had not shot him yet because he wanted information but everything was going so fast that he didn't realize there were banshees behind the crew of zealots.

"Take the banshee out, We can't let him warn others," Emile told Six.

Six started to charge a "Power Shot" with his DMR aiming towards the banshee. He pulled the trigger.

BOOM!

The banshee's parts flew everywhere along with a few Elite body parts.
