Harry Potter: Rise Of The Serpent

Chapter 2 - McGonogal Cometh

(11 years later. (SpnongeBob voice))

It's been eleven years since I was left on the doorstep of Hollow's Orphanage and it certainly hasn't been easy. Granted, it's not as hard as Harry has it but it's pretty f.u.c.k.i.n.g close. We barely get fed, have numerous amounts of chores, and even have to make weird trinkets which the matron sells and pockets the money. I am excluded from the rest of the kids because no matter how little I eat or how many chores I do, I still have a healthy body weight. I'm also pretty attractive for an eleven year old. I have white hair which is grown to mid-back and bright red eyes as well as pale skin. If I didn't know any better I'd think I was a vampire. I had a slim build and was above average in height.

Today was my eleventh birthday and I couldn't be more excited. I had already done some 'accidental' magic in order to show up on Hogwarts' radar so I'm expecting one of the faculty to pick me up soon and take me to Diagon Alley.

Despite not having any books on magic nor a wand I still practiced my magic. The interface couldn't help me since I wasn't learning or creating anything so I guess I had some natural talent for magic. I had a theory that a wizards magic core worked similarly like a muscle, the more you used it the stronger it got so I put my theory into action. Every night I would empty my meager magic reserves levitating small objects and summoning forth small lights from my finger tips until my magic was all used up. Doing this for eleven years has increased my reserves to the amount of a seventh year. I got to the point where I could no longer empty my reserves with the little spells I knew since my magic energy had reached an amount where those first year spells couldn't drain it no matter how many times I cast them.

I had also tested my universal language skill and it works perfectly. I can talk to snakes, cats, dogs, squirrels, and I'm guessing everything else. I mainly wanted to be a parselmouth but thought that I should make the most of my wishes. My main goal in speaking parseltongue is to eventually be able to use parselmagic. It's supposed to be much more powerful than the regular latin spells so I was very interested in learning it.

I was sweeping the floor of the orphanage when I saw an elderly woman with green robes and a pointed black hat make her way to the front door.

Alastair: "McGonogall." I muttered underneath my breadth.

Suddenly, loud knocks reverberated throughout the orphanage grabbing the attention of the matron who quickly shooed us into our rooms. I had my own room since people would rather be squashed in other rooms together than share one with me which was fine since it gave me more privacy to use my magic. I saw McGonogall talking with the matron who invited the robed woman inside and led her to my room. I heard a knock on my door waited a few seconds before opening it.

When I opened the door I examined the elderly woman who examined me right back. Her mouth twitched a bit in surprise when she saw me, a normal reaction when taking into account my white hair and red eyes.

McGonogall: "May I come in?" The woman asked as the matron walked away.

Alastair: "Of course. Please." I respond as I step aside, leaving the way open for Mcgonogal.

I was itching to figure out what kind of Harry Potter world this was. Was it the one with the kind Dumbledore or the dark, evil one. Or maybe it is the 'greater good' one. Any way it was, I couldn't wait to find out.

McGonogall stepped inside and I sat on my bed, the witch standing a ways in front of me.

Alastair: "So....are you here to adopt me?" I asked. Of course I already knew why she was here but I had to keep up appearances.

McGonogall's mouth twitches again, almost in a sneer.

Alastair: "Well, I guess that answers my question about dark or not." I thought as I waited for her answer.

McGonogall: "I'm afraid not. Tell me Mr. Alastair, do you believe in magic?"

Alastair: "Magic? are you here to take me into a cult?" I ask her as I tilt my head.

McGonogall: "Ridiculous." She says with a scoff. "I am here to tell you, you are a wizard, Mr. Alastair and I have a letter for you." She says as she hands me my Hogwarts acceptance letter.

Alastair: "You think that sounds any less ridiculous?" I ask as I lift my left brow which earns me a purse of her lips.

I then cut open the letter with my finger nail and take out the paper within and am greeted with the words that I have only seen in my dreams.

I feign astonishment as I read the letter which McGonogall notices. With a wave of her wand she transfigures my bed into a dog and back again. My eyes go wide, genuinely this time. This is the first time I've seen magic besides the weak and basic stuff I know. I quickly recover and a smile makes its way onto my mouth.

Alastair: "I understand." I say as I read over the materials again. "Where am I going to get all this stuff? Let alone the money for it?"

McGonogall: "Hogwarts has numerous programs for situations like this. This only applies until you're sixteen. Then you will be considered an a.d.u.l.t by wizard law and if you can't pay for your education or materials you will fall into debt." She explains as I listen carefully. "And as for where you'll get the stuff, I'll be taking you to a place where you can get all that stuff but before that, there are a few doc.u.ments that need your signature." She says as she pulls out two or three pages of contracts.

I look over the contracts but before I can get too far down McGonogall starts to speak again.

McGonogall: "I assure you, everything there is very standard and is the same for every student."

Alastair: "Forgive me for my non-wizard like habits but the non-magical world is very shrewd and dangerous and you can get in a lot of trouble if you don't read the fine print. I meant no offense and hope you'll indulge in my habit." I say. I know at this point that this is the dark Dumbledore world and that I have to be very careful or I'm going to be very screwed.

McGonogall: "Very well. But be quick about it. I have other kids to get to after you."

I nod my head and continue to read the contract. I come to the point where it names Dumbledore as my magical guardian and gives him full rights to my Gringotts account should I get one until I'm an a.d.u.l.t. This was a huge no-no for me since I planned on making a lot of money before I'm an a.d.u.l.t and I don't want Dumbles taking my stuff.

Alastair: "Excuse me, but I was wondering if we could remove this from the contract. Seeing how I don't have magical parents it shouldn't pose much of a problem. Other than that, everything else is agreeable."

McGonogall role her eyes subtly and lets out a slightly more noticeable sneer.

McGonogall: "Yes, that should be fine. It's an old contract and hasn't been updated in a while." The witch says as she waves her wand, adjusting the contract accordingly.

Alastair: "Of course. Some of our laws are like that as well." I say with a small smirk, intentionally making it noticeable before changing my expression to a smile.

I then sign the contract and they disappear into flames.

McGonogal: "Now we can get your supplies. Please grab my arm."

I do as she says and we apparate away.
