Harry Potter and the Old Ones

Chapter 229 Hermione's doubts

Compared with Tierra's perfect and happy Christmas holiday, Harry's Christmas holiday is not so satisfactory——

First of all, he knew that his father's best friend, his godfather, was the culprit who killed his parents. This made Harry's joy that he thought he had received the Firebolt from Tierra was diluted by most of it.

And Tierra's absence this Christmas has diluted the remaining half of Harry's joy, especially when Tierra sent Ron a gift but didn't even have a letter to himself. This joyful mood instantly turned into a slightly awkward mood——

Harry didn't know why, although his Firebolt was more expensive than Ron's gift, but Harry was still a little upset——

Harry knew that Hermione thought so too, because compared to Harry and Ron who both got presents——

Hermione got nothing.

On Christmas morning Hermione rummaged through every present under the Christmas tree in the Gryffindor common room—

But no, there wasn't a single present from Tierra for Hermione under the tree, not even a single Christmas card.

But that's not the only thing that frustrates Hermione——

On the second day of the Christmas holiday, Hermione and Harry, who were in a bad mood, were going to take Ron, who was in a good mood, to visit Hagrid.

When they arrived at Hagrid's woodside cabin, they got bad news--

"Buckbeak... woo... Buckbeak may be sentenced to death!" Hagrid choked up, crying like a three hundred... maybe four hundred pound child.

"Those bloody Hazardous Creatures committee guys, they...they just got on with these funny creatures... woo..." Hagrid wailed.

Hagrid's cabin was a little crowded at the moment, especially when Harry, Ron and Hermione entered—

Now Hagrid's hut was filled with all kinds of fantastic animals—

The mutated snail, the invisible beast that likes to take care of babies, and of course the big pony-like hippogriff, Buckbeak, is lying in the corner of the room, chewing something, making it dripping all over the floor blood.

"I can't tie it in the snow with a rope." Seeing the strange eyes of Harry, Ron and Hermione, Hagrid choked up and said, "Alone, and it has to be at Christmas time. "

Harry, Ron, and Hermione looked at each other. They had never seen Hagrid face to face with what Hagrid called an "interesting animal" and the others called a "terrible monster." Buckbeak, on the other hand, doesn't seem to mean any harm, but, by Hagrid's usual standards, he's certainly endearing.

"Don't give up, Hagrid, you must prepare a strong defense." Hermione sat down beside Hagrid, put her hand on Hagrid's thick forearm and patted comfortingly, "Let me help you , we just have to prove that Buckbeak can't hurt anyone."

"What did Dumbledore say, Hagrid?" Harry asked.

"Dumbledore has done enough for me." Although Hagrid stopped crying, his voice was still a little hoarse, "Just keeping those dementors from entering the castle is hard enough for him, and there are little Sirius Black wanders around..."

Ron and Hermione gave Harry a quick look, as if expecting him to scold Hagrid for not telling him the truth about Black—

But Harry couldn't bring himself to do it, because he saw how miserable and terrified Hagrid was now.

"Listen, Hagrid," said Harry, "you can't give up. Hermione's right, you've got to prepare your defense, and you can call us as witnesses! We can prove that Buckbeak was harmless!"

Finally, after they promised to help several times, Hagrid blew his nose on a handkerchief the size of a tablecloth and said, "You're right, I can't be broken, I have to pull myself together!"

Fang came timidly from under the table and rested his head on Hagrid's lap.

"I've been having trouble lately..." said Hagrid, stroking his teeth with one hand and touching his face with the other. "I'm always worrying about Buckbeak, and no one likes my class..."

"We like it!" Hermione immediately lied.

"Yeah, your class is awesome!" said Ron.

"If only Tierra was here..." said Hagrid, "he can give me some advice...you know...he spent the summer before he was adopted by Lockhart helping me take care of these lovely I don’t know why this semester...he seems to be not interested in these cuties all of a sudden..." Hagrid complained endlessly, "And my little cuties don’t seem to be interested in them all of a sudden. It’s as if I met him...he is as indifferent to him as a stranger...and he didn’t give me a gift this year..."

Suddenly, while Hagrid was talking, Hermione stood up with a "whoosh"—

"What... what's wrong, Hermione?" Harry and Ron asked, as if taken aback.

"Oh...no, no...it's nothing..." Hermione walked back slowly, but her eyes flickered, obviously thinking about something...

Hagrid's visit to the cabin, while far from being an interesting event, did have some effect—

Harry stopped thinking too much about Sirius Black, and Hermione stopped sullenly—

They had gone to the library the day after their visit to Hagrid, returning to the empty common room with books in their arms that might help prepare Buckbeak's defense. The three sat in front of the blazing fire, slowly flipping through the dusty files, which were all famous cases of magical beasts hurting people, and they talked occasionally when they saw relevant situations.

"Huh?" Harry said suddenly, pulling out a few sheets of paper from under the pile of files, and asked—

"Isn't this Tierra's homework?" Harry asked suspiciously, "What are you doing with it?"

"Oh... no, no, it's nothing." Hermione said, pulling Tiera's homework out of Harry's hand, "just... just... just suddenly felt that his handwriting has become better recently... so I asked the professors to come over... I think, I want to practice by myself..."

Hermione quickly stuffed Tierra's homework behind her.

"Let's... let's continue to study the dossier..." Hermione said.

Harry and Ron didn't take it seriously, and continued to sit in front of the fire and study the dossier. This is almost how the Christmas holidays of the three little wizards were spent——

Because of the incident with Sirius, Harry wasn't in the mood to play around as crazy as before, and Hermione was always holding Tierra's homework with a contemplative expression, so since Ron was left alone, it was not easy to always be alone. He took Harry and Hermione out to play, but Ron couldn't stand reading the file.

But fortunately, Ron is not too boring, because he has a Christmas present from Tierra——

A big black dog with a shiny plate.
